As July comes to an end, this week we have our Monthly Survey, where our dear JAFWAites can express their opinion on the various programs previewed and other suggested possibilities, utilising a scalar grading system.
And later, we have the monthly Member’s Prize Draw.
Before the survey during the Dinner Break, we have 3 items in the program:
- As per usual, we can’t be entirely certain we will have the next episode of “The Devil is a Part-timer” ready for this week, as it will only be expected to screen on Japanese TV this coming Thursday.
- This will be the last episode of “Dr Stone” for a while, as the rest of season 3 isn’t expected until October.
- We will have a preview episode before the Dinner Break, displacing “Ningen Fushin” this week. A domestic drama involving a cat.
And we continue on with the other wonderful anime we have in our program. Including the beginning the regular screening of the second season of the TV series “the Ancient Magus Bride”, The final episodes of the first season of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, and the return of “In/Spectre” that took a break for a preview item last week.
A reminder of our current issue – what do we call our new computer? Traditionally the JAFWA computer, with its small form factor is known as “chibi“, though for official purposes that only addressed JAFWA’s first dedicated computer. The one that broke down in July 2023 since being in service from 2016, was officially “Shin-chibi“. So what do we call this even smaller form factor computer? Lindsay has suggested “micro-chibi“, while I am partial to “chibi-chibi“. Please provide worthwhile suggestion for the official name (“Chibi McChibi Chibiface”, and variants thereof, is only worth getting hurt).

The Devil is a Part-Timer season 3 (Hataraku Maou-sama)
Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alciel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances. And now they have to look after a very special child.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”
Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.
This evening’s Episode: “With This Fist, A Miracle ” (hiatus)
Kohaku confirms the capsule is buried under the citadel’s largest tree, protected by another concrete shell, which she cannot break open without alerting guards. Senku, having deduced Byakuya would preserve the capsule using concrete, decides to send Kohaku a silent bomb. Given platinum’s rarity Senku realises Byakuya must have spent decades dredging rivers to collect it for him; confirmed by flashbacks that Byakuya continued obsessively collecting it until his death of extreme old age, while still dredging a river.
preview – The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today (Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu)
One day, a young woman named Saku took in a stray black cat who she later named Yukichi. However, as time went on, Yukichi grew large enough to be mistaken for a bear. Instead of being a threat though, Yukichi spends his time cooking food, doing laundry, and taking care of his owner after she comes home from hard days at work.
This evening’s Episode: “The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today”
The young employee Saku has adopted a cat and wonders how big it will get. She lives alone with her cat Yukichi, a feline as big as it is special. Yukichi is in fact extraordinarily intelligent, doing his utmost to take care of the house and of his mistress, who on the contrary is far from conscientious and has a habit of neglecting herself and her house. How does the office chief know about Yukichi?
Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)
Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.
Tonight’s OAV Episode: “Live and let live. II”
Adolf offers Chise a place at the College, admitting he hopes to study Chise as she is a Sleigh-Beggy who also possesses a Dragon-curse and Immortality-curse. Elias is uncertain but supports Chise’s desire to learn. College President Liza Quillyn grants Elias a temporary teaching position to stay close to her. Chise is assigned a roommate, Lucy Webster, who appears antisocial. On her way to meet Alice Chise encounters a silver haired student who abruptly faints.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 3
Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.
Tonight’s Episode: “Aren’t You Going to Become a Hashira? ” Swordsmith Village arc
Tanjiro realizes Genya still has his human conscience and instructs him to find a hidden fifth demon after the four beheaded clones fail to disintegrate. He rescues Nezuko from the rubble and instructs her to protect Genya, but the demons fully regenerate, forcing Tanjiro to stay behind and guide Genya through the forest with his sense of smell.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.
Tonight’s Episode “The Origin of Blind Obedience – 2” and “Accomplices” season 1 finale
Two new curses appear and draw Yuji and Nobara away from the battlefield, leaving Megumi to face off against a special grade curse but he finds himself at his power limit. Yuji and Nobara are infected by the cursed womb brothers’ Decay technique that will rot their bodies away in minutes. After the battles, Megumi he warns Yuji not to eat the finger but Sukuna eats it before either of them can react.
In/Spectre season 2 (Kyokou Suiri)
When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He’s surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.
This evening’s Episodes: “The Yuki-Onna’s Alibi”
The Yuki-Onna’s favourite human Masayuki is accused of murdering his ex-wife, and the circumstantial evidence is against him. He can’t call upon the Yuki-Onna as his alibi. But the Yuki-Onna can call upon Kotoko, the Goddess of Wisdom. But the Yuki-Onna really an alibi?
Golden Kamuy
Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.
Tonight’s Episode: “Perfect Mother” season 4
Tanigaki abandons his mission to kill Sugimoto and capture Asirpa. Instead he visits the heavily pregnant Inkarmat, planning to escape with her. He is caught by Tsukishima but Doctor Ienaga injects him with a sedative so that they can escape, however Tsukishima shoots her before he collapses.
Vinland Saga
Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.
Tonight’s Episode: “For the Love that Was Lost” season 2
Brodd, one of Canute’s men, is instructed by a hooded man to tell the depressed Olmar that he had been rejected for the king’s guard because of his inability to cut a pig. Thorgil arrives and tells Olmar that he must kill or die that day, spurring him to attack Brodd. When Olmar charges, the hooded man flips a coin into Brodd’s eye such that Olmar runs him through with his sword and Thorgil then gleefully massacres Brodd’s small band.
