Welcome to the month of April, where in Japan the Sakura is blossoming and the school year begins.
Did you miss us? We missed you. Let anime otaku rejoice and meet once again at the JAFWA screening! Though just before the JAFWA Saturday I anticipate some artistically-inclined people will book their tickets to appreciate Tokyo Alley 12 – Adventure at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Your normal JAFWA program returns this week, with a new regular series to replace the beloved “Spy x Family” (though the “Spy x Family” movie “Code White” comes to cinemas starting on April 18, both subbed and dubbed). Our new series “Frieren” shows what happens after the fantasy heroes save the world, from the viewpoint of a near immortal elf mage.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop (season 3)

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.

This evening’s Episode: “We Were Always Like This“

Natsumi breaks a planter playing ball with Renge’s older sister, Hikage, who is back from Tokyo. After some debate they try to find Natsumi’s mother to come clean, but learn from Komari she went to the candy shop. They then decide to hide the evidence so it doesn’t look as if they are only apologizing because they got caught.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (S?s? no Fur?ren)

Frieren

For ten years, elf mage Frieren traveled with Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf warrior as they quested to destroy the demon king. At the end of their journey, Frieren set out on her own, not quite understanding how differently time flows for her versus her human companions. Reunited after fifty years only to see them wither and die, Frieren begins to ponder the nature of connections at a time when it’s already too late to say goodbye.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Journey’s End“

After defeating the Demon Lord, hero Himmel, priest Heiter, dwarf warrior Eisen, and elf mage Frieren return to the royal capital. Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen are ready to settle down after their ten year adventure, but Frieren, whose lifespan lasts thousands of years, considers ten years barely noticeable and plans to travel and learn new spells. They watch the Era meteor shower together with Frieren promising to show them a better place to watch it during the next shower in fifty years.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today (Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu)

One day, a young woman named Saku took in a stray black cat who she later named Yukichi. However, as time went on, Yukichi grew large enough to be mistaken for a bear. Instead of being a threat though, Yukichi spends his time cooking food, doing laundry, and taking care of his owner after she comes home from hard days at work.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Masterful Cat Has A Lot Of Worries“

In the park Yukichi finds a box labelled “Please take me home”, and within is young Yume-chan , whose birthday he attended. And a kitten. What is a masterful cat to do? Then there is a warning of a pervert in the area assaulting women. What is a masterful cat to do? And then there is Rio from the Supermarket.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favorite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Suicide or Murder?“

Jinshi is still sulking from the shock after Maomao’s homecoming, though slowly recovering after knowing the truth from Gyokuyou, when a eunuch barged into his office reporting of Kounen, a high-ranking official, dying after a heavy drinking session during a party. Later, Guen asked Maomao to perform an autopsy on the body of a servant woman found drowned in the palace moat, but refused because it is taboo for her as an apothecary.

Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.

Tonight’s Episode: “Of two evils choose the less.“

Outside, Zaccheroni encounters a small, masked creature. Infuriated, Lisbeth allows the Grimoire to mutate her as well. The werewolf arrives to demand her children, resulting in Lizbeth destroying Alcyone, triggering a trap placed by Adam, summoning a copy of Adam (Philomena’s father).

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)

An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.

Tonight’s Episode: “What We Can Do Now“

Following Shaddiq’s arrest, Miorine has automatically been sworn in as the Benerit Group’s new president while Prospera is missing. However, Peil Technologies then publicly leaks the various crimes committed by the conglomerate, giving the Space Assembly League a casus belli to forcefully disband them. While Miorine struggles to respond, Prospera comes of out of hiding with the now mostly-completed Quiet Zero, a huge battle station equipped with an army of drones operated by Ericht that hack and destroy the League’s fleet.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2

Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were not always enemies. Long before they had what was supposed to be their final encounter during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, the pair were fellow students, rivals, and friends. In another world, they would have been the twin shining stars of Jujutsu Sorcery, but one fateful event destroyed any hope of that ever happening. Turn back the clock to witness the mission that drove them to curse one another beyond even death.

Tonight’s Episode: “Right and Wrong, part 2“

After Akari is taken to safety, Nobara re-enters the veil, not wanting to stay back while the others are still fighting. Nobara fights the Mahito Double, who is unable to use Idle Transfiguration on others like the main body. They discover that Nobara’s Resonance is actually the perfect counter to Mahito, damaging the soul of both the double and main body still fighting Yuji. Unfortunately it is childhood flashback time for her.

Undead Unluck

Fuuko Izumo is known as a woman cursed with “Unluck.” Fuuko brings misfortune to anyone who touches her and the scale is proportional to how long they had physical contact. She’s saved by Andy, a man who cannot die (“Undead”). He hopes to figure out a way to use Fuuko’s misfortune to finally bring him death. The unlikely pair team up to complete missions given to them by the Book of Revelations, but if they or any of the other negators in their union fail, the book can punish humanity.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Result“

A Negator known as Unseen is being held hostage by an unknown individual. Meanwhile, Apocalypse reveals the results of the Roundtable’s quests: he announces they have cleared five of them. As such, they are granted multiple rewards, most notably the ability to add an eleventh seat and the location of Unrepair. However, because they failed the sixth quest, the UMA Galaxy is created as a penalty.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!)

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Dancing Puppet“

Cid sits beside Princess Iris and Beatrix to watch Claire’s next match. Perv continues drugging the King, hoping Rose will try to save him. He also plans to have the king publicly assassinate Iris and Princess Alexia’s father, the King of Midgar, to cause war. Claire wins her match and furiously searches for Cid, who is again absent from the audience. Iris duels Mundane.

Goblin Slayer season 2

In a world of fantasy, adventurers come far and wide to join the Guild, in order to complete contracts for whatever jobs are available. An inexperienced priestess joins her first adventuring party, but comes into danger after her first adventurer contract involving goblins goes wrong. After the rest of her party is wiped out, she is saved by a man known as Goblin Slayer, an adventurer whose only purpose is the eradication of goblins with extreme prejudice. And when rumours of his feats begin to circulate, there’s no telling who might come calling next.

Tonight’s Episode: “City Adventure” season 2

King’s sister, Princess, yearns to be an adventurer. Delivering Sword Maiden to the temple, everyone separates to carry out various tasks. Dwarf Shaman notices Goblin Slayer is troubled; he admits lately he has been having fun and feels guilty he hasn’t been killing goblins. Lizard Priest reassures him that no one can focus on one goal indefinitely without a break. Priestess visits a bathhouse with High Elf Archer. Princess encounters Priestess in the baths while hiding her identity.
