April continues, where in Japan the Sakura is blossoming and the school year begins.
Remember that this is the last month we will be operating in Summer hours. Winter hours is coming in May.
We hope that everybody who went to the cinemas enjoyed the “Spy x Family” movie “Code White” after it started on Thursday April 18. As a true JAFWAite you will enjoy it subbed rather than dubbed.

Our JAFWA program bids farewell to a couple of regular items this week, yet also finds room for a couple of preview items this week. (you will have to remain on tenterhooks regarding “Jujitsu Kaisen” a little longer)
“Ancient Magus Bride” come to the end of its second season, while “The Eminence in Shadow” has come to the end of its first season (yes, apparently they have made a 2nd anime season).
For the first preview, in a swords and sorcery setting a Princess encounters advanced interrogation techniques. We put this after the Dinner Break, but do hope you have a strong stomach.
For the second preview, we have mysterious tales of urban myths that can’t possibly be real.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop (season 3)

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.

This evening’s Episode: “I Turned Into Santa to Deliver Tomatoes“

Renge strolls around giving the tomatoes planted in episode 2 as a ‘Summer Christmas’ gift. She helps Shiori, the daughter of the resident police officer, who is lost and calls Renge onee-chan (big sister), much to her pleasure. Renge puts toy-handcuffs, she bought at the candy store with her New-Year’s money, on Kaede but they can’t find the key. Later Renge plays at being police officers with Shiori and decide to arrest Hikage and Natsumi. When Shiori falls asleep, Renge takes her role as a big sister very seriously.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End (Sousou no Furiiren)

For ten years, elf mage Frieren traveled with Himmel the hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf warrior as they quested to destroy the demon king. At the end of their journey, Frieren set out on her own, not quite understanding how differently time flows for her versus her human companions. Reunited after fifty years only to see them wither and die, Frieren begins to ponder the nature of connections at a time when it’s already too late to say goodbye.

This Evening’s Episode: “It Didn’t Have to Be Magic…“

Frieren spends four years tutoring Fern while translating an ancient grimoire concerning immortality. Heiter becomes bed-ridden and Fern trains nonstop, wanting Heiter to see her become a mage. Frieren’s translation reveals nothing about life extension, which Heiter already knew; it was just an excuse to have Frieren train Fern. Fern joins Frieren on her travels but is confused by the effort Frieren puts into learning spells, even silly ones. In a certain village they find a statue of Himmel that Frieren is compelled to decorate with Blue Moon Weed, a flower from Himmel’s village.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today (Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu)

One day, a young woman named Saku took in a stray black cat who she later named Yukichi. However, as time went on, Yukichi grew large enough to be mistaken for a bear. Instead of being a threat though, Yukichi spends his time cooking food, doing laundry, and taking care of his owner after she comes home from hard days at work.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Masterful Cat Is Popular“

Saku is too practised at heavy drinking, but even she can’t hide the effects all the time. But Yukichi is up to the task, so much that the office is amazed. Yukichi’s work is never ending, so why is he volunteering around the neighbourhood? Yukichi becomes ever more popular. Too popular with the youngster?

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favorite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Honey“

Rumors circulate around the rear palace about the drowned servant at the Garnet Pavilion, who is accused of poisoning Concubine Lishu’s food. Additional gossip suggests that Concubine Ah-Duo may lose her title to a younger concubine. Jinshi then sends Maomao to assist Ah-Duo without any specific instructions. After investigating, Maomao reports back to him, linking the events to Fengming’s possible ability to send coded messages using colored text plates.

preview – ‘Tis Time for “Torture,” Princess (“Hime-sama Goumon mo Jikan desu”)

In an ongoing battle between the humanity’s Imperial Army and the demonic Hell-hordes, the princess from the army has been captured along with her holy sword Ex. Since regular torture is prohibited by the prisoner of war treaty between the two parties, the grand inquisitor, Torture Tortura, employs unusual “torture” (in air quotes) techniques.

Tonight’s Episode: “Episode 1“

Princess, and her intelligent weapon Excalibur (Ex) are captured and imprisoned together in a cell. Tortura and Damura goad the princess with freshly-baked toast. Ex proudly goes on a lengthy diatribe about how she would never confess. After some dawdling, the princess confesses, and receives the toast.

Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.

Tonight’s Episode: “The show must go on. I” (finale)

Philomena collapses as Lizbeth enters her mind trying to take her over. No longer the frightened child she was Philomena uses Chise’s Thurisaz rune to force Lizbeth out, completes the Grimoire incantation and summons another stronger Goddess who drags the partial goddess away.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)

An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Woven Path“

As Prospera continues destroying Space Assembly League forces using Quiet Zero, Miorine falls into a depression. Earth House, joined by Jeturk House member Felsi and Duelling Committee member Rouji, arrive at the Benerit Group Headquarters to retrieve the Calibarn. Lauda tries to assassinate Miorine using the Gundam Schwarzette, which his father secretly developed.

preview – Mysterious Disappearances (“Kaii to Otome to Kamikakushi”)

Sumireko Ogawa is a bookstore clerk who dreamed of writing novels in her youth. She teams up with her coworker, Ren Adashino, who is hiding secrets of his own, to investigate supernatural phenomena happening in the city.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Cursed Book, the Maiden, and the Birthday“

Two bookstore workers, the over-endowed and aspirational-author Sumireko and the young Ren, are bored at work and begin discussing the latest urban myth. But then a mysterious book and youthening afflicts Sumireko so it is up to Ren with his unusual abilities to rescue her. But does Sumireko want to be rescued?

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!)

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Advent of the Demon” (finale)

Alpha meets Rose and offers her membership in Shadow Garden, which Rose accepts. Amidst Beatrix’ and Shadow’s duel, Princess Iris joins the former in combat against him. After a fight that comes to span much of the city, Shadow again brandishes his atomic, city-obliterating attack. With the Eminence revealed to the world, Shadow Garden begins preparations to support Cid further, hoping he will soon take a more active role in running their organization.

Goblin Slayer season 2

In a world of fantasy, adventurers come far and wide to join the Guild, in order to complete contracts for whatever jobs are available. An inexperienced priestess joins her first adventuring party, but comes into danger after her first adventurer contract involving goblins goes wrong. After the rest of her party is wiped out, she is saved by a man known as Goblin Slayer, an adventurer whose only purpose is the eradication of goblins with extreme prejudice. And when rumours of his feats begin to circulate, there’s no telling who might come calling next.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Princess’s Ordeal” season 2

King sends Hero to investigate Holy Mount. Noble Fencer provides Goblin Slayer with horses while Sword Maiden provides a map of the closest dungeon and a ribbon that acts as the key. She also warns them to avoid going below level 4 or their deaths are unavoidable. A goblin shaman has evolved into a goblin priest and is planning to sacrifice Princess in a blood ritual.
