JAFWA operating in Winter hours! Program starts at 4:15PM!

Come one, come all! Nominations are still open for the upcoming JAFWA elections for next week! Bring forth your vision of JAFWA and get people to vote for you. We (the current committee) just need a written nomination form indicating your intention to nominate yourself, along with your membership number.

We thank Sally for for stepping up and giving us a fish and chip run last session. Any body else going to selflessly volunteer for a food run this week?

This week there will be several exciting changes to JAFWA‘s regular program, as we have 4 time-slots opening up this week. Though one of them may be a preview item, as the 3rd season of “Devil is a Part-timer” has not yet screened in Japan (sorry to all those people who voted for it in the survey). Otherwise we will have the next season of a couple of favourites, and a slightly surprising choice starting in the program this week. Thanks to everyone who filled in the Survey at the end of June.

Next week is the AGM and JAFWA elections, with election nominations finishing this week. Isn’t it time you stepped up and participated? Consider nominating yourself this month, if you are a fully signed up JAFWA members, for the last 3 months.

The Devil is a Part-Timer season 3 (Hataraku Maou-sama)

Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alsiel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances. And now they have to look after a very special child.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.

This evening’s Episode: “The Trump Card Aboard the Science Vessel ”

5 years previously Amaryllis attempted to leave the island with her friends, but they were caught by guards Moz and Kirisame, who petrified and threw them into the ocean. Amaryllis avoided the weapons light by inches. Amaryllis has been plotting all these years to marry the Master and steal the weapon. Senlu thinks he can improved the chances, but first needs the mobile lab from the petrified and captured ship. Miraculously, both Ginro and Suika have survived.

Ningen Fushin – aka Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai o Sukuu You Desu)

Veteran adventurer Nick’s life is falling apart. Despite all the knowledge and expertise he’s devoted to his adventuring party, his respected leader kicked him out, his girlfriend dumped him, and his teammates shamelessly accused him of embezzlement. Tired, heartbroken, and looking for a drink, Nick chances upon a few kindred spirits who are jaded as he is. Together, these disillusioned adventurers form an unstoppable team out to save their bleak, depressing world.

This evening’s Episode: “Disillusioned Adventurers”

In Labyrinth City adventurer Nick is abruptly kicked from his team by his mentor Argus, followed by his girlfriend Claudine dumping him. Disillusioned Nick develops an otaku lifestyle around teen idol Agate. To fund this lifestyle Nick returns to adventuring but requires a new team. By chance at an inn he shares a table with sorceress Tiana, ex-priest Zem and Dragon-girl Curran, all disillusioned over something.

Ancient Magus Bride – “The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Blue Storm” (Mahou Tsukai no Yome: Nishi no Shounen to Seiran no Kishi)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, there are further adventures bfore she can go to sorcerer’s college.

Tonight’s OAV Episode: “The Boy From the West and the Knight of the Mountain Haze: Part 1”

During a heavy storm, lightning strikes an ancient stone, chipping two pieces off of it. In response, the Wild Hunt appears, but with their leader missing, they begin roaming the forest randomly, much to Spriggan’s concern. Meanwhile, Chise prepares to attend the College, but suddenly begins to feel ill. Elsewhere, a young boy named Gabriel has recently moved into the countryside with his parents due to his illness. While exploring the forest, he comes across the stone and picks up one of the broken off pieces and takes it home.

Kaina of Great Snow Sea (Ooyuki umi no Kaina )

In a world where land is being swallowed by the encroaching Great Snow Sea, humanity ekes out a harsh life above the Tenmaku that stretches from the roots to the tops of giant Orbital Trees. The story centers around Kaina, a boy who lives above the Tenmaku, and Liliha, the princess of the small country Atland in the Great Snow Sea.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Builder”

The Builder begins to advance towards Atland, completely impervious to the defenders’ attacks. Orinoga engages in a duel with Amelothee despite being outmatched. Kaina, Ririha, and Yaona reach the castle with the map, only to find out the king has moved to the frontline at the harbor. Kaina and Yaona are separated from Ririha when the Builder begins hurling artillery into the city.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 3

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Sword from Over 300 Years Ago ” Swordsmith Village arc

To Tanjiro’s and Kotetsu’s disappointment, the sword is tarnished. Hotaru suddenly arrives, now extremely muscular from solitary training to be able to forge a better sword for Tanjiro. Intending to restore the ancient sword, he gives Tanjiro a spare in the meantime. Unbeknownst to all, top ranked demons Gyokko and Hantengu have infiltrated the Swordsmith Village, rady to attack.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episode “Nonstandard”

Aoi reveals his own secret technique: Boogie Woogie, the ability to swap any two people or objects with Cursed Energy, and uses it in tandem with Yuji’s Black Flash to beat up Hanami. Hanami prepares to unleash her own Domain Expansion when Gojo dispells the veil over the battlefield.

In/Spectre season 2 (Kyokou Suiri)

When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He’s surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.

This evening’s Episodes: “That God’s Name Is”

A yokai has a problem his discussing with his friends – his apartment block is being haunted. Perhaps the Goddess of Wisdom can resolve the situation. If only she didn’t have such a terrifying boyfriend she drags around. From Kotoko’s point of view, this is the perfect chance to get Kuro into a more convenient apartment. Then perhaps her salacious desires may come true.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Fleeing Karafuto” season 4

Tsurumi’s destroyer reaches the port of Karafuto where he approaches Asirpa’s group and offers to protect her. He proposes to send Sugimoto and Shiraishi on the morning ferry to Wakkanai but Asirpa mistrusts his motives. Taking the initiative, Asirpa fires a volley of arrows into the air, causing everyone to scatter and enabling her to flee with Sugimoto.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Oath” season 2

After a drawn-out fight with the retainers over the damaged crop, Einar is still standing, and the retainers decide to withdraw. Thorfinn is unconscious but finds himself hanging by his fingertips above a blood-soaked eternal battlefield where he is confronted by images from his violent past and the countless people he has killed.
