JAFWA operating in Winter hours! Program starts at 4:15PM!

Come one, come all! Nominations have opened for the upcoming JAFWA elections. Bring forth your vision of JAFWA and get people to vote for you. We (the current committee) just need a written nomination form indicating your intention to nominate yourself, along with your membership number.

We thank David for giving us a Pizza Run last week. Would anyone want to organise a fish and chip run this week?

This week several of JAFWA‘s regular programs are coming to their final episode (“Bocchi the Rock”, second season of “Tenchi Muyou”, and the first season of “Tokyo Revengers”), meaning this week’s Monthly Survey will greatly aide in deciding what new regular series we will be starting in July we will be starting several new series (to be decided, in part, with next week’s survey).
Indeed, this week we have our Monthly Survey, where our dear JAFWAites can express their opinion on the various programs previewed and other suggested possibilities, utilising a scalar grading system.
And later, we have the monthly Member’s Prize Draw.
And believe it or not, before that we have managed to put in another preview episode this week, that of “My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999” (aka “Yamada to Lv999 no Koi o Suru”), that explores the issues and conflicts between being a dedicated gamer and looking for love.

And then we will take a break until July, when it is time for the AGM and JAFWA elections, with nominations opening in June. Isn’t it time you stepped up and participated? Consider nominating yourself this month, if you are a fully signed up JAFWA members, for the last 3 months.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.

This evening’s Episode: “Ray of Despair, Ray of Hope ”

The crew send Senku, Soyuz, Kohaku and Gen to find the islanders. Ryusui finds Suika stowed away on the ship. Ukyo and Ginro find statues underwater and realise they couldn’t be from the petrification event 3700 years ago since the island was uninhabited before the astronauts arrived, so these statues were petrified much later. Losing radio contact Soyuz and Gen find everyone on board petrified into statues.

Bocchi the Rock

Extremely anxious and socially awkward Hitori Gotou longs to become a rock musician in spite of her struggles, whilst fulfilling her desires to one day make friends. She is even given a chance to do so after she is taken in by Nijika Ijichi to become a member of the newly formed Kessoku Band.

This evening’s Episode: “Morning Light Falls on You” finale

During the concert, Bocchi’s guitar sounds out of tune and one of the strings even snaps before her solo, but she manages to pull through thanks to Ikuyo’s improvising plus using one of Hiroi’s glass sake containers as a makeshift bottleneck slide. After the concert, Bocchi’s father reveals he secretly monetized Bocchi’s “guitarhero” account and gives her the money from the channel’s ad revenue, telling her to buy a new guitar with it.

preview – My Love Story With Yamada-kun at Lv999 (Yamada to Lv999 no Koi o Suru)

Akane Kinoshita is a female university student who just got dumped by her boyfriend after he cheated on her with a woman he met in an online game. Akane is left with just her game character in the online game Forest of Savior (FOS) that she started to share her boyfriend’s interests. While she was blowing off steam in the game’s hunting ground, she happened upon “Yamada” who was from the same guild as her. She started complaining about her failed relationship only to be met with a cold “I’m not interested”. This is her fated meeting with Akito Yamada.

This evening’s Episode: “This is why I Can’t Stand Gamer Guys!”

Akane has tried to share her boyfriend’s interests in gaming, but he dumps her anyway. Still the game gives her a chance to take out some frustration. Though her uncaring guild-mate Yamada does not help. But an attempt to have revenge on her ex-boyfriend leads to a chance meeting with a hot guy – who turns out to be Yamada from the game. Revenge is bitter. But the next morning?

retro item – Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki second series

Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko, from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.

Tonight’s episode: “Here Comes Jurai ” finale

Tenchi’s life is disrupted once again when some visitors from Jurai arrive. Funaho, Tenchi’s Juraian great-grandmother, and her sister Misaki, who is also Ayeka and Sasami’s mother, are paying a visit to Earth. Funaho has come to see her son Yosho, and to make an interesting offer to Washu. Soon after, Misaki and Funaho’s husband, King Azusa of Jurai, arrives and tells Ayeka that she must marry the man he has chosen already, Seiryo. The only way Ayeka can be saved from this fate is for Tenchi to beat him in a duel!

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 3

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Yoriichi Type Zero ” Swordsmith Village arc

While eavesdropping, Tanjiro watches as Muichiro threatens the young swordsmith he was arguing with. He tries to defend him but the indifferent Hashira knocks him out for interfering. After waking up, the boy, named Kotetsu, explains that the “man” he saw is actually an advanced mechanical training doll, built after a swordsman who lived over 300 years ago.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episode “Black Flash”

Hanami, the Special Grade Cursed Spirit, shrugs off attacks from Toge, Megumi, Noritoshi, and Maki. Just as she is about to strangle Maki to death, Yuji and Aoi jump in to fight Hanami while Panda and Momo escort their wounded friends to safety. Yuji then reveals the Black Flash technique he learned from Aoi as Hanami unleashes her second arm to fight them both.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Cry baby” season 1 finale

Mikey announces that the Tokyo Manji Gang and Valhalla will merge, with Hanma as the captain of the newly created sixth division. Kisaki is celebrated as their saviour, and Chifuyu nominates Takemichi to become the first division captain. Takemichi returns to the present and finds himself as a high-level executive member in the criminal Toman gang.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sweet Lies” season 4

Tsurumi realizes that Anji Toni was pretending to be a masseur while spying on their movements. Tsurumi suspects that Ariko is working for Hijikata as the skin he returned with was not Toni’s, but that of Sekiya. Sugimoto’s group leaves their dog sled and Cikapasi with Enonoka and Henke, and continue on to Oodomari. Later, a drunken Shiraishi tells Sugimoto that Asirpa has grown while in Karafuto and is no longer a little girl, and she may want to lead the Ainu.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “An Empty Man” season 2

Thorfinn’s terrifying nightmares of his violent past still wake him, but he has touble recalling what occurred in them. Thorfinn tells Einar about his relationship with Askeladd, although without hate and the need for revenge, he feels empty. As winter approaches, Sverkel teaches them to fish and prompts Thorfinn’s thoughts about whether he can change. Meanwhile, some retainers are envious of the success of Einar and Thorfinn’s crop, especially for slaves. One day when they return home, Einar and Thorfinn discover their crop has been uprooted and Einar blames the retainers.
