JAFWA operating in Winter hours! Program starts at 4:15PM!

Hooray, Hooray, Hooray!
Nominations have opened for the upcoming JAFWA elections. Bring forth your vision of JAFWA and get people to vote for you. We (the current committee) just need a written nomination form indicating your intention to nominate yourself, along with your membership number.

In addition to a tasty helping of anime this week, it looks like we are also going to have a Pizza Run!
Former committee member David Fisher has acquired a voucher for reduced-price pizza, and is intending to share with his fellow JAFWAites, though he can only accept cash only.
For all I know, he may be nominating for the election and trying to buy your vote with easy to afford Pizza. Or not. But who can ignore pizza?

Several of JAFWA‘s regular programs are coming to their final episode (for instance “Do It Yourself” ends this week), meaning in July we will be starting several new series (to be decided, in part, with next week’s survey).
However, let us not wait that long. This week we jump July and start regularly screening the third season of “Demon Slayer” Yay!
And to stop us being too complacent, we shake up our anime program this week with a preview episode of “Jigokuraku” (aka “Hell’s Paradise”), as condemned criminals, accompanied by their bespoke executioners, travel to a lethally dangerous isle in search of the elixir of life for the shogun.

And then in July it will be time for the AGM and JAFWA elections, with nominations opening in June. Isn’t it time you stepped up and participated? Consider nominating yourself this month, if you are a fully signed up JAFWA members, for the last 3 months.

Do It Yourself (Yofukashi no Uta)

Serufu Yua (pronounced “yourself”) is a laid back first year high-school student, very accident-prone and is known for having a perfect attendance record at the nurse’s office. She fails to get into Yuyu Girls’ Vocational High School for technology with her best friend Miku Suride, instead getting into the lower class Gatagata Girls’ High School. But there is a student club that may catch her attention.

This evening’s Episodes: “‘DIY’ Means Friendship, Always and Forever!” finale

After the treehouse is finally completed, the girls hold a party where they give farewell gifts to Jobko, who is due to return to America, leaving the club needing to attract two potential recruits. Jobko leaves as Summer Break begins, while Miku/Purin and Serufu reconcile.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.

This evening’s Episode: “Treasure Box ”

Senku reveals the Soyuz, the birthplace of the Hundred Tales, will help produce enough revival fluid for the whole planet. Senku had noticed a lot of villagers were named after ores (Magma, Chrome, Kohaku, Kin) and deduced from one of the Tales that Byakuya left a stash of valuable ores in the Soyuz, including platinum, a catalyst that can produce the nitric acid that gives the revival fluid its power. One of the crew, No-Name, abruptly reveals he is not a native of Ishigami village.

Bocchi the Rock

Extremely anxious and socially awkward Hitori Gotou longs to become a rock musician in spite of her struggles, whilst fulfilling her desires to one day make friends. She is even given a chance to do so after she is taken in by Nijika Ijichi to become a member of the newly formed Kessoku Band.

This evening’s Episode: “Duodecimal Sunset”

During the first day of the cultural festival, Bocchi hides in a secluded corner of the school, and realizes that she hasn’t updated her “guitarhero” video account in a while, fearing her online fans will leave her with nothing if she doesn’t post soon. Bocchi’s bandmates manage to find her, and the four enjoy touring the school before taking her back to her class, as she was trying to stall to escape her maid cafe duties.

retro item – Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki second series

Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko, from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.

Tonight’s episode: “Zero Ryoko ”

Zero fails in her mission to capture Washu and returns to Dr. Clay. Tenchi, Ayeka, and Washu pursue her to locate and rescue the real Ryoko. When Washu confronts Dr. Clay, she reveals that she and Clay were once contenders for the director’s chair at the Science Academy, but Clay was cast out for misusing his scientific talents.

Kaina of Great Snow Sea (Ooyuki umi no Kaina )

In a world where land is being swallowed by the encroaching Great Snow Sea, humanity ekes out a harsh life above the Tenmaku that stretches from the roots to the tops of giant Orbital Trees. The story centers around Kaina, a boy who lives above the Tenmaku, and Liliha, the princess of the small country Atland in the Great Snow Sea.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Insignia of an Ancient Castle”

As Valghia continues to advance on Atland, Kaina, Ririha, and Yaona travel to the underground ruins to find the map. In Valghia, the Brotherhood begin spreading word about the existence of the Great Orbital Spire Tree, which begins to increase war weariness among the Valghian population. The Valghian fleet then begins their attack on Atland, with both sides trading artillery fire. Meanwhile, Kaina is able to decipher an ancient tapestry and discovers it is indeed a map to the Great Orbital Spire Tree. Yhe Admiral activates his secret weapon, an ancient war machine called the Builder.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 3

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Someone’s Dream ” Swordsmith Village arc

After their battle with Gyutaro and Daki, the Upper Rank Six siblings, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko are found by the Kakushi and brought in for healing. In the Infinity Castle, Muzan Kibutsuji summons the remaining five Upper Rank demons and admonishes them for their failure to kill the Ubuyashiki family and find the Blue Spider Lily. When his swordsmith Hotaru Haganezuka refuses to forge him a new sword, Tanjiro is told to meet him at the Swordsmith Village to discuss the matter in person.

preview – Hell’s Paradise (Jigoraku)

Gabimaru the Hollow is one of the most vicious assassins ever to come out of the ninja village of Iwagakure. He’s ruthlessly efficient, but a betrayal results in him being handed a death sentence. He has only one hope—in order to earn his freedom, he must travel to a long-hidden island and recover an elixir that will make the shogun immortal. Failure is not an option. On this island, heaven and hell are just a hair’s breadth away.

This evening’s Episode: “The Death Row Convict and the Executioner”

A shinobi named Gabimaru foils attempted executions by beheading and burning and curses his inability to die. He explains to his interrogator that he underwent Iwagakure village shinobi training such that he developed a superhuman body and became an efficient killer. His interrogator who is revealed to be Yamada Asaemon Sagiri, a Yamada clan sword-tester and executioner. Sagiri abruptly offers a full pardon and government protection for himself and his wife in exchange for fulfilling a death-defying mission. He must go to Shinsenkyo, a legendary land rumored to hold the Elixir of Immortality and retrieve the elixir in competition with other death row criminals.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “End of war”

Draken takes Takemichi to a brothel, where he was raised, and thanks for stopping Mikey from killing Kazutora. Later, Takemichi, Hinata, and Naoto believe Emma and Mikey are dating but later learn from Draken that the two are half-siblings. Mitsuya creates Takemichi’s gang uniform in gratitude, and Takemichi later attends the Tokyo Manji Gang’s meeting as a formal member. Mikey appears with both Hanma and Chifuyu to make an important announcement.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Iron Fist Ketil” season 2

As time passes, Einars friendship with Arnheid grows as Einar, Thorfinn’s first wheat crop begins to sprout, and they begin growing beards. Einar entreats Thorfinn to pray with him for a successful harvest. Ketil returns to the farm with his oldest son Thorgil who refers to his father as “Iron Fist Ketil” in an attempt to impress Olmar with tales of his father’s battlefield exploits.
