Below is the program for the evening of Saturday October 12^th, 2019.

It looks like we have survived MadFest for another year and now we entice you with JAFWA’s little program.
This week we have finally managed to find a timeslot to preview a little series that has a certain appeal. Unfortunately, like many anime series, this one has added eye-catch to the first episode, in the form excess blood spill. Hope no-one minds too much.

On December 14^th we will have our end of year marathon screening, before we take a break until January, and your Suggestions are welcome. The JAFWA committee has already scheduled room for “Akira”, and we have received a request for the movie “Millenium Actress”, as well as the “Girls und Panzer” movie, and something “Gundam”. Any other requests/suggestions?
Be aware, we also intend to run an auction on behalf of our members. Tell us what you want us to auction of yours, preferably well in advance, so we can schedule enough time into the program, as well as inform people so that they can bring plenty of money to bid. Already, a couple of expensive Attack on Titan figures have been proffered.

A reminder that JAFWA member Dale is offering to do a bulk import order of Japanese calendars, in order to reduce shipping costs. The 2020 calendars have passed their pre-order discount period, and Dale can get titles as seen here or here, possibly with more to come as the publishing companies confirm their schedules. Is anyone interested in ordering Japanese calendars via Dale?

Fruits Basket (2019 remake)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “I’ve Been Fooling Myself”

Tohru announces that the renovations at her grandfather’s house have been completed, and that she would be moving back in the next day. Her decision leaves the Sohmas seemingly in agreement that her stay with them was only a temporary circumstance. But will the Sohma’s accept this? And Tohru’s relatives also have opinions on her activities…

Isekai Quartet

One day, a magic button suddenly appears. The protagonists in KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil all press the button and move to a parallel world — another brand new isekai — where a new story featuring high school life begins.

This evening’s Episodes: “Explosion! Talent Show ” and “Decision! Class Rep ”

Roswaal-sensei begins the class talent show by drawing names and draws assistant teacher Erich first. Erich is confused as to why he must participate but Roswaal encourages him to set an example. After his embarrassing example, the rest of the class do their things, with Megumin and her single-minded obsession last.
The survivors then need to select a Class Rep and Vice Rep, and determine who will be on which committees. The various groups are rather frightening…

Kanata no Astra (Astra: Lost in Space)

In the year 2063, travelling through space has become commonplace. Eight students from Caird High School, along with one child, set out for a school camp on a nearby planet. However, the students are then mysteriously transported 5,000 light years away from home, with no way to call for help. Aboard an abandoned spaceship they call the Astra, these nine students slowly try to make their way back and figure out why they were transported in the first place.

This evening’s Episode: “Paradise ”

After the group recovers, they credit Yunhua’s singing for helping keep them alive, and find out that she is the daughter of the famous singer Lucy Lum. To symbolize her growth, Yunhua has her hair cut short. They then manage to find a stable food source and leave Shummoor. Meanwhile, back home, the authorities have all but given up on finding the missing students after an exhaustive search on McPa. Back in space, the group has landed on the oceanic world of Arispade, which they consider a paradise.

Mob Psycho 100

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ochimusha -Psychic Powers and Me- ”

After recognizing Mob’s psychic abilities, Teru attempts to force him into a psychic duel by attacking him, but Mob refuses despite increasingly brutal attacks because of his ideals to never use psychic powers on a human person. The spirit Dimple attempts to defend Mob, but Teru quickly exorcises him.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Y?sha no Nariagari)

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a parallel world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers. As he little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work hard to fulfill their mission as saviors of the world, while unraveling its deepest secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Four Cardinal Heroes ”

Melty recognizes Pope Balmus wields an ancient weapon which replicates all the Four Cardinal weapons, supposedly lost long ago. Naofumi and Motoyasu are unable to breach the weapon’s defenses as it is powered by hundreds of Balmus’ loyalists. Fortunately reinforcements are coming, though Naofumi objects to the hero’s creed.

Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland)

Emma is an 11-year-old orphan living in Grace Field House, a small orphanage housing her and her 37 siblings. Life had never been better; with food that tasted gourmet, plush beds, snow-white uniforms, and the love of their “Mother” (the caretaker) Isabella, as well the litany of daily exams that Emma always aced with her two best friends Ray and Norman. The orphans are basically allowed to do whatever they want, except to venture out of the compounds or the gate that connects the house to the outside world. Then she finds out the truth. Determined to break out of Grace Field House, Norman and Emma partner up with Ray to peel away at the façade of the farm and find a way to escape with all their other siblings.

Tonight’s Episode: “130146 ”

Norman tells the conspirators the entire farm is encircled by a deep channel and the only way to leave is through the gate, which leads to the demon’s headquarters. Norman returns the device to break the trackers and that night, Norman says goodbye to everyone in the House. Emma hugs Norman in a last effort to get him to use the device to break the trackers and escape before he is “harvested”.

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Cruelty ”

Tanjiro Kamado is the oldest son of a family of seven that lives on the mountain. Apart from selling coal, he also uses his keen sense of smell and strength to help others. One night, he is on his way back home when Saboru, an old man that lives halfway up the mountain, invites Tanjiro to spend the night with him, warning that man-eating demons roam the forest at night. When Tanjiro returns home the following morning, he finds his entire family slaughtered, except for his bloodied younger sister Nezuko.

Dororo

From Osamu Tezuka’s beloved manga. During the 1470s after the Wars of Onin and Bunmei in the Noto Peninsula of the Hokuriku District, Hyakkimaru, who lacks as much as 48 body parts, obtains a fake body and eliminates 48 monsters that were made from his body to retrieve his missing body parts, and regain his humanity.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Story of Shiranui ”

Dororo denies knowledge of a map, but Itachi and his men take her with them, believing she has memorized it. They travel for days, following Ojiya’s half of the map which Itachi discovered after he dug up her body. They arrive at Cape Hakkotsu where the treasure is located, but can’t reach it without a boat. Shiranui, a one-armed youth who offers to take them across, but he has his own dark secrets. Elsewhere, as Hyakkimaru struggles to walk, he passes a monk who tells him of a man nearby who can give him a new leg, Jukai.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 3 part 2

Eren and his companions in the 104th are assigned to the newly-formed Levi Squad, whose assignment is to keep Eren and Historia safe given Eren’s newly-discovered power and Historia’s knowledge and pedigree. Levi and Erwin have good reason to be concerned, because the priest of the Church that Hange had hidden away was found tortured to death, making it clear that the Military Police are involved with the cover-up. Things get more harrowing when the MPs make a move on Erwin and the Levi Squad narrowly avoids capture.

Tonight’s Episode: “Midnight Sun ”

Eren finds himself alone with Armin’s burnt body and the unconscious Bertholdt. His reverie is interrupted by the Cart Titan carrying Zeke, who asserts that Eren was lied to by his father. Mikasa fetch the Titan serum from Levi so they can transfer the Armored Titan power to one of their own. The choice is between the steamed Armin and the mortally wounded Erwin.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Ougen no Kaze (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Golden Wind)

Set in 2001, two years after the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Koichi Hirose is sent to Italy and tasked by Jotaro Kujo to search for Giorno Giovanna, an aspiring mafia gangster who is a son of Dio Brando. But as Dio possessed the body of Jonathan Joestar at time of his conception, Giorno is technically a Joestar and takes more after them than the father he never knew. The series follows Giorno as he joins the mafia organization Passione, moving up through its ranks with the intention of becoming its boss to improve life in Italy.

Tonight’s Episode: “Green Day and Oasis, Part 2 ”

While making light of Secco’s poor verbal skills, Bucciarati is suddenly overwhelmed by the punches of Secco, who rebounds his fists from the ground to increase his speed and power. Giorno and Mista climb the building holding Cioccolata’s helicopter, but when Mista fires Sex Pistols inside, they cannot find Cioccolata and instead they and Mista are wounded.
