Screening

Below is the program for the afternoon and evening of Saturday December 16^th, 2017.

It is our end of year marathon, from 1PM till close to 11 PM, before we go on break until January 13^th to recharge our batteries. And enjoy the assorted Solstice Celebrations and ring in the New Year.

We have wittled down all the various suggestions received for this night, and hopefully created a program that will leave you sufficiently sated until JAFWA returns in January. We will be doing a pizza run, having a quiz, giving away prizes and watching some good anime. Though unfortunately there was not enough demand for a platter of sushi.

Synopsis

Gabriel Dropout

Upon passing a school in heaven, graduating angels are sent down to Earth, where they must learn about humans and guide them towards the correct path in order to become true angels. However, Gabriel White Tenma, the top angel in her class, becomes addicted to video games upon arriving on Earth and turns into a complete slob as a result. The story follows Gabriel, along with other angels and demons who have descended to Earth, as they attend high school.

This afternoon’s Episode: “Christmas and New Year’s Eve Surprise”

Vignette tries to host a peaceful Christmas party without the devil Satanichia realising the holiday’s connections with the birth of Jesus Christ. Later on New Year’s Eve, the girls make a visit to the shrine, where Gabriel gets drunk on amazake (sweet sake). Afterwards, as the girls make home visits to Heaven and Hell respectively, though Gabriel does not ant to leave her entertainment devices behind.

3rd Girls Fighter Wing

During the anime Shirobako which followed an anime company’s efforts to produce anime, we saw them work on two different series. The seond was called “The Third Aerial Girls Squad“, and many of JAFWA’s audience always wwondered what this fictitious anime was like. Wonder no more!

This afternoon’s Episode: “The Third Aerial Girls Squad”

The aliens have invaded, and are slowly terraforming Earth into something more suitable. Humans try to defend, but our most advanced, smart weapons were hacked and possessed by the enemy. Thus humanity’s survivors end up fighting back with less advanced fighter planes salvaged from museums. Follow the adventures of “Ice Doll” Aria Hitose and her squad mates as they fight on the front line.

Lupin III

The internationally infamous Arsène Lupin, master thief and unrepentant womanizer, continues to seek out ever more challenging heists to pull off. With him goes an eccentric band of misfits; Jigen the scruffy sharpshooter, Fujiko the femme fatal of dubious loyalty, and Goemon the stoic swordsman. And close on their heels no matter where Lupin and his gang end up, the unrelenting Inspector Zenigata. Determined to put Lupin and his cohorts in prison for the seemingly endless list burglaries and thefts they have already pulled off.

This afternoon’s movie: “From Russia with Love”

A horde of lost Romanov gold has turned up in San Antonio, and Lupin aims to add it to his collection. Aiding him in his larceny is Jigen, Fujiko, and Judy Scott, an expert on the Romanov family. Unfortunately for Lupin, Rasputon, the descendant of legendary mystic Rasputin, is also seeking the gold and has convinced Goemon to do his bidding. Can Lupin outwit Rasputon, Rasputon’s henchmen, Goemon, and the New York mafia to claim the gold?

Trigun

Vash the Stampede is a gunman on the run with a 60 billion double dollar bounty on his head which has made it difficult for him to go anywhere without being chased and shot at. Every town he ever visits ends up being destroyed because of his pursuers, but miraculously no one ever gets killed. Meryl and Milly are two insurance agents that have been sent to find Vash the Stampede and keep him under surveillance so no more damage is caused.

This evening’s Episode: “$$60Billion Man”

After another “Humanoid Typhoon” incident, this time in Felnarl, Vash is tracked and captured by a group of thugs looking to collect the $$60 billion bounty on his head. He’s also being tracked down by a pair of investigators, Meryl Stryfe and Milly Thompson from the Bernardelli Insurance Society, and by a bounty hunter named Loose Ruth. But there are inconsistancies in everybody’s stories.

Maho Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus Bride)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias Ainsworth. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

Tonight’s Episode: “Those Awaiting A Star” part one

Chise Hatori moves on with her new and peaceful life in the household of the Thorn Sorceror Elias Ainsworth, slowly but surely, until one day, when she finds a Japanese picture book among the many sent to her from London by magical supply store owner Angelica. It is a fateful book that she discovered her in her younger years, when she was still troubled and lonely.

Little Witch Academia TV

Akko Kagari enrolls into Luna Nova Academy, a school for young witches, after being inspired at a young age by a witch named Shiny Chariot, and often spends her days hanging with her classmates, Lotte and Sucy. However, she has trouble paying attention in class, doesn’t know how to ride her broom, and is often looked down upon for admiring Chariot, whom many believe gives the wrong impression about witches. One day, as a teacher instructs the class to explore a dungeon and retrieve rare treasures, Akko finds the Shiny Rod that belonged to Chariot.

Kimi no Wa (Your Name)

High school girl Mitsuha has become bored of life in Japan’s mountainous Hida region, where she works at a shrine maiden at her family’s temple and where her father is a mayor seeking re-election. She has had dreams where she lives as a teenage boy in Tokyo, but when she sees a message on her notebook asking “Who are you?” and when her friends react at her strange behavior the previous day, she suspects something is going on. Similarly, high school boy Taki wakes up and finds he is Mitsuha, and his friends find his behavior to be just as strange. They realize they are able to swap bodies when they wake up, and start communicating with each other by leaving notes in Mitsuha’s notebook and memos on Taki’s phone. Mitsuha helps Taki develop a relationship with his coworker Miki, while Taki helps Mitsuha become popular in school.

Tokyo Ghoul

The story follows Ken Kaneki, a college student who barely survives a deadly encounter with Rize Kamishiro, his date who reveals herself as a ghoul. He is taken to the hospital in critical condition. After recovering, Kaneki discovers that he underwent a surgery that transformed him into a half-ghoul. This was accomplished because some of Rize’s organs were transferred into his body, and now, like normal ghouls, he must consume human flesh to survive.

Tonight’s Episode: “Tragedy”

Ken Kaneki is a young man who befriends the beautiful and enigmatic Rize Kamishiro, unaware that she is a ghoul. Rize reveals her intentions to eat Kaneki but by a stroke of luck Kaneki survives her attack but is mortally wounded. He is saved by an emergency operation, transferring Rize’s organs into himself. This subsequently turns him into a half-ghoul half-human hybrid and Kaneki struggles to survive and cope by himself.
