Screening on the evening of Saturday, March 16th 2024

This has been an interesting week for our dear otaku, with highs and lows.
– Many people were aware that starting this Thursday is the anime film “Gundam SEED FREEDOM” to appear subtitled in various cinemas.
– Also this Thursday, it might still be possible to book tickets to attend Whirlwind Quintet perform Japanimation soundtrack music at at Lyric’s Underground in Maylands.
– Then there is the sad news that Akira Toriyama, creator of “Dragonball”, “Dr Slump” and other best selling manga has passed away at the age of 68.
– Then for our GunPla otaku, and other people who enjoy assembling model kits, beloved Little Robot is closing down their bricks and mortar store and moving online only. But not without a 20% closing down sale.

And then there is the last minute news that the Curtin Pop Culture Club has an anime quiz night this Friday evening at Curtin University, Building 401 Room 155. Doors open at 5:30PM for a 6PM start. Tables of 3 – 5 anime afficionados, and we can group you up if you don’t have your A Team on call. Prizes for top 3 scoring teams and a door prize available for one lucky person! $10 entry fee ($5 for Curtin students) Light catering provided, welcome to BYO dinner. This is an alcohol-free event for all ages!

After all that, please don’t forget to attend JAFWA this Saturday for our usual anime goodness, plus a preview episode of “Witch and Beast”. There is supposedly 3 ways of removing a Witch’s curse, and the titular beast attempts the 3rd way, the extremely dangerous yet oddly effective method – kill the witch.

Non Non Biyori Nonstop (season 3)

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends.

This evening’s Episode: “Hotaru Was Really Mature?“

Renge, Hotaru, and the Koshigaya siblings help Kazuho to plant seedlings in the Miyauchi’s garden. They build a greenhouse for the seedlings after it starts raining and Renge worries they will get cold. That Sunday Konomi introduces Akane -who at first thinks Hotaru is older- to the other girls to help her with her anxiety.

Spy x Family – part 2b

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This Evening’s Episode: “Enjoy the Resort to the Fullest / Bragging About Vacation“

After the violent bodyguard assignment, the Forgers reunite as the Princess Lorelei arrives at a resort island where they enjoy various outdoor activities together. When the evening comes, Loid carries an exhausted Yor and Anya back on the ship, and commends Yor on her hard works. Returning to school after the school break, Anya tries to brag to her friends about the cruise, but it’s soon shadowed by Becky’s grander party and made fun by her classmates because of its absurdity.

The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today (Dekiru Neko wa Kyou mo Yuuutsu)

One day, a young woman named Saku took in a stray black cat who she later named Yukichi. However, as time went on, Yukichi grew large enough to be mistaken for a bear. Instead of being a threat though, Yukichi spends his time cooking food, doing laundry, and taking care of his owner after she comes home from hard days at work.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Masterful Cat Is Photogenic“

The cold of Winter causes Saku much distress, so what has happened to that staple of Japanese homes, the electric Kotatsu? Will toe beans ever be warm again? What sort of bribery is needed? But then Saku’s mom sends a care package on the proviso she gets a photo of little Yukichi, but getting a good photo of Yukichi proves difficult.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favorite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Homecoming“

With the events following the garden party, Maomao had to rest due to poison, until gets bored and starts investigating the crime with forensic precision. Later, Maomao learns from Xiaolan about the significance of the hairpins—as a “ticket” to getting favours. Maomao is then able to visit her father, who thinks her being employed at the rear palace is a twist of fate.

Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.

Tonight’s Episode: “A burnt child dreads the fire.“

Zoe reveals his inner Gorgon personality. He notices iron screws in the werewolf’s skull which he turns to stone, breaking the spell controlling her. Philomena starts disintegrating. Alcyone recalls that, to prevent Chise sensing her presence, she removed Philomena’s soul, which she now returns to her. Lucy sees a preserved Webster spider displayed on the wall and realises Philomena was there during the Webster tragedy.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)

An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.

Tonight’s Episode: “Not the Best Way“

Abandoned by her family, Suletta has fallen into a depression, much to Earth House’s concern. In the end, however, they manage to get her to open up while Martin comes clean about reporting Nika, and is forgiven. On Earth, Miorine negotiates a pause to the riots while Guel is reunited with a boy whom he recognizes from his time as a Dawn of Fold prisoner, who accidentally reveals Shaddiq’s connection to them.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2

Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were not always enemies. Long before they had what was supposed to be their final encounter during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, the pair were fellow students, rivals, and friends. In another world, they would have been the twin shining stars of Jujutsu Sorcery, but one fateful event destroyed any hope of that ever happening. Turn back the clock to witness the mission that drove them to curse one another beyond even death.

Tonight’s Episode: “Thunderclap part 2″

Backed into a corner and at near death by Haruta, Megumi unleashes his final suicide ploy, the ultimate shikigami of the Ten Shadows and the one the previous users have never been able to subjugate. He activates the ritual and is immediately knocked out, with Haruta almost killed until he is saved by Sukuna. Sukuna recognizes the ritual with Megumi trapped in a death-like state until the Mahoraga shikigami is defeated, and intending to use him for his future plans, faces the shikigami himself.

preview – The Witch and the Beast (“Majo to Yajuu”)

Ashaf, a tall quietly spoken man and his partner, Guideau, who has the appearance of a girl, but whose masked and powerful alter ego is contained within a coffin strapped to Ashaf’s back. They are tasked by the Order of Magical Resonance to bring rogue witches to account and they travel the country seeking a particular witch who poses as grave threat to society.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Witch and the City of Blazing Red“

Ashaf and his partner, Guideau arrive in a town seeking a particular witch, and find a powerful witch who is considered the community’s hero and protector. However the witch plans revenge on the anniversary of her mothers death and Ashaf and Guideau try to stop her.

Undead Unluck

Fuuko Izumo is known as a woman cursed with “Unluck.” Fuuko brings misfortune to anyone who touches her and the scale is proportional to how long they had physical contact. She’s saved by Andy, a man who cannot die (“Undead”). He hopes to figure out a way to use Fuuko’s misfortune to finally bring him death. The unlikely pair team up to complete missions given to them by the Book of Revelations, but if they or any of the other negators in their union fail, the book can punish humanity.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Victhor“

Using the Nyoi-Kinko staff, which can expand and shrink at will, along with his ability, revealed as Untruth, Shen deals considerable damage to Spoil. Andy tries to help by using Fuuko’s Unluck to cause another explosion. However, it causes him to fall into a chasm that opened beneath him. Shen convinces Andy to remove the card lodged in his forehead. This releases a more powerful alter ego named Victor, or as Shen calls him “Victhor, the God of Victory”.

Goblin Slayer season 2

In a world of fantasy, adventurers come far and wide to join the Guild, in order to complete contracts for whatever jobs are available. An inexperienced priestess joins her first adventuring party, but comes into danger after her first adventurer contract involving goblins goes wrong. After the rest of her party is wiped out, she is saved by a man known as Goblin Slayer, an adventurer whose only purpose is the eradication of goblins with extreme prejudice. And when rumours of his feats begin to circulate, there’s no telling who might come calling next.

Tonight’s Episode: “Heart of Darkness” season 2

The group begins hunting the goblin shaman, whom they find on the roof with an army of 100 goblins. Priestesses miracles, when used offensively, are dangerous to her chagrin, Goblin Slayer’s traps to redirect the river are dangerous to the goblins. Elsewhere, Hero and her party battle demons at a Gate to Hell that will soon reopen, but sense that a change to the flow of the river has weakened the Gate, which will make closing it again much easier.
