Screening on the evening of Saturday, November 11th 2023
After the overwhelmingness of Kai-Con 2023 last week, you do need to remember to come to JAFWA this week. So lest we forget, I welcome to November and overly-sunny weather.
A special shout out to the winners of JAFWA’s raffle prizes – Kiara’s ticket won first prize, and Holly Elms was the lucky second place winner.
This week, as we march onto the end of the year, along with our regular program we will screen another two preview episodes, to broaden our knowledge of anime released in Japan. The first is called “MF Ghost”, which appears to be the spiritual successor to “Initial D” that we screened at JAFWA so many years ago. The second preview episode will be a double length episode.
And could I ask you to write down your suggestions so that I don’t lose them this time. (sorry)
I am still looking into the suggestion “Tokyo Revengers OAV”, but keep them coming!

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:
- Saturday December 9th 2023 — JAFWA’s final screening for 2023 before we take a holiday. This will be a normal length screening with an irregular program. We request that you, the audience, suggest anime items for inclusion in that night’s program.
- Saturday December 16th 2023 — JAFWA doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle down at Cannington.
- Saturday January 13th 2024 — JAFWA’s screening resume in 2024.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”
Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.
This evening’s Episode: “The Medusa’s True Face ”
Taiju begins freediving to retrieve the statues. Kaseki is revived and with his help Senku makes the drone propeller by coating feathers in plastic attached to a fidget spinner. Taiju collects all the statues, including an extra statue that has been petrified for years. In the citadel Ginro is chosen to marry the Master. Moz deduces Kohaku is the infiltrator.
Spy x Family part 2b
In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.
This evening’s Episode: “Bond’s Strategy to Stay Alive / Damian’s Field Research Trip ”
Bond has a vision where he dies after eating food made by Yor. To prevent that, Bond searches for Loid so that he can come home early and cook dinner instead. Worried that Damian is studying too hard to get a Stella during the holiday break, Emile and Ewen stay behind with Damian after the former got punished for tardiness.
Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)
Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.
Tonight’s Episodes: “A small leak will sink a great ship. II” and “Nothing venture, nothing have. I”
Fabio shows them a certain plant. To Zoe and Isaac, the plant is invisible, and Philomena is hesitant to reveal what makes the plant visible to everyone else. Rian demands to know why Philomena still fears her grandmother, but she refuses to answer. Alice decides to ask Adolf about Renfred’s past. Zoe is confronted by Undergrounders, dangerous sorcerers who live under the Tower permanently, but he escapes. The headmaster seals the college dues to the magic attacks, but it is possible the criminal is now sealed inside the college with them. While visiting Simeon Elias ponders what “friends” are and realises he might have several already, at least four.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)
An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.
Tonight’s Episode: “If I Could Take One More Step Toward You ”
Shaddiq attempts to convince Miorine to sign Gund-Arm over to him under the guise of saving the company. However, she deduces that he changed the rules himself to force the situation and challenges him to a team match between Earth House and Grassley House; if Miorine wins, the change to the school regulations will be reverted while Shaddiq will gain control of Gund-Arm if he wins.
preview – MF Ghost (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)
In the 2020s, self-driving cars are ubiquitous in Japan. The story centers on Kanata Livington, a Japanese driver who goes back to Japan after graduating at the top of his class at a racing school in England. The series also focuses on the MFG, a racing circuit on public roads that has garnered attention worldwide
This evening’s Episode: “The Challenger from England”
Kanata Rivington travels from England to Japan to compete in the MFG motorsport competition and locate his father. He meets Ogata, a mechanic, and Shun Aiba, an older competitor in MFG, and prepares for the race. While in Japan, he stays with the Saionji family whose daughter, Ren Saionji, secretly works as an MFG Angel, the scantily-clad mascots of the MFG competition.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2
Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were not always enemies. Long before they had what was supposed to be their final encounter during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, the pair were fellow students, rivals, and friends. In another world, they would have been the twin shining stars of Jujutsu Sorcery, but one fateful event destroyed any hope of that ever happening. Turn back the clock to witness the mission that drove them to curse one another beyond even death.
Tonight’s Episode “The Shibuya Incident – Gate, Open” season 2
Jogo and Hanami fight Gojo up close, while Choso attacks from the rear. Gojo successfully overwhelms Hanami by completely crushing them into a corner with his Limitless, killing them. Stunned, Jogo tries to run away while still keeping Gojo busy. Mahito then arrives with a train carrying hundreds of transfigured humans that proceed to cause immense chaos in the subway among the civilians, unleashing even more he had in hiding.

Dragon hunters: warriors armed with special silver weapons who kill their prey for bounty. Lowest among their ranks is Ragna, who forms an improbable partnership with the young genius Leonica, a master dragon slayer with more kills to her name than almost any other. All Ragna wants is to stay by Leonica’s side, but his dream is shattered by an attack from the deadliest dragon imaginable
This evening’s Episode: “The Day the Reaper Was Born”
Dragons terrorize humanity, giving rise to hunters who slay dragons with Silverine weapons. Two hunters in Lese Kingdom are Leonica and her unskilled partner Ragna, who functions more as her caretaker than a hunter. Ragna believes he is cursed; dragons seem drawn to him yet he always survives while others are slaughtered. Ragna dreams of an old man predicting Leonica’s death. A dragon horde attacks every city in the kingdom, led by Grymwelte of the Blood Wings, Superior Dragons that serve the Dragon God. Ragna recognises Grymwelte as Leonica’s predicted murderer.
Vinland Saga
Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.
Tonight’s Episode: “Two Paths” season 2
Thorfinn realizes that he cannot convince Canute to alter his path, and states that he will travel far away from the reach of the king. Canute is bemused, but he accepts Thorfinn’s choice, and abandoning the ways of his father, he surprisingly alters his plan to forcefully seize farms. He even withdraws his troops from England, avoiding a potential uprising and earning the respect of the English nobles.
