September continues to bring the Sun closer to ascendency, yet JAFWA continues to deliver anime, thankjs to the assist of Kris’ Sun disactivator.
Tonight will the final, but double-length episode of “Demon Slayer” season 3, as we will have to wait for the Hashira Training Arc to be avimated.
We also have a preview episode with hostile ghosts.

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:
- August 14th to September 17th 2023 — South West Japan Festival 2023 at various locations in Bunbury.
- Saturday October 7th 2024 — JAFWA doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle down at Cannington.
- October 16th to 22nd 2023 — Japanese Film Festival will be screening in Perth.
- Weekend November 3rd to 5th 2023 — Kai-Con 2023.
- Saturday December 9th 2023 — JAFWA’s final screening for 2023 before we take a holiday. This will be a normal length screening with an irregular program. We request that you, the audience, suggest anime items for inclusion in that night’s program.
- Saturday January 13th 2024 — JAFWA’s screening resume in 2024.

The Devil is a Part-Timer season 3 (Hataraku Maou-sama)
Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alsiel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances. And now they have to look after a very special child.
This evening’s Episode: “The Hero Questions Her Hometown”
We look back on what happened to Emi after she Gated back to Ente Isla. Missing the convenience of Japan. she finds way back to her home village of Sloane, to discover that which shouldn’t be there is, and that which should be isn’t. Archbishop Olba and angelic soldiers led by Raguel arrive to capture Eni and Alas Ramus. Meanwhile Demon King Mao is plotting is planning his rescue/attack. A scooter licence comes in handy.
Ningen Fushin – aka Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai o Sukuu You Desu)
Veteran adventurer Nick’s life is falling apart. Despite all the knowledge and expertise he’s devoted to his adventuring party, his respected leader kicked him out, his girlfriend dumped him, and his teammates shamelessly accused him of embezzlement. Tired, heartbroken, and looking for a drink, Nick chances upon a few kindred spirits who are jaded as he is. Together, these disillusioned adventurers form an unstoppable team out to save their bleak, depressing world.
This evening’s Episode: “The Beautiful Paladin”
Agate the Idol meets Nick and is impressed at how far he has come but Nick is worried about her as she has recently cancelled all her concerts and public appearances. She relates how her boyfriend Donny the barkeep began borrowing her idol wages for gambling, claiming it was to save the bar. Then one day at a casino she saw Tianna easily win all Donny’s money before helping Nick defeat the evolved Leon, causing Agate to idolise Tianna as her Paladin.
Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)
Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.
Tonight’s Episode: “Better bend than break”
Chise asks Elias why he proposed marriage when he can’t comprehend what it means. Elias asks Renfred’s advice, assuming Renfred plans on marrying Alice to continue his sorcerer bloodline. Renfred is furious at the assumption since he is raising Alice as a daughter. Alice overhears and is upset, so she stays at Elias’ house with Chise.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)
An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.
Tonight’s Episode: “Guel’s Pride ”
Suletta is reinstated as a student for the upcoming duel, which will be a rematch against Guel. To ensure his victory, Vim gives Guel the Darilbalde, a new mobile suit with an auto-pilot, ignoring his son’s desire to win on his own. Meanwhile, Grassley’s CEO, Sarius Zenelli, grows suspicious of Prospera and orders his son, Grassley House head Shaddiq, to investigate Suletta.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 3
Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.
Tonight’s Episode: “A Connected Bond: Daybreak and First Light ” Swordsmith Village arc final
Mitsuri succeeds in slicing off the dragons, but as she corners Zohakuten and attempts to behead him, she fails to realize that he is not the main body and is violently stunned by his sonic attack. Zohakuten goes to kill her as she recalls her past.
preview – Dark Gathering (Daaku Gyazaringu)
Keitarou Gentouga is a college freshman who hates ghosts. Unluckily for him, he has a knack for attracting spirits. As a favour to his girlfriend Eiko, Keitarou takes on the part-time job of a private tutor to Eiko’s cousin, Yayoi Houzuki. It turns out that the odd-eyed Yayoi also sees spirits, hoping to find the ghost that took her mother away.
This evening’s Episode: “Yayoi Hozuki”
At the prestigious Reiou University Keitarou bemoans his cursed fate, and how Eiko dragged him from despair. Her next step is to get him a job as a private tutor. It turns out his first student is Eiko’s live in cousin Yayoi, who is even more sensitive to spirits than he. But Yayoi seeks out the haunted, forcing Keitarou into her schemes and revealing his secret.
retro item – City Hunter
Ryo Saeba is a “sweeper” who is always found chasing beautiful girls and a private detective who works to rid Tokyo of crime, along with his associate or partner, Hideyuki Makimura. Their “City Hunter” business is an underground jack-of-all-trades operation, contacted by writing the letters “XYZ” on a blackboard at Shinjuku Station.
Tonight’s episode: “Lady Vanish: Boutique of the Shadows ”
Beautiful girls disappear in shops, including Ryou’s partner’s little sister: Makimura Kaori.
The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!)
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.
Tonight’s Episode: “Shadow Garden Is Born”
In this new world, Kageno is Cid Kagenou, the son of minor nobles of the Kingdom of Midgar, Baron and Lady Kagenou, and younger brother to a sister, Claire. In keeping with his previous life, Cid trains in secret and resumes his vigilante lifestyle by killing bandits. One day, Cid discovers a living blob of rotting flesh and, after experimenting on it, succeeds in curing the curse afflicting it, returning it to its true form; an elven girl. Purely for his own amusement, Cid, in character as Eminence in Shadow, convinces the girl she is a descendant of ancient heroes who defeated a demon called Diablos, whom a Cult is seeking to resurrect. It turns out to be almost true.
Vinland Saga
Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.
Tonight’s Episode: “Way Home” / “The Road Home” season 2
Snake attacks Thorfinn with his curved sword, but Thorfinn manages to evade it and even land some blows. They fight to a standstill with each aware of the other’s fighting skills, but Snake reaches the cart containing Gardar and stabs him in the chest in payment for the five men he killed.
