Below is the program for the evening of Saturday August 25^th, 2018.

This week we screen the episode of “A Place Further than the Universe” / “Sora Yorimo Tooi Basho” where our 4 heroines venture forth to the strange and exotic foreign port of Fremantle in Western Australia, in their quest to reach Antarctica.

And we continie to say good bye to our regular series. Last week both “Omae wa Mada Gunma wo Shiranai” and “Alice to Zouroku” came to their conclusions. This week we conclude “Sakura Quest” and “Ancient Magus Bride”, and several other of our regular series are only 4 or 5 episodes from the end.
Thus it is rather vital that people fill in this week’s survey form so that we, the JAFWA committee, can get a good idea as to what shows should become regular items in the following months. Though I am hearing that more than a few people intend to vote for the next season of “Attack on Titan”.

We will try and sneak in one last preview episode before the Dinner Break survey. We haven’t had a sports anime on for a while, and in this one we suspect that the animators were fascinated by sweat.

It is an unfortunate fact, but in Winter we are not able to properly keep the Hall warm. A reminder to bring along warm clothing.

Sakura Quest

Yoshino Koharu is a young girl trying to look for a job in Tokyo, but is only met with a series of rejections. However, she has a seemingly lucky break when she receives a job offer to work with the tourism board of the economically struggling Manoyama village as their “Queen”. With no other choice, Yoshino accepts the offer and travels to Manoyama only to find out that she was hired based on a case of mistaken identity and that her contract term is for one year instead of the one day, as she had initially thought. With nowhere else to go, Yoshino reluctantly becomes Queen of Manoyama.

This evening’s Episode: “The Kingdom of Cherry Blossoms”

In order to help prevent Manoyama from being absorbed by getting a sister city, Mr Kadota rushes to find Mayor Naumann and bring him back to Manoyama in time for the Mizuchi Festival play, with the help of various townspeople. Meanwhile, Yoshino’s family arrives to visit, and Amamiya is also present to record some of the events for the evening news.

Sora Yorimo Tooi Basho (aka A Place Further than the Universe)

Mari Tamaki is a second-year high school student who wants to make the most out of her youth but is usually too afraid to do so. One day, she meets Shirase Kobuchizawa, a girl who has been saving up to travel to Antarctica, where her mother disappeared three years ago. Joined by two other girls, Hinata Miyake and Yuzuki Shiraishi, they join an expedition headed towards the Antarctic.

This evening’s Episode: “The Ship That Sees the Universe”

Arriving in Fremantle, the girls tour around the expedition ship to film a report before departure. While helping out the other workers, the girls begin to worry about how understaffed the expedition is and become curious as to whether Kanae is hiding some kind of plan from them.

Kentarou Tachibana is the coach of Kitakomachi High School’s badminton team. He is worried because the team has so few members that it cannot even enter competitions, but then he spots a student named Ayano Hanesaki easily climbing a large tree on the school grounds, expertly demonstrating excellent motor skills. Tachibana tries to get Ayano to join the badminton team, but finds out that Ayano hates badminton.

Tonight’s Episode: “Incredible Talent!”

Nagisa Aragaki is facing Ayano Hanesaki at the Junior Nationals badminton tournament and loses in a blowout. She has been depressed since that loss and, as captain of the badminton club, takes out her frustration on new potential club members, while Riko Izumi, the vice-captain of the badminton club, tries to tell the new members not to quit. At the start of a new school year, new students Ayano and Erena Fujisawa are wanting to join a school club.

Retro – Choujikuu Yousai Makurosu (Super Dimension Fortress Macross)

In 1999 a city-sized alien spacecraft crashes in South Ataria Island on Earth. Over the course of 10 years the military organization U.N. Spacy reverse-engineers its technology and rebuilds the spacecraft, naming it the SDF-1 Macross. In 2009 at the launch ceremony of the Macross, a space war fleet from the alien Zentraedi arrives in the solar system and identifies the Macross as a former battleship used by their enemies. Mistakes happen. Thus begins the war between Human and Zentraedi, led by the brave crew of the Macross.

Tonight’s Episode: “Private Time”

The love triangle between Hikaru, Misa and Minmay intensifies when he decides to skip out on a picnic with the commander, so he could have lunch with the pop idol instead. Giant Zentradi rebellions begin heating up, making matters worse for the humans.

Sword Art Online side-story – Gun Gale Online

This is a side story from the Sword Art Online universe, this is all new characters – no Kirito or Asuna. We follow the story of Karen Kohiruimaki, a university student with a complex about her abnormal height. She begins playing a VR game called Gun Gale Online after it gives her the cute, petit avatar that she has always wanted.

Tonight’s movie: “Booby Trap”

Squad Jam 2 begins with Llenn’s team and Pitohui’s team starting on opposite ends of the playing field. Fukaziroh quickly runs into trouble when her legs are temporarily blown off by a booby trap.

Mahou Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus Bride)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human magus named Elias Ainsworth. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Nothing seek, nothing find.” and “Live and let live.” (finale)

Elias transforms into his monster form and destroys part of the forest. Titania and Oberon offer to “help” by kidnapping Chise to the Fairy Kingdom. Chise enters Cartaphilius’s memories and sees the original Cartaphilius take over the body of a young gravedigger named Joseph, combining their memories and becoming confused over whether they are Cartaphilius or Joseph. For Cartaphilius angrily rages at being punished for a crime he cannot remember, cursed with immortality. Caught between the monstrous Elias and monstrous Cartaphilius, can Chise save anyone, let alone herself?

Overlord

Momonga, master of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, was logged in to the Virtual Reality MMO Yggdrasil on the day it closed. Instead of being logged out he found his VR game had somehow become a real world that he was now trapped in. As a massively over-powered Lich Lord, there’s very little that can threaten him, so Momonga begins exploring the world surrounding his guild headquarters and meeting with its inhabitants in the hopes of finding anyone else from Earth trapped in this world with him.

Tonight’s Episode: “Twin Swords of Slashing Death”

The assassin Clementine appears in front of Nfirea to kidnap him. The Swords of Darkness attempt to buy time for Nfirea and Ninya to escape but Khajiit blocks their way of escape and the adventurers are slaughtered. After registering Hamsuke at the Adventurer’s Guild, Momon’s group meets Lizzie Bareare and guides them to her house.

Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku (Magical Girl Raising Project)

Himekawa Koyuki plays a popular social game known as the Magical Girl Raising Project, that secretly has the ability to grant players a 1-in-10,000 chance of becoming a real-life magical girl. Each of the magical girls possess unique abilities and earn Magical Candies by protecting people and performing good deeds. However, shortly after Himekawa Koyuki becomes the magical girl Snow White, the administration has decided that sixteen magical girls in a certain city is too many, and the number needs to be reduced…

Tonight’s Episode: “Sudden Event in Session!”

Sister Nana and Weiss Winterprison seek allies against the cruel rules, but it turns out that the meeting with Swim Swim and the Peaky Twins is an ambush. And Calamity Mary, who sets out to try and kill Ripple and Top Speed, begins killing innocent civilians on the highway in order to prevent their escape

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Diamond is Unbreakable (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable)

It’s the year 1999, 11 years after Jotaro Kujo’s desperate fight against Dio in Egypt. Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of his grandfather Joseph Joestar. He discovers that Josuke also has the same “Stand” power and that a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City.

Tonight’s Episode: “Janken Boy Is Coming!”

Kira’s ghost father Yoshihiro decides to use the arrow to make more Stand-wielding allies, first using it on a boy named Ken Oyanagi. Ken then pesters Rohan to play Janken (rocks, paper, scissors) with him, losing his first match after Rohan uses Heaven’s Door to figure out his move. As Ken continues to force Rohan to play Janken with him and manages to win his third match against him, his Stand, appears and tries to suck in Heaven’s Door.
