Below is the program for the evening of Saturday August 18^th, 2018.

This week we have not one, but two preview episodes. While we endeavour to show a broad selection of anime from Japan, we can never hope to screen more than a tiny fraction of what is produced in Japan. Still, we show preview episode like these to give you an idea of what other anime is produced.
Also, some of our regular series are about to finish, and we are wondering if any these preview shows might be voted into the JAFWA program as regular items. Last week’s “Cells at Work!” proved to be popular, bar one young lady. Do you dare miss out watching these preview episode in case they are also gems.

As a bonus, one of the original JAFWA members is coming to JAFWA this weekend with a boxload of free goodies. DVDs, manga, books, anime toys, etc.

Speaking of “Cells at Work!”, it has been brought to my attention that even though it has only been screening in Japan for barely a month, people have already begun cosplaying platelets. Kawaii!

It is an unfortunate fact, but in Winter we are not able to properly keep the Hall warm. A reminder to bring along warm clothing.

CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card

The long=awaited sequel. Sakura and Syaoran are starting junior high school. With the Final Judgment passed, Sakura thinks school life will be quiet, but then all her cards suddenly turn blank. The mysterious new power she discovers will change how she thinks about her powers.

This evening’s Episode: “Sakura and a Game of Tag in the Garden”

Sakura, Kero and Syaoran pay a visit to Tomoyo’s house so they can test the powers of Record in the garden. However, this reveals a new card that puts their plans to flight.

Sakura Quest

Yoshino Koharu is a young girl trying to look for a job in Tokyo, but is only met with a series of rejections. However, she has a seemingly lucky break when she receives a job offer to work with the tourism board of the economically struggling Manoyama village as their “Queen”. With no other choice, Yoshino accepts the offer and travels to Manoyama only to find out that she was hired based on a case of mistaken identity and that her contract term is for one year instead of the one day, as she had initially thought. With nowhere else to go, Yoshino reluctantly becomes Queen of Manoyama.

This evening’s Episode: “The Eternal Obelisk”

With the threat that Manoyama will be absorbed into a nearby town, Yoshino and her friends decide that the best way to prevent the absorption is to continue with the Mizuchi Festival and convince people that Manoyama is still worth preserving. Amamiya then arrives and warns them that his boss Kume will offer to broadcast the Mizuchi Festival on national TV on the conditions that Ririko’s role as the dragon in the Dragon Song play be recast for one of the network’s idols.

Sora Yorimo Tooi Basho (aka A Place Further than the Universe)

Mari Tamaki is a second-year high school student who wants to make the most out of her youth but is usually too afraid to do so. One day, she meets Shirase Kobuchizawa, a girl who has been saving up to travel to Antarctica, where her mother disappeared three years ago. Joined by two other girls, Hinata Miyake and Yuzuki Shiraishi, they join an expedition headed towards the Antarctic.

This evening’s Episode: “Welcome to the Durian Show”

As the girls arrive in Singapore for a two-day layover before boarding their connecting flight to Australia, Hinata discovers that she appears to have lost her passport. With not enough time before their next flight to obtain a new passport from the embassy, Hinata accepts that she may have to miss out on the expedition altogether, much to Shirase’s objection..

Retro – Choujikuu Yousai Makurosu (Super Dimension Fortress Macross)

In 1999 a city-sized alien spacecraft crashes in South Ataria Island on Earth. Over the course of 10 years the military organization U.N. Spacy reverse-engineers its technology and rebuilds the spacecraft, naming it the SDF-1 Macross. In 2009 at the launch ceremony of the Macross, a space war fleet from the alien Zentraedi arrives in the solar system and identifies the Macross as a former battleship used by their enemies. Mistakes happen. Thus begins the war between Human and Zentraedi, led by the brave crew of the Macross.

Tonight’s Episode: “Rainy Night”

As Misa begins to realize she may be losing Hikaru to Minmay, Claudia helps her friend by recounting her early experiences with Roy Focker.

Alice to Zouroku (Alice and Zouroku)

Sana Kashimura, a little orphan girl who is one of the children that holds the power of “Alice’s Dream,” a special ability that enables her to materialise anything she imagines. After escaping a lab where she was a test subject, she ends up in the outside world where she encounters a grumpy old man named Zouroku, but she wonders if he will help her.

Tonight’s Episode: “I’m Home” (final)

Sana and Hatori have been lost in Wonderland for the equivalent of 10 days in the outside world. The two girls attempt to find a new exit and come across a rabbit that is holding Hatori’s cell phone.

preview – Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes (Holmes of Kyoto)

In an antique shop in Kyoto’s Teramachi Sanjou shopping district, high school girl Aoi Mashiro unexpectedly runs into Kiyotaka Yagashira, the son of the shop’s owner, and ends up working part-time at the shop. Kiyotaka is called the “Holmes at Teramachi Sanjou,” and he and Aoi solve odd cases brought to them by various clients.

Tonight’s Episode: “Holmes and Zen Master Hakuin”

Mashiro Aoi is taking lessons on antiques from Yagashira Kiyotaka, who has earned the nickname “Holmes”-san. An incident with counterfeit porcelein, when she recollects of the events that led to her being employed by the shop.

Maho Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus Bride)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human magus named Elias Ainsworth. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

Tonight’s Episode: “As you sow, so shall you reap.”

Chise has run away from Elias over his attempt to save her, but lands in more peril, by taking Cartaphilius’ aid. Cartaphilius explains his plan: since he is cursed with eternal life and Chise is cursed to die, he proposes to swap Chise’s cursed arm for his own, hoping it will curse Cartaphilius to die while cursing Chise with immortality.

Overlord

Momonga, master of the Ainz Ooal Gown guild, was logged in to the Virtual Reality MMO Yggdrasil on the day it closed. Instead of being logged out he found his VR game had somehow become a real world that he was now trapped in. As a massively over-powered Lich Lord, there’s very little that can threaten him, so Momonga begins exploring the world surrounding his guild headquarters and meeting with its inhabitants in the hopes of finding anyone else from Earth trapped in this world with him.

Tonight’s Episode: “Wise King of Forest”

Momon’s group arrives at Carne Village, and learns of the “Wise King of the Forest”, a supposedly powerful magical creature. Momonga sees an opportunity to gain fame.

preview – Satsuriku no Tenshi (Angels of Death)

Most girls waking up without any memory and meeting a serial killer would panic, but not Ray. In fact, far from being her biggest problem, killer Zack might just prove a convenient resource when it comes to finding a way out of the building in which they’re both trapped.

Tonight’s Episode: “Kill me… please”

After visiting a hospital for counseling, Rachel wakes up in an unfamiliar building with no memory of how she got there. She is told by a voice over an intercom that she will be the “sacrifice” for the inhabitants of the upper floors. Riding the elevator up to B6, she encounters a insane, bandaged man wielding a scythe.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Diamond is Unbreakable (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable)

It’s the year 1999, 11 years after Jotaro Kujo’s desperate fight against Dio in Egypt. Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of his grandfather Joseph Joestar. He discovers that Josuke also has the same “Stand” power and that a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City.

Tonight’s Episode: “Atom Heart Father”

Josuke and the others search through Kira’s house, trying to find clues about the serial killer. But the ghost of Kira’s late father, Yoshihiro, also has a Stand ability and will attack the intruders. Elsewhere, Kira begins living under the new identity of the man whose face he stole, and moving into his house, with his family.
