We have been having an interesting time watching “Made in Abyss”, but this 1-cour show comes to an end this week. But rejoice, it has been announced that a second season is in production.
We are also going to have two preview items tonight. One of them, “King’s Avatar” (Quan Zhi Gao Shou ????) is actually a Chinese attempt at doing anime, so we at JAFWA thought you might like to compare the cultural and artistic differences between the two countries’ anime.

Synopsis

Sakura Quest

Yoshino Koharu is a young girl trying to look for a job in Tokyo, but is only met with a series of rejections. However, she has a seemingly lucky break when she receives a job offer to work with the tourism board of the economically struggling Manoyama village as their “Queen”. With no other choice, Yoshino accepts the offer and travels to Manoyama only to find out that she was hired based on a case of mistaken identity and that her contract term is for one year instead of the one day, as she had initially thought. With nowhere else to go, Yoshino reluctantly becomes Queen of Manoyama.

This evening’s Episode: “The Mansion in Purgatory”

Trying to help put Manoyama on the map, Ririko acts as the stand in for the missing actor, and has trouble doing the scene until Maki gives her some coaching. However, Maki begins to have recollection of her childhood and her love of acting, which troubles her. Meanwhile, Yoshino contacts the owners of the abandoned house and finds out they already gave permission to Shiori. Why did Shiori lie?

Knight’s and Magic

A world where medieval knights use giant robots called Silhouette Knights to fight against demon beasts, magical ravenous animals that devour everything on sight. Tsubasa Kurata is a mecha otaku from Japan who gets killed in a car accident. Tsubasa is reincarnated in this new parallel world as Ernesti “Eru” Echevallia, a boy born into a noble family. Tsubasa’s previous otaku memories inspire Ernesti into creating his own Silhouette Knight in order to defend his kingdom.

This evening’s Episode: “New & Old”

The match between the Order of Silver Phoenix and the Laboratory Team ends in a draw, as with the new units’ increased power they reached a stalemate against units less advanced, but with more experienced pilots. Some time later, Eru and his friends graduate from Laihiala and move with the rest of the order to Fort Orobesius to dedicate themselves to Silhouette Knight development. But the Kingdom is about to undergo a shakeup.

Fune wo Amu (aka The Great Passage)

Araki is a veteran editor for the dictionary department at the Genbu Shob? publishing company. He is looking for a successor now that he’s approaching retirement age. After Majime Mitsuya — a salesman who’s a poor talker — meets Masashi Nishioka — Araki’s coworker who is sociable and frivolous — Araki overhears their conversation and decides to recruit Majime into the department. The “odd couple” work together to compile a medium-sized Japanese dictionary titled “The Great Passage”.

This evening’s Episode: “Encounter”

Araki introduces Majime to the rest of the staff in the dictionary department. The great task of making a dictionary lies ahead of him with all the nexessary words, but does the loner Majime have what it takes to work in a team environment? Though it is not just his professional environment that is going to get crowded.

Retro – Ch?jik? Y?sai Makurosu (Super Dimension Fortress Macross)

In 1999 a city-sized alien spacecraft crashes in South Ataria Island on Earth. Over the course of 10 years the military organization U.N. Spacy reverse-engineers its technology and rebuilds the spacecraft, naming it the SDF-1 Macross. In 2009 at the launch ceremony of the Macross, a space war fleet from the alien Zentraedi arrives in the solar system and identifies the Macross as a former battleship used by their enemies. Mistakes happen. Thus begins the war between Human and Zentraedi, led by the brave crew of the Macross.

This evening’s Episode: “Pine (pineapple) Salad”

With Hikaru still recovering, Roy has Max and Kakizaki assigned to his Skull Squadron as his wingmen. Milia attacks the Macross with her Queadluun-Rau squadron, however, she has a personal vendetta against an ace human pilot that Quazmin believes she can’t defeat.

Made in Abyss

An orphan girl named Riko who lives in the town of ?su on an island in the sea of Beoluska. The city surrounds a strange, giant hole going deep into the earth, which is commonly called the Abyss. The Abyss harbours artefacts and remnants of a civilisation long gone, and is therefore the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descends into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find. However, the deeper one goes into the Abyss, the more one is afflicted by a progressively fatal malady called the Curse of the Abyss; few who have descended into the lower regions have returned to tell of their experiences.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Challengers” Finale

When Reg recovers from using his Incinerator, he has questions about Nanachi’s request. Nanachi tells him the story of when several children, including Mitty, were duped by the white whistle Bondrewd. He took them to his base in the fifth layer of the Abyss, the Sea of Corpses, and used them for his inhuman experiments into the Curse.

In the multiplayer online game “Glory”, Ye Xiu is regarded as a textbook and a top-tier pro-player. However, due to a myriad reasons, he is kicked from the team. After leaving the pro scene, he finds work in an Internet Cafe as a manager. When Glory launches its tenth server, he throws himself in to the game once more. Possessing ten years of experience, the memories of his past, and an incomplete, self-made weapon, his return along the road to the summit begins!

In competitive professional e-sports, Ye Xiu has been the top tiered player in the multiplayer online game “Glory”. However, the managers in his company sideline him. For a gamer who lives to game and the best at what he does, what is he to do?

Maho Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus Bride)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias Ainsworth. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Faerie Queene”

With Matthew’s soul cleansed Renfred and Alice leave and meet the sorcerer who killed Mina. Elias informs Chise she probably only has three years of life remaining, but he believes he has found a method of preventing her death.

The city’s Hakata ward is home to the professionals of the underworld: professional killers, detectives, informants, professional revenge seekers, those skilled in torture, and more. And according to urban legend, even a “killer of professional killers” exists in the city. When stories of the men in the underworld are told, a “professional killer murder” appears.

Tonight’s Episode: “Play Ball”

In a city where it is never as peaceful as it looks on the surface, and all debts must be repaid, a waif of a hitman arrives at Banba Private Investigators. What is this murderous person’s story, and what do they hope to find at Banba?

Youjo Senki (The Saga of Tanya the Evil)

In an alternate universe similar to 1910’s Europe, in an empire torn apart by countless wars with all nearby countries. An arrogant Japanese is reborn as Second Lieutenant Tanya Degurechaff of the Imperial Army, a 9-year-old soldier girl. In search for an escape, Tanya decides to enter into the Empire’s Mages Division and fight in World War I, hoping to reach a high enough rank as fast as possible to remain far from the battlefield and in this way avoid the risk of being killed. Even if she’s now forced to speak with a young girl’s lisp, Tanya soon turns into a ruthless soldier who prioritises efficiency and her own career over anything else, even the lives of those beneath her.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Battle of the Fjord”

At the Legadonia Entente Alliance Port Arnelus, Colonel Anson Sioux farewells his daughter as he left to take command of the relatively quiet Orse Fjord. Meanwhile at the Imperial Army Northern Theater Command Strategy Conference, Tanya proposes a strategic retreat, to resupply Imperial forces instead of a futile short-term offensive. She deduces that it is a diversion for Empire forces to launch a sea offensive.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Diamond is Unbreakable (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable)

It’s the year 1999, 11 years after Jotaro Kujo’s desperate fight against Dio in Egypt. Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of his grandfather Joseph Joestar. He discovers that Josuke also has the same “Stand” power and that a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City.

Tonight’s Episode: “Toshikazu Hazamada (Surface) / Toshikazu Hazamada (Show Off)”

The repentent Kobayashi informs Josuke and Koichi about a Stand user in their school named Toshikazu Hazamada who allegedly caused his friend to gouge his own eye out. While investigating Hazamada’s locker, Josuke comes across a wooden dummy which turns out to be Hazamada’s Stand “Surface”, which turns into a copy of Josuke and takes control of his movements.
