Election Alert! This is the final night we will be taking nominations for the JAFWA committee elections, for the elections on the night after the AGM, July 15th.
Are you a fully signed up member, who wants a chance of glory trying to serve the fickle needs of the JAFWA audience?
Four new regular series are starting tonight, and we still haven’t fully decided on the 5th, the new retro series (we tentatively have “Read or Die”, last fully screened at JAFWA in 2002). The excitement is spine chilling (or has Winter finally arrived?).
And with the second series of “Attack on Titan” soon to finish, we had better start looking at some potential replacements, so tonight we show the first episode of a new series by the creators of “Hellsing” anime.

Committee member roles
With the annual JAFWA elections coming up, we thought we would give you a quick synopsis of what the committee positions involve.
We will be voting for 8 committee members, in no particular position. Once elected, these 8 individuals decide amongst themselves as to whom will fulfill which of the following roles:
- President – (aka Shogun) Hours: 5 hours per week average.
What is involved? Talking with other like-minded groups, attending their meetings where possible, maintaining strong connections and relationships. Looking for opportunities to grow and develop the club and the best path to achieve success.
What sort of person is needed? Someone with charisma and charm, strong interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, foresight, the strength to make decisions but also to hear opinions and weigh both to find what is the best outcome, and dedication to the club and it’s success. - Vice President – backup for President
- Secretary – Time required for the job varies considerably. On those weeks where there is no survey: 1-3 hours. On those weeks where there is a survey: 5-8 hours.
Tasks Include: Taking minutes at the monthly JAFWA committee meeting, creating and reworking the yearly schedule (with input from other committee members), preparing the monthly and special surveys, tabulating the results from each survey, and managing JAFWA’s correspondence with the state Government (in regards to our incorporation as a not for profit club).
The Secretary’s job would normally include managing memberships as well, but that task has graciously been taken on by other committee members (at least for now).
The job of Secretary would suit someone who: Likes writing things down, can express themselves well (at least in written form, spontaneous wit is not a requirement for this job), enjoys the logic puzzle of scheduling, wants to help create a JAFWA programme that everyone can enjoy. - Treasurer – aka person who should know where all the money is.
- General Committee member * 4 – Hours: various.
Role: the 4 General committee members provide much needed support to the business of the JAFWA committee. Watching previews of new shows, looking for specials, thinking of improvements and undertaking actions to make ideas into reality, assisting the Secretary and Treasurer with tasks such as accounts and the JAFWA website/Facebook pages – there is a place for anyone’s existing skillset and opportunities to develop new skills.

- Saturday July 8th 2017 — Nominations close for JAFWA’s committee election.
- July 10th to July 14th 2017 — Revelation Film Festival anime at Luna cinemas – “Boy and the Beast” and “Wolf Children”.
- Saturday July 15th 2017 — JAFWA AGM from 3PM – all signed up members requested to attend.
- Saturday July 15th 2017 — JAFWA election during Dinner Break.
- Thursday July 20th 2017 — All 3 Evangelion movies showing in selected cinemas.
- Sunday August 20th 2017 — Collector Zone! Toy and Hobby Fair at Craigie Leisure Centre.

Synopsis
Atom: The Beginning
This series is a prequel to Osamu Tezuka’s “Astro Boy” series, depicting the events up until the birth of Astro Boy.
This evening’s Episode: “Bewusstsein”
The same mummified humanoid stands in front of a billboard while he is assigned a target as A106; While back at lab 7 Hiroshi wakes up Ummataro as to get ready for their academic briefing sessions, while Ran tries to seek into Nerima University to obtains spare parts from lab 7’s junkyard. There she runs into Motoko, not knowing she is Hiroshi’s sister.
Little Witch Academia
Akko Kagari enrolls into Luna Nova Academy, a school for young witches, after being inspired at a young age by a witch named Shiny Chariot, and often spends her days hanging with her classmates, Lotte and Sucy. However, she has trouble paying attention in class, doesn’t know how to ride her broom, and is often looked down upon for admiring Chariot, whom many believe gives the wrong impression about witches.
This evening’s Episode: “Orange Submariner”
Her room-mates think something is off, as Akko studies hard for her exams, but she still struggles to get decent grades despite Ursula-sensei’s tutorage. After all, Akko is threatened with expulsion from Luna Nova should she fail her final exam, which she did not know requires an understanding of fish language.
Udon no Kuni no Kiniro Kemari (The Golden Furball of Udon Country) (aka Poco’s Udon World)
Souta Tawara was the son of a noodle restaurant owner. Born and raised in Kagawa Prefecture (a.k.a the Udon Prefecture), he had been living an uneventful life in Tokyo as a web designer. After his father’s demise he returns home to find the restaurant having gone out of business and a young boy that he names Poco hiding there. He grows fond of him and decides to take care of him and constantly worries about what would happen to Poco once he leaves. He regrets leaving his home and his father because of his selfishness and mentions it to his big sister when she expresses her regret of being unable give their father a grandchild. His time spent with Poco often reminds him of how his father lovingly took care of him, which further adds to his regrets.
This evening’s Episode: “The Red Lighthouse”
In the middle of the early AM, Souta is awaoken by his childhood griend who wants take him fishing. Souta is able to explain away Poco’s presence, but is unable to prevent Nakajima taking him down to the wharf by the red lighthouse. It is more a case of catching up on old times rather than catching fish…
retro series – Read or Die
An alternate history world where the British Empire has remained a major superpower. The Empire’s continued existence is guaranteed by the British Library, an external intelligence agency working within the actual British Library and its Special Operations Division. We follow the adventures of Yomiko Readman, also known as “The Paper”, a superhuman agent of the Library’s Special Operations.
Tonight’s Episode: “episode One”
The White House has been evacuated as the samurai Gennai Hiraga appears on top of the White House and annihilates it using a mysterious power. Meanwhile, in Tokyo, Yomiko Readman gets her hands on an ultra-rare German first edition book, “die Unsterbliche Liebe” (or “The Immortal Beloved”). The book is dusty and dirty, but has sheet music handwritten in its pages, in the margins and on the blank pages in the back and front. Almost immediately she is attacked by a superhuman-like clone of Jean Henri Fabre riding a giant mecha grasshopper.

In the distant future, the discovery of the new mineral Orichalt has allowed humanity to expand beyond the Sol System. On the constant lookout for Orichalt, humanity has developed I-Machines, robots that operate in extreme environments. I-Machines function by transferring a human pilot’s consciousness into the robot’s operating system; in that sense, the human becomes the machine. While Alliance Academy student Maya Mikuri is in the middle of operating an I-Machine, she gets involved in an incident with pirates, and ends up serving as a crew member on an excavation company’s spaceship.
Tonight’s Episode: “Mind Trance”
Alliance Academy student Maya Mikuri is working with her professor mining for Orichalt ore sample on a remote asteroid. While her consciousness is in an I-Machine at the mine site, an explosion occurs and her I-Machine AI is blasted into space where Maya’s I-Machine is rescued by pirates led by Grayman.
Lupin III (series 4 from 2015)
The internationally infamous Arsène Lupin, master thief and unrepentant womanizer, continues to seek out ever more challenging heists to pull off. With him goes an eccentric band of misfits; Jigen the scruffy sharpshooter, Fujiko the femme fatal of dubious loyalty, and Goemon the stoic swordsman. And close on their heels no matter where Lupin and his gang end up, the unrelenting Inspector Zenigata. Determined to put Lupin and his cohorts in prison for the seemingly endless list burglaries and thefts they have already pulled off.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Marriage of Lupin III”
After receiving a mysterious invitation, Inspector Zenigata arrives in San Marino for Lupin’s wedding to Rebecca Rossellini, a wealthy heiress and businesswoman. Surely the marriage is a sham, and that Lupin plans to steal the Royal Crown of Liberty, a rare artifact given to women to wear on the day after their wedding…
Re: Creators
Sota Mizushino is a young high school student and anime fan who dreams of writing his own light novel. While looking to an anime for inspiration, the iPad he is watching it on sputters and drags him into the anime’s world, where he witness a battle between the anime’s character Selesia and a mysterious girl wearing a military uniform. After returning with Selesia, Sota discovers that other characters from different stories and forms of media were also brought to the real world, with some of them aligned with the military uniform girl, who promised them the ways to end the strife in their worlds and a way back home, unaware of her true intentions .
Tonight’s Episode: “Dynamite and Cool Guy …… that wasn’t funny.”
Video game character Meteora explains how the Military Uniform Princess transported her and Selesia, along with other fictional characters, to the world where their worlds were created with the intent of overthrowing their creators and having them rewrite their worlds. As Selesia requests to meet her own creator, Sota arranges her to meet with the Vogelchevalier light novel’s author, though an attack from a fictional magical girl will add to the confusion.
Preview – Drifters
Shimazu Toyohisa is the real-life samurai who fought in the pivotal Battle of Sekigahara. In his dying moments, Shimazu is transported to a world of magic and fantastic races. There, Toyohisa meets other great warriors like him who have been transported as well, to be part of a group known as “Drifters”. However, the world is at war, with the humans waging a losing war against another group of great warriors, the “Ends”, who wish to take over the world and kill all of the Drifters.
Tonight’s Episode: “Fight Song”
During the Battle of Sekigahara against Ii Naomasa and his army, Shimazu Toyohisa manages to mortally injure Naomasa, but is critically wounded in the process. Naomasa’s army is forced to retreat due to Toyohisa’s perseverance and resilience. As he walks from the battlefield wounded and bleeding, Toyohisa finds himself transported to a corridor of doors, where a bespectacled man at a desk waits for him. As he is about to attack the bespectacled man, Toyohisa is sucked into one of the doors and dropped into a field, unconscious. Two elven children, speaking in a strange language, find Toyohisa and decide bring him to a castle ruins, the hideout for two other Drifters.
Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) season 2
The entirety of mankind lives encased within a series of fortified walls which protect them from the Titans, giant humanoid monsters who devour people, that roam the world beyond the outer wall. But now, after nearly a hundred years of relative safety, new Titans have appeared. The security of the walls is a thing of the past, and mankind may be facing extinction.
Tonight’s Episode: “Opening”
As Erwin leads the expedition away from Wall Rose the rescue Erin. Meanwhile, in the Forest of Giant Trees, Eren realizes that he has no arms, but his attempts to Titan Shift are stopped by Ymir. She points out that they are they deep within Titan territory, surrounded by Titans, weakened from their earlier battle, and only Reiner and Bertholdt possess 3DMG.
Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Stardust Crusaders (Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure – Stardust Crusaders)
It’s 1989. Fifty odd years have passed since Joseph Joestar did battle with the immortal Pillar Men and now his Japanese grandson, Jotaro Kujo, finds his life turned upside down. A strange new ability awakens within his bloodline, granting him great power but threatening to kill his mother.
… An ancient enemy of the family has returned.
Tonight’s Episode: “Hol Horse and Boingo, part 1”
Hol Horse meets up with DIO, who gives him one final chance to defeat Jotaro’s group, making it clear what the consequences of failure are. To accomplish his goals, Hol Horse kidnaps Boingo and takes him with him to Cairo, coercing him to team up with him so that he combine Thoth’s (a Stand in the form of a weird manga) prediction abilities with his Emperor’s power (a Stand in the form of a pistol).
