Below is the program for October 11^th, 2014.

NOTE: we have a special presentation during the Dinner Break. Its a rundown of why shows ended up where they did in the programme, and we are looking for feedback from the audience on whether or not we made the right choices.

We continue to say goodbye to some beloved anime series.

But fear not, a few new series start this week, selected from the results in last session’s survey. Technically “Zankyou no terror” preview was so recent that we are not repeating episode 1.

Some of the new series we start this month will be completed by the end of the year, others will continue into next year.

Synopsis

Fairy Tail

Magic and mayhem in the nation of Fiore. The members of the infamous mage’s guild Fairy Tail spend their days sorting out problems for the residents of Magnolia and battling the odd apocalyptic demon or dark guild. Of course they don’t let little things like that get in the way of having fun.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Deepest Realm“

Happy, Carla and Pantherlilly continue looking for the engine room of Grimoire Heart’s vessel, to stop them from fleeing the island. And whilst the remnants of Grimoire Heart staged a sneak attack on the Fairy Tail base camp, the remnants of the Magic Council’s army have already fled. Master Hades, meanwhile, has managed to cripple Laxus. However before Hades takes him down altogether, Laxus passes the bulk of his magical power to Natsu. After all, it must be a member of Fairy Tail that gets revenge for the attack on Fairy Tail.

Preview – Hoozuki no Reitetsu

The Hell of Japan is divided into numerous regions and departments, a different punishment for different types of crime. And all those departments need to be managed. But beyond those simply in charge of their various departments, every good bureaucracy has a troubleshooter. Someone who can keep calm in a crisis and find a solution to whatever problems arise. And with an ever increasing number of people being sent down for punishment, hell is in need of one of those. That’s where Hoozuki comes in.

Tonight’s Episode: “Making or Breaking Hell” finale

Great King Enma, the lord of hell, does not make for an imposing figure. Nor does he make for an effective administrator of hell. Indeed when the problems begin to mount, which they are doing right now, he delegates problems to Hozuki. Something Hozuki is never particularly happy about. But hell is so busy at the moment even Hozuki is not available, he is currently out doing inspections of the various places of punishment. And that is followed by the arrival of a troublemaker …

Sword Art Online, Season 2

It has been a year since the victims of Alfheim Online were freed from their virtual prison, and more than a year since Sword Art Online was shut down. But now it has begun once again. A mysterious figure has been making appearances in the game Gun Gale Online, and other players drop dead in their wake. Kirito finds himself once again risking his life in the online world.

Tonight’s Episode: “World of Guns“

For the virtual pubs and bars in GGO, the show of choice is the news and discussion program MMO Stream. But in one virtual pub a cloaked figure declares the guest Zexceed deserving of judgement before shooting the screen, causing Zexceed to writhe in agony before being disconnected from the talk show. And now the other patrons are taking the hooded figure much more seriously, as he addresses them in a grand sweeping gesture and gives his name – Death Gun.

Samurai Flamenco

He started as an enthusiastic amateur, grew into a trained hero with high tech gadgets, and now he leads a team of heroes backed by a giant robot. Hazama Masayoshi’s childhood dream of becoming the hero Samurai Flamenco has been fulfilled and then some. Of course, to be a hero you need villains to fight. But there seems to be no shortage of candidates lining up for that role …

Tonight’s Episode: “Samurai Flamenco Naked” (Finale)

In a deliberate replay of the events surrounding King Torture, Sawada Heiji has taken one of Hazama’s friends prisoner to lure him out. This time Gotou. Unfortunately Sawada isn’t as dramatic as King Torture … he’s content to just use a gun. The meaning of Kaname’s final lesson still eludes Hazama, but his discussion with Ishihara leads him to believe Sawada, like him, has no real experience of love and that he acts as he does because of that inexperience. Gotou, on the other hand, does know about love. Although for him it has been a painful experience.

preview – Zankyou no Terror (Resonance of Terror)

Tokyo is under attack, from a pair of terrorists referring to themselves as ‘Sphinxes’. With a series of complicated riddles uploaded to the internet as the only warning of when and where each attack will take place the police scramble to protect the city. But there may be more to these terrorists than their appearance, or their dehumanizing names, suggest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Call and Response“

Nine and Twelve have made their explosive mark on Tokyo, bringing down the top floors of a skyscraper. They have also dragged Lisa Mishima into their world, although Twelve seems to have done that to help Nine deal with trauma from their shared past. For Lisa however, the experience is just another source of torment. On top of the bullies at school and her hysterical, paranoid mother. The police meanwhile are pooling all the resources to locate the people responsible for the attack.

Genshiken Nidaime (Genshiken Second Season)

The old guard have graduated and now only Ogiue, Ohno and Kuchiki remain. As a new year begins Genshiken is once again infused with new members, who bring with them their own quirks, tastes and personal baggage with which to befuddle, bemuse and entertain the rest of the club. The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture (Gendai Shikaku Bunka Kenkyukai, abbreviated as Gen Shi Ken) is back.

Tonight’s Episode: “There’s a Route but no Loop“

The club members have split up into groups so they can make a compilation to sell at the upcoming Uni Fair. The entire exercise revealed more of Hato’s oddities, specifically his drastically altered art-style when not crossdressing and the possibility that his crossdressing began as the result of a failed romance back in high-school. Hato meanwhile is still using Madarame’s flat to change, but as he does so he realizes that he hasn’t actually seen Madarame in some time.

Witch Craft Works

Takamiya Honoka’s life used to be completely normal. That is until the day he was attacked by a Witch of the Tower and learned that Kagari Ayaka, the most popular girl in school, is secretly his personal bodyguard and a witch herself. Now Takamiya must contend with a growing procession of eccentric magic users out to either kidnap or kill him, all whilst trying to figure out why anyone is interested in him in the first place.

Tonight’s Episode: “Takamiya and the Witch of the End“

A convoluted plan by Kagari to stage a rebellion in the school, which Takamiya would then stop in order to gain popularity, somehow managed to work. But the fight has finally convinced Kagari to start teaching Takamiya how to use magic to defend himself. The first lesson is summoning a familiar. Kagari starts by creating one of her fire elementals and then tries to help Takamiya to call up something of his own. But when he comments on how she is being overprotective, she decides to let her familiar run loose and leave him to sink or swim.

Sidonia no Kishi (Knights of Sidonia)

A thousand years after mankind fled Earth, Sidonia is a vast colony ship traversing deep space. The people within, genetically altered to contend with the harsh demands of space travel and Sidonia’s limited resources, live under a military dictatorship. Nagate Tanikaze however knows almost none of this, he has spent his life in the service tunnels of the ship, training in mecha combat simulators. When he is finally found by the rest of the Sidonia’s population, Tanikaze finds himself inducted into their military to help defend the colony ship against monstrous beings known as Gauna.

Tonight’s Episode: “Determination“

Morale is low amongst the Gardes pilots. In spite of Tanikaze’s successes there are still fatalities, and ever more sorties to fly. Inbetween his sorties Tanikaze continues to spend time with the Hoshijiro-gauna hybrid, which has begun to behave in ever more human ways. But Yuhata has decided to prise him away from the hyrbid this time. And even though she hadn’t planned on Izana tagging along, the three of them together can try and dig up the lost research of the heretical Dr Ochiai. Who is still alive and imprisoned under Kunato’s mansion.

No Game No Life

Siblings Sora and Shiro have spent their life in games, rejecting the complications of the real world in favour of virtual ones and gaining a phenomenal reputation for their unbeatable teamwork. But when they reply to a strange email they find themselves transported to a world where everything is decided by games. It’s time to put their skills to the ultimate test!

Tonight’s Episode: “Beginner“

The Blanks are a near legendary online gaming team. They never give a name, and they have never been beaten in any game where they appeared. Although there is four members online, the team is actually just brother and sister Sora and Shiro. And they have never been beaten because games are their life. Even food and sleep is secondary to games, although Shiro has reached her limit after five days without a break. But it seems that the sibling’s legendary gaming skills have attracted the attention of something other than their fellow online gamers.

Kill la Kill

Ryuko Matoi is a girl on a mission; to find the person responsible for her father’s death. Her search has led her to Honnouji Academy, a brutal, totalitarian school where the student council, led by Satsuki Kiryuin and empowered by their Ultima Uniforms, rule over everyone else. Ryuko quickly finds herself at odds with Satsuki’s dictatorship, but aid comes to Ryuko both from unexpected allies within the school … and a set of skimpy talking clothes.

Tonight’s Episode: “Beyond the Infinite Darkness” (finale?)

The original Life Fibre has been defeated by Ryuuko, Satsuki and all their allies. The only thing left to destroy is the radio transmitter. But having now, literally, crashed into Honnouji Academy they must content with Harime Nui’s final creation – the Shinra (Omnisilk) Kouketsu. A new garment for Ragyou that can command or subdue anything composed of Life Fibres. With their Ultima Uniforms and Godrobes disabled, and with the defeated Original Life Fibre pouring itself into Honnouji Academy at Ragyou’s command, this battle is far from finished.
