The tentative JAFWA program for Saturday 16^th June 2012 is below. To be held in the Collins Street Community Center on Collins Street just off Canning Highway in South Perth.

Things of Note:
1) Did anyone clebrate Tanabata last week while JAFWA was on Break?
2) Last session’s Bean Poll was 23 to 3 in favour of retaining “Mouretsu Pirates” in the JAFWA program. Do we need to check to see if we continue showing “Fairy Tail”?
3) JAFWA’s AGM will be held during the afternoon of August 25. After which you shall obey your new overlords.
3a) During the evening of August 25, we will be auctioning off the complete set of “Black Lagoon” manga (in English), so bring plenty of money for bids.
4) Remember to rug up, as our Hall does not have a lot of heating.

Dale’s Suggestive Remarks, based on suggestion sheets handed in at JAFWA:
Long time member Greg e-mailed in a Suggestion in early July:

I have not watched much of Mawaru Penguindrum and Another, but from what I have seen you should show Mawaru Penguindrum which has no ratings issues I know of before “Another” which is a horror mystery murder story I believe.

Back when we first previewed “Mawaru Penguindrum” at JAFWA, one of our committee members who had not previously seen the episode would later complain that it had completely suss scenes that would be inappropriate for the family audience that we are trying to encourage. During the committee meeting review afterwards the majority of committee members were argued into believing that it was possible that parental types unused to anime and escorting young adults to JAFWA for the first time might interpret one particular scene as totally inappropriate and sufficient grounds to bring legal action against JAFWA. Thus we have a JAFWA edict commanding that “Mawaru Penguindrum” is not allowed to go on before the Late Break.

This leads me to think that I must be an insensitive male chauvinist pig without empathy, because personally I simply can not see the suss interpretation, and I find that I am opposed in principle to anyone who does interpret things in a way that replaces wonderful with ugly. I thought that particular scene had a sweet chivalric flavour. The only vaguely similar situation I can recall happened so many years ago, back when Totoro first became available to Western audiences, when I simply could not understand why there was a small but vocal group stating that Totoro was ‘obviously’ promoting child porn.
