ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING before JAFWA Screening

This is it!
After announcing it since JAFWA’s return last month, it is finally upon us!

Please be advised that on the 20th of July 2024 the Japanese Animation Fans of Western Australia will be holding it’s 2024 Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Collins Street Centre in South Perth from 2:00pm onwards. The regular screening will commence afterwards, and during the dinner break the committee election will be held. As well as a Special General Meeting.

We request that all current members attend to meet quorum requirements and to have your voices heard! Please arrive about 10 minutes early.

If you have any matters you would like to have raised at the meeting, please email them through to jafwa.anime@gmail.com. Preferably sufficiently in advance so that we can accurately prepare our response.

AGM Adenda item

Fellow JAFWA Member,

The JAFWA Board of Committee formally announces that on 20 July 2024 – the day of the JAFWA 2024 AGM – the Board will propose changes to the JAFWA Constitution and By-Laws to update how the club operates and how the Committee may operate.

The details to be discussed at the AGM are:

  • Changes to the wording of section 8 of the By-Laws regarding the usage of Cheques to move monies of a value of greater than $100, and associated terminology, to be updated to include the electronic transfer of funds and associated terminology; and
  • Clarification as to whom the JAFWA committee may loan monies, the terms of the amount loaned, and instances where said loans require the approval of the JAFWA Membership.

These details will be clarified at the AGM, however to ensure that we have a greater number of members available to vote, the vote will be by SGM to be held at 6:00pm during the dinner break.

Date: 20/07/2024
Time: 6:00pm
Location: Collins Street Centre South Perth

Screening on the evening of Saturday, July 20th 2024, after the AGM

With the necessary AGM business out of the way JAFWA performs its anime screening of goodness. This week we have one more OAV episode of “Non Non Biyori nonstop” to help the passing of this slice of life anime.
Also, our first preview episode of July. Remember the old sentai shows, where 5 or so heroes are empowered as Rangers to defeat the alien overlords, their disposable minions and the monster of the week? How it would go on and on. And how after 13 years one of the disposable minions seeks to upset the status quo, by sneaking off and transforming into the most despicable monster of all…

!

Go Go Loser Ranger

Now hopefully there will be enough nominees for the JAFWA annual election to be held during the Dinner Break of our beloved JAFWA screening this week. But things are not looking promising, so the AGM is going to move for an SGM during the Dinner Break. Only signed up JAFWA members can vote in the AGM, so we will be providing voting tokens valid voters.

For those of you who are interested, the Japanese Film Festival has gone from showing a series of Japanese movies online, to now showing TV episodes.

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay did in March, and the one coming in November, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan in advance please.

And there is the end of year irregular screening to consider. What do you want to see in it?

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favorite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode:Thornapple

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact with which Kraft Lawrence is well acquainted. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, cart, and whatever wares have come his way, the peddler has pretty well settled into his routine—that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess asleep in his cart. She strikes up a bargain with the merchant to lend him the cunning of “Holo the Wisewolf” to increase his profits in exchange for taking her along on his travels. Lawrence soon learns, though, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a bit of a mixed blessing.

Tonight’s Episode:Scale of God and Sorcerer of the Grasslands

A flock of sheep would be easy prey for a wolf pack but for the attention of the shepherdess. Meanwhile Lawrence and Holo reach the town of Poroson, where the religious preach frugality. Holo is directed by delicious food but can still detect a scam. Next onto the city of Ruvinheigen, named after a Saint that Holo recalls biting. There is no love lost between wolf and shepherd.

He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.

However, it is revealed that this was all staged. In reality, the Dragon Keepers beat the invaders within the first year they arrived.
