Make certain you leave the Perth Japan Festival in plenty of time to get to JAFWA’s screening this week.
Or perhaps we should say JAFWA hosts Lindsay McLennan’s favourite anime this week.

Yes, you heard right. Long-time member Lindsay McLennan has taken advantage of the long standing opportunity for a member to sponsor a night of anime. Something to do with celebrating the round-figure (but in decimal, not binary or hexadecimal) anniversary of when he first wore his birthday suit, and thus he has supplied the anime episodes, paid forth the monies and twisted the right arms to make this his night. Come and celebrate it with him! (there might even be a suggestion of cake)

Assemble Insert

A criminal group known as Demon Seed terrorizes Tokyo with its vast armies of mecha. The local police is afraid to confront them, but one person stands in their way: Maron Namikaze, a 13-year-old idol singer with a catchy voice and unbelievable superhuman strength.

What do you do when a villainous group with mecha terrorise your city? Hold a talent show to discover your next hero! A lighthearted look as a young girl gifted with superhuman strength is “recruited” to fight the bad guys when all she wants to be is a pop idol.

Moldiver

Hiroshi Ozora invents the Mol Unit, a device that makes its user invincible. His plans of becoming a super hero are short lived however when his sister, Mirai, accidently modifies the suit configuration. Now she is forced to save Tokyo by herself from the evil Machinegal and his gang of all-female androids.

This Evening’s Episode: “Metamorforce!“

A genius creates a super suit, and the younger sister alters the design to look more feminine causing the suit to randomly switch between the two designs when used. Needless to say, things get uncomfortable. Add in an opposing robot force and mix well.

Excel Saga

Hyperactive Excel does anything and everything to try to please her lord, Ilpalazzo, who wants to take over the planet. Excel’s misadventures takes her and her partner, the ever-dying Hyatt, all over the world, meeting several strange people as they go. Everything is bizarre and goofy, as any kind of anime or entertainment genre gets mocked and spoofed.

The cold of Winter causes Saku much distress, so what has happened to that staple of Japanese homes, the electric Kotatsu? Will toe beans ever be warm again? What sort of bribery is needed? But then Saku’s mom sends a care package on the proviso she gets a photo of little Yukichi, but getting a good photo of Yukichi proves difficult.

Bubblegum Crisis

In the near future, Tokyo was left flattened from a great earthquake. A new city, MegaTokyo, was then recreated with the aid of a multi-national company, Genom Corp. Genom created and mass-produced biomechanical creatures called Boomers to aid in the restoration of MegaTokyo. When the Boomers began to run out of control, the ADPolice at first tried to stop them, but they proved to be very difficult to deal with. Under the looming Boomer threat, a group of four girls from varying sections of society banded together. Calling themselves The Knight Sabers, they were the only ones with enough firepower and resourcefullness to defend the fledgling MegaTokyo from Genom and its berserk Boomers.

The Knight Sabres – 4 women in power armour – fight to protect the city of MegaTokyo from Genom Corporation. However other threats to the city occur. What do you do when an inventor with a grudge accidentally creates a car that develops a mind of its own?

Sol Bianca

Five female pirates pilot the Sol Bianca, a starship with a higher level of technology than any other known. With it, they seek out riches, and deal those who wronged them.

An all female group of space pirates find a stowaway on their ship who has information on the treasure from Old Earth. What’s a group of pirates going to do when there’s treasure involved? Go on, guess.

Read or Die

An alternate history world where the British Empire has remained a major superpower. The Empire’s continued existence is guaranteed by the British Library, an external intelligence agency working within the actual British Library and its Special Operations Division. We follow the adventures of Yomiko Readman, also known as “The Paper”, a superhuman agent of the Library’s Special Operations.

Spies with Superpowers. Clones of historical figures turned villains. And an overwhelming urge to protect old books from a conspiracy to destroy the world with music.

Devil Hunter Youko (Mamono Hunter Youko)

Yohko Mono is a regular girl making her way through high school–until she learns that she is the 108th successor to a line of warriors charged with defending the earth against demons. Eventually she must fight her ultimate battle against the demon who started it all.

When devils are on the land, it’s up to the Mano Clan who have been hunters for 107 generations. However the 108th would rather be chasing boys than devils.
