This week JAFWA returns operating in Normal hours! Program starts at 5:15PM!

October is upon us already, as we move to the cooler evening hours. We put behind us the disappointment of the cancelled Bunnings Sausage Sizzle, and march into a healthier, anime-filled future.
Bear with us, as we are in the process of re-arranging the program due to the Bean Poll on the fate of our retro series “City Hunter”. Of the people who voted:

1. 9 votes – Do away with “City Hunter” after this week, and use the emptied timeslot to show extra episodes of our regular items to try and finish by the end of the year.
2. 6 votes – Discontinue screening “City Hunter” after this week, and find another retro slot item (probably “El Hazard”).
3. 5 votes – Continue screening “City Hunter” after the Late Break.

This week we will screen a couple of preview episodes to broaden our knowledge of anime released in Japan. The first is desert after Dinner Break and is called “Sweet Reincarnation”, that does involve isekai and OP, as this sort of stuff is just too prevalent in Japan for us to ignore. The second Late-nght preview episode is a ***mystery item***. Come and find out if you dare!

We are trying to fill the program for the final screening of 2023 in December. What do you want to see?
And could I ask you to write down your suggestions so that I don’t lose them this time. (sorry)

Dates of Interest

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• October 16^th to 22^nd 2023 — Japanese Film Festival will be screening in Perth.
• Weekend November 3^rd to 5^th 2023 — Kai-Con 2023.
• Saturday December 9^th 2023 — JAFWA’s final screening for 2023 before we take a holiday. This will be a normal length screening with an irregular program. We request that you, the audience, suggest anime items for inclusion in that night’s program.
• Saturday January 13^th 2024 — JAFWA’s screening resume in 2024.

The Devil is a Part-Timer season 3 (Hataraku Maou-sama)

Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alsiel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances. And now they have to look after a very special child.

This evening’s Episode: “The Hero Dances on the Battlefield”

Suzuno and Albert sneak into HeavenSky castle to rescue the Emperor from the occupying demons, but things do not go according to plan. While Emilia leads the Heroe’s army to fight Demon General Alciel, the cavalry arrives in the form of the Demon King and Acieth Alla on pizza delivery scooters.

Ningen Fushin – aka Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai o Sukuu You Desu)

Veteran adventurer Nick’s life is falling apart. Despite all the knowledge and expertise he’s devoted to his adventuring party, his respected leader kicked him out, his girlfriend dumped him, and his teammates shamelessly accused him of embezzlement. Tired, heartbroken, and looking for a drink, Nick chances upon a few kindred spirits who are jaded as he is. Together, these disillusioned adventurers form an unstoppable team out to save their bleak, depressing world.

This evening’s Episode: “Survivors VS Stepping Man”

The Survivors confront Stepping Man and break his illusions with his name, Dr. Nalgava. His obsession with curing Yellow Demon Sickness began when his own daughter died of it. The sickness is usually sexually transmitted, so after she died Nalgava went mad with the rumours of how his daughter became infected. By experimenting on kidnapped children Nalgava has proven it can also be transmitted from contact with infected blood.

Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.

Tonight’s Episode: “Conscience does make cowards of us all. I”

Lucy remains in a coma. Chise replaces Lucy’s magic with her own. Concerned about her arm Chise visits Cartaphilus who assures her killing to protect herself is natural, but is gleeful Chise has started down a dark path. Lucy’s brother Seth visits, and Lucy awakens from dreams of a massacre, and spiders. Philomena asks Chise to be friends. College librarians discover a forbidden book has been replaced with a forgery, a Grimoire so dangerous reading the words can kill the reader.

preview – Sweet Reincarnation (Okashi na Tensei)

Pastry Mille Morteln, age 9, is both his father’s heir and the reincarnation of an unfulfilled pastry chef. While he dreams of a land filled with sweet treats, there’s a lot to be done first. From learning how to fight, to controlling his new magical talents and doing his best to defend his village from bandits, and yet all he really wants to do is bake the perfect apple pie… Pastry Mille Morteln has his work cut out for him.

This evening’s Episode: “Dreaming of a Land of Sweets”

During the world champion sweet making competition, a famous sweet maker is accidentally crushed by his own candy statue. Full of regret he never became the worlds greatest sweet maker he is given a second chance by a goddess who reincarnates him into an alternate world as Pastry Mille Morteln, son of minor lord Casserole and his wife Agnes. Pastry retains his passion for sweets but their farmlands can only produce wheat and barley, and sugar is an expensive luxury.

Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)

An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Gloomy Song ”

Belmeria tries to convince Prospera to stop seeking revenge for the Vanadis massacre, but the latter brushes her off. Later, she does a physical check-up on Elan-04 where it’s revealed that he also serves as a body-double for the real Elan Ceres, Peil Technologies’ successor, and that his body can only survive the strain of one more battle. Earth House builds a flight unit for the Aerial to help Suletta in her upcoming duel against Elan-04.

Jujutsu Kaisen season 2

Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were not always enemies. Long before they had what was supposed to be their final encounter during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, the pair were fellow students, rivals, and friends. In another world, they would have been the twin shining stars of Jujutsu Sorcery, but one fateful event destroyed any hope of that ever happening. Turn back the clock to witness the mission that drove them to curse one another beyond even death.

Tonight’s Episode “It’s Like That” season 2

Aoi Todo and Mei Mei suggest to the Jujutsu higher-ups for Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushigoro, Nobara Kugisaki, Maki Zen’in, and Panda to be promoted to first-grade jujutsu sorcerer, meaning they will be assigned various missions to earn this title. Shortly afterwards, Yuji’s class meet up with Utahime to discuss the traitor within Jujutsu High who has been working with the cursed spirits she has narrowed down: Mechamaru.

In/Spectre season 2 (Kyokou Suiri)

When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He’s surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.

This evening’s Episodes: “The Silenced Children”

The 3 heirs of the Otonashi Group struggle to determine how the family patriarch murdered his wife Sumi and got away with it. All the while the Goddess of Wisdom Kotoko acts as arbitrator and coach. The heirs quickly come to an agreement, but then Kotoko “helps” – long hidden secrets will be revealed instead.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!)

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “I Am…”

Zenon identifies Cid as the one behind recent attacks on the cult and announces himself as one of the cult’s core members. The demon girl rampages through the city and fights Princess Iris. Alpha reveals herself to Iris as a member of Shadow Garden, defeats the demon with a single powerful blow, then vanishes. Cid duels Zenon and dominates him; Princess Alexia, who has no idea that Shadow is Cid in disguise, is captivated by his sword style, which expresses the heart of the style she has searched for her entire life.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Pain” season 2

Ketil’s recruits are no match for the experienced Jomsvikings, and Snake calls for a retreat. Ketil stands transfixed by the poor defense and is quickly felled with an axe. At that moment, Thorgil rushes from the beach to kill Canute, but the king protects himself long enough for Wulf to return from the battle. Meanwhile, Arnheid regains consciousness long enough to say goodbye.
