Event Afternoon before JAFWA Screening

JAFWA has the hall from about 12PM to ~3:45PM, where it is make our own amusement time.

Does anyone want hall space for nerf gun battles? Bring your own ping-pong? Table top games? Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen. I am not certain we have access to the outdoor area, but we will try to keep you off the street.
In the past people have brought along video games and the hardware to play them, and sewing machines for cosplay creating. What do you want to do? Just so long as it fun, legal, ethical, and we don’t scuff the floor of the Hall.

After the Event Afternoon

This week JAFWA continues our programs of regular series of anime goodness, to warm the otaku soul. This week people will be saddened/overjoyed to know we are screening the last episode of the second season of “Legend of the Galactic Heroes”. You may regain hope/despair, for there is more series of “Legend of the Galactic Heroes” that can be shown if enough interest is raised.
And we will attempt to gauge your interest this week with our monthly survey (to be held during the Dinner Break), where you can show us on via scalar measurements the popularity of the shows JAFWA that shows. And later, we have the monthly Member’s Prize Draw. Yay!

And then in July it will be time for the AGM and JAFWA elections, with nominations opening in June. Isn’t it time you stepped up and participated?

It may be of interest to our members, but Luna Leederville cinemas has introduced Monday Double Features, which includes a couple of Mondays with anime. (Monday April 17 was “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “Princess Mononoke”, June 12 is “Akira” and “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train”)

Do It Yourself (Yofukashi no Uta)

Serufu Yua (pronounced “yourself”) is a laid back first year high-school student, very accident-prone and is known for having a perfect attendance record at the nurse’s office. She fails to get into Yuyu Girls’ Vocational High School for technology with her best friend Miku Suride, instead getting into the lower class Gatagata Girls’ High School. But there is a student club that may catch her attention.

This evening’s Episodes: “‘DIY’ Means… Rock Bottom? Impossible? With Courage and Drive, Anything is Possible!”

With the DIY Club in a funk upon learning that a scheduling error led to their materials being mistaken for industrial waste and disposed of, Miku goes to cheer Serufu up and suggest an alternative way to gather materials. The next day, Serufu and the others, who all had the same idea, put up flyers and ask around the neighborhood for any unwanted materials.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.

This evening’s Episode: “Eyes of Science ”

The existence of Why-Man is heavily debated as he may be a new enemy. Senku immediately crafts Scientific Eyes, using glass coated in Sphalerite and the electricity channelling power of crystals he creates a rudimentary Cathode-ray tube television screen, which when connected to the radio tower becomes a radar/sonar to accurately pinpoint targets over vast distances, even underwater.

Bocchi the Rock

Extremely anxious and socially awkward Hitori Gotou longs to become a rock musician in spite of her struggles, whilst fulfilling her desires to one day make friends. She is even given a chance to do so after she is taken in by Nijika Ijichi to become a member of the newly formed Kessoku Band.

This evening’s Episode: “Enoshima Escar”

At the end of summer vacation, Bocchi is utterly depressed and disappointed over the fact that none of the bandmates invited her out like typical high schoolers should, so they invite her to the Enoshima coast out of pity to make memories. But their excursion leads to several mishaps.

retro item – Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki second series

Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko, from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.

Tonight’s episode: “I Love Tenchi ”

Ryoko accidentally damages a robe that belonged to Tenchi’s late mother. When Tenchi yells at her, he accidentally upsets Ryo-Ohki as well. The heartbroken Ryo-Ohki sulks in Washu’s laboratory, where her emotions affect a colony of shape-shifting creatures.

Kaina of Great Snow Sea (Ooyuki umi no Kaina )

In a world where land is being swallowed by the encroaching Great Snow Sea, humanity ekes out a harsh life above the Tenmaku that stretches from the roots to the tops of giant Orbital Trees. The story centers around Kaina, a boy who lives above the Tenmaku, and Liliha, the princess of the small country Atland in the Great Snow Sea.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Fortress Nation”

Kaina, Ririha, and Yaona explore Valghia, and see that most of the city is an impoverished slum where the citizens are struggling to survive amid water shortages. When they let their guard down, most of their belongings are stolen by a gang of children, including a young girl named Chiru who steals Ririha’s necklace, attempting to trade it for water.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) second season

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “My Friend” 2nd series finale

Yang Wen-li does not enjoy the consequences of saving the Free Planets Alliance from the dissidents, as President Trunicht resumes power. But then the great Imperial Admiral Merkatz defects to the Free Planets Alliance. The politicians are wary of Yang. And in the Empire, Lohengramm’s new order comes to fruition. So many have have fallen to bring our heroes to the fore.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episode “Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 3 –”

Kasumi is beaten by Maki after underestimating her lack of cursed energy. Nobara fights Momo but just as she is about to win, she is knocked out by a round from Mai’s revolver. Maki faces off with her sister, as flashbacks reveal the suffering that the twins went through in the Zenin clan.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “One and only”

Mikey loses interest in the fight and declares it to be over after defeating Hanma. He begins to brutally beat Kazutora. In the middle of this, Baji approaches Mikey and Kazutora and stabs himself to absolve Kazutora the responsibility of his death.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Spoiled Rich Kid” season 4

In a flashback to Kagoshima many years earlier, the young Otonoshin Koito, a naval cadet and second son of the wealthy Naval commander Heiji Koito, crashes into Tsurumi with his new motorized tricycle. Tsurumi chases Koito and teaches the young man a lesson in humility. After many adventures, including when Tsurumi rescues him from kidnappers, Koito attends the army officer’s school, and after graduation he joins Tsurumi in 7th Division. Koito briefly encounters Hyakunosuke Ogata who refers to him as a “barchonok”, Russian for a spoiled rich kid.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Path of Blood” season 2

As King Canute marches ahead of his troops in the war against Ethelred II for the throne of England, he recalls the time when Askeladd killed King Sweyn, making Canute the new king of Denmark. Canute greets Floki on his way to accept the surrender of Earl Eadric of Mercia when Thorkell appears, angry at not being allowed to sever Eadric’s head.
