The month of April draws to an end, the last date that JAFWA will be screening on normal hours is upon us! From next month JAFWA will be operating 1 hour earlier.
So time your return from Hoshi Con 2023 wisely.

Once more it is time for the monthly JAFWA Member’s Prize. Please attend in order to receive it promptly should you be drawn as our fortunate winner. (every attendance this month improves your chance)
Also of importance this week, is our monthly survey to see what anime is popular at JAFWA. Please fill in each of the scalar ranked survey forms (one for current shows, the other for previewed epsiodes) and bias JAFWA’s future programming direction.

It may be of interest to our members, but Luna Leederville cinemas has introduced Monday Double Features, which includes a couple of Mondays with anime. (Monday April 17 was “Howl’s Moving Castle” and “Princess Mononoke”, June 12 is “Akira” and “Demon Slayer: Mugen Train”)

The next fundraising for JAFWA at Cannington Bunnings sausage sizzle is scheduled for Saturday May 6^th, and we would appreciate a volunteer or 3 as spares to help out, in case any of our current volunteers need to withdraw.

Do It Yourself (Yofukashi no Uta)

Serufu Yua (pronounced “yourself”) is a laid back first year high-school student, very accident-prone and is known for having a perfect attendance record at the nurse’s office. She fails to get into Yuyu Girls’ Vocational High School for technology with her best friend Miku Suride, instead getting into the lower class Gatagata Girls’ High School. But there is a student club that may catch her attention.

This evening’s Episodes: “‘DIY’ Means You Can Do Things Inside If It’s Hot and Muggy Out”

With the rainy season making it too hot and humid to work in the clubroom, Rei invites the others to her house at the Waku Waku Wan Wan hardware store so they can continue their work, to produce salable items for fundraising.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.

This evening’s Episode: “Greed Equals Justice ”

Senku reveals they have run out of revival-fluid, but Ryusui correctly deduces that journalist Minami hid one person’s worth of fluid, so Gen makes a secret deal with her to get it back. At Ryusui’s direction they locate and revive Francois, Ryusui’s own butler/chef. To fulfil Minami’s deal, Senku, working with Kaseki and Chrome, recreates a Daguerreotype, the worlds first primitive camera.

Bocchi the Rock

Extremely anxious and socially awkward Hitori Gotou longs to become a rock musician in spite of her struggles, whilst fulfilling her desires to one day make friends. She is even given a chance to do so after she is taken in by Nijika Ijichi to become a member of the newly formed Kessoku Band.

This evening’s Episode: “Eight Views”

Bocchi faces a difficult task after realizing that the only people close to her who can buy her tickets are her parents; her pride prevents her from asking for their help to sell the others. As she sits in a park in a state of melancholy, an alcoholic woman, Kikuri Hiroi, stumbles by, leading to some useful social interaction.

retro item – Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki

Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko, from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.

Tonight’s episode: “The Night Before the Carnival ”

Life after the Kagato incident is still chaotic at the Masaki household. Ayeka, helped by Washu, plants a replacement Ryu-Oh seedling to grow a new ship. Ryoko and Ayeka, spurred on by reading romantic comic books, try out all kinds of methods of winning Tenchi’s love. Resolving to get the competition out of the way, they trick Mihoshi into leaving and lock Washu away. Then they just have to deal with each other.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) second season

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Fall of Goldenbaum”

Within the Galactic Empire, Siegfried Kirchies returns to his friend Reinhard von Lohengramm, but the nuclear annihilation on Westerland causes tension between them. The final days of the noble’s less-than-competent coalition is upon them, as Reinhard cleans up. It is merely a matter of how the nobles will accept their defeat.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episode “Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event – Group Battle 0 –”

Geto schemes his next move with Jogo, who has regained his body, and Mahito. Geto declares that they will continue trying to find all of Sukuna’s fingers to fully release him, starting by ambushing Tokyo Jujutsu Tech. The Kyoto class arrives for the exchange event, and Yuji reveals his survival after two months, to his friends’ shock.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “Open Fire”

Draken explains that Kazutora killed Baji during their gang war on October 31, 2005, known as Bloody Halloween. Which leads to Tokyo Manji Gang losing the fight, absorbed into Valhalla, which subsequently became a crime organization, with Mikey and Kisaki acting as its leaders. Takemichi returns to the past to confront Baji with Chifuyu, but Baji swears his loyalty to Valhalla.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Cocoon” season 4

Ushiyama regains some level of consciousness while buried in a coffin, but is still effected by Sekiya’s combined fugu and datura poisons. He breaks out, and outdoors he rescues Chiyotarou, the Ainu skating boy of a wealthy family. Meanwhile, Sekiya sends Hijikata’s katana to Kadokura with a provocative message stating that he has kidnapped Hijikata who is still in a coma caused by fugu poison.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ketil’s Farm” season 2

Ketil assigns Einar and Thorfinn to work together to clear a forest and plant and harvest grain for which he offers to buy at a fair price. If they work hard, he suggests that they can buy their freedom. However, Einar finds the reality is that they work hard, get little food to eat and are exploited by Ketil’s retainers. Thorfinn communicates little, and his spirit appears completely broken, but there are stirrings.
