Event Afternoon before JAFWA Screening

JAFWA has the hall from about ~1PM to 4:30PM, where it is make our own amusement time.

Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen. I am not certain we have access to the outdoor area, but we will try to keep you off the street.
In the past people have brought along video games and the hardware to play them, and sewing machines for cosplay creating. What do you want to do? Just so long as it fun, legal, ethical, and we don’t scuff the floor of the Hall.

Screening on the evening of Saturday, November 26^th 2022

The month of November seems to be so busy with events for the fannish minded. Last weekend’s big event was the [ KaiCon ] Kaiga Anime Convention 2022 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, later this week is the start of the Japanese Film Festival, and this Saturday JAFWA is hosting an Event afternoon of make your own fun. This weekend is also the closest screening to the 32^nd birthday of JAFWA. Maybe I will bring sushi to celebrate!

On a somewhat somber note – this is JAFWA’s last regular screening of the year. We will be finishing two regular series, and holding a survey to help decide what the program will be when we resume regular screening in January.
Also, this is the last opportunity to put in requests for the special screening of December 10^th.

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• November 26^th 2022 — JAFWA’s 32^nd birthday, and Event Afternoon.
• Sunday November 27^th 2022 — Collectors Zone Toy and Hobby Fair at ECU Sports Fitness Centre, Joondalup.
• Saturday December 10^th 2022, 5:15PM to 10:30PM — JAFWA’s final screening of the year. Will be a non-regular program, so we are taking suggestions for what one-off items you want to be screened that night.
• Saturday January 14^th 2023 — as the Solstice festivities wane, JAFWA returns for a new year!

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! (Hataraku Maou-sama!) season 2

Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alciel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances.

This evening’s Episode: “The Hero Helps the Devil Reequip His Workplace”

As the beach fog begins to pick up, Amane leaves to take the girls to their inn while the boys head to their room. They start to hear noises and shadowy figures outside, discovering them to be a cyclops and minotaur. Before they can learn more the two demons are swallowed up a tornado. Another demon then appears, who Maou recognizes as Camio, the general he left in charge of his forces in the demon realm when he invaded Ente Isla.

Spy x Family part 2

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “Yor’s Kitchen / The Informant’s Great Romance Plan”

Worried about losing her family, Yor seeks help from Camilla to improve her cooking and learns how to cook a stew from her childhood. However, after cooking for Loid and Anya, Yor realizes she has grown fond of them. Franky falls in love and requests Loid’s help. Despite rehearsing his confession, he is rejected and Loid cheers him up at the bar, reminding him that they cannot have relationships anyway due to the nature of their profession.

Ascendance of a Bookworm (Honzuki no Gekokujuu) season 3

The story follows Motosu Urano, a book-loving post-secondary student and soon-to-be librarian who ends up crushed to death beneath a pile of books during an earthquake. With her dying breath, she wishes to be reincarnated in a world where she can read books forever. Urano awakens in the body of a weak, five-year-old girl named Myne in a world where books are scarce and only available to elites. Myne, retaining her memories from her previous life, decides to create and print her own books so that she can read again.

This evening’s Episode: “Spring Prayer”

The eccentric blue-haired priest Sylvester is to accompany Main to Spring Prayer, though he more wishes to tease her, with the dangers that incurs. Main finally gets to see the results of her offerings, and how people live outside the city. But as she travels from town to town, threats both mundane and magical imperil her.

Shadow’s House season 2

In a Western-style mansion on a cliff lives the aristocratic, faceless Shadow family. They live together with lifelike doll attendants who serve as their faces. After finishing their “debut,” Kate, Emilico and three other pairs who started with them begin a new life as adults. With the mystery of the “Shadows House” still unsolved, a new incident occurs in the children’s wing. Kate and Emilico, whom the Star Bearers suspect of being malcontents, investigate a mysterious robed Shadow who may be the culprit.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Answer of the Two ” and “Those Who Fight Back ” (final)

Kate and Emilico are asked to accompany Barbara and the Star Bearers as they escort Rosemary and Maryrose to the adults’ wing for their punishment. Barbara recalls her childhood, during which Christopher and his living doll Anthony were beloved by the residents of the children’s wing. When Christopher was invited to the adults’ wing, Maryrose abruptly ceased contact with Barbara.
Edward realizes the blame for Maryrose and Rosemary’s final answer falls on him. Kate returns to her room where awaits a hooded Anthony with whom they have a long conversation. On another day, Emiliko questions the Shadows House routine after waking from a dream that was a memory of before her current life. Kate’s promotion irks other shadows.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun (Made in Abyss: Retsujitsu no Ougonkyou) season 2

An orphan girl named Riko who lives in the town of Ousu on an island in the sea of Beoluska. The city surrounds a strange, giant hole going deep into the earth, which is commonly called the Abyss. The Abyss harbours artefacts and remnants of a civilisation long gone, and is therefore the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descends into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find. However, the deeper one goes into the Abyss, the more one is afflicted by a progressively fatal malady called the Curse of the Abyss; few who have descended into the lower regions have returned to tell of their experiences.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Cradle of Desire ”

Vueko begins to recount her time with Ganja after arriving at the Sixth Layer. Realizing that they cannot return to the surface, they resolve themselves to survive in this new environment. Vueko establishes a parent-like connection with the young tribe girl named Irumyuui, who tells her that she was deemed a curse by her family for being infertile, leading to her exile. With time, the Ganja successfully find a water source and learn the means to survive in the Sixth Layer, living comfortably in their new home. However one day, Vueko finds Irumyuui and several Ganja severely sick.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) season 2

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a fantasy world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers.

Tonight’s Episode: “Flowers Offered in Recollection” finale

Naofumi, Raphtalia, Filo, and Rishia go out to travel early one morning. While taking a rest stop to fish, Filo laments no longer being able to fly like she could in the other world. Raphtalia and Rishia proceed to reminisce about the time when Kizuna initially took them to get new outfits. Noticing Raphtalia wanted to impress Naofumi, Kizuna got Rishia to help her to try on a bunch of different clothes.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “Revive”

Pah-chin fights Osanai in the battle opener, and despite his defeat, the Tokyo Manji Gang overwhelm Moebius. Before the Tokyo Manji Gang leaves, Pah-chin stabs Osanai and turns himself into the police. Mikey and Draken have gotten into a disagreement over how to save Pah-chin, resulting in the gang being divided into two factions. Is the fated factional split that Takemichi came back in time to prevent, doomed to happen?

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Igogusa” season 3

Kiroranke’s group arrives at the location of a Karafuto Ainu village where Asirpa’s father Wilk was born, but they find that it was abandoned during the Japan-Russian war and is now the location of a silver fox farm. Kiroranke and Ogata confirm that Nopperabo was Wilk and that Asirpa has knowledge that can decode the maps tattooed on the prisoners which they must carefully extract from her. Meanwhile, Tsukishima bids farewell to Gansoku and warns Sugimoto never to go berserk again. Tsukishima’s mind drifts back to when he first met Tsurumi while he was on death row in prison for murdering his brutal father.

SummerTime Rendering

Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island.

Tonight’s Episode: “Original”

Shinpei grills Shadow-Mio about her origins and abilities of Shadows. Shadow-Mio is resolute, that she is now on their side. Tokiko is furious, that Mio was copied, unbeknownst to her. The group chooses their next goal, to capture and interrogate Seido Hishigata.
