The month of September continues at JAFWA.
Unfortunately this is the season for farewells, as some of our regular series are finishing. “Steins;Gate” technically finished last week, but we have an epilogue. More people may shed a tear at the conclusion of “Deaimon”. And hopefully not too many tears with “Demon Slayer”.

All this and we fit in a couple of preview episodes.

Japanese Calendars

It is that time of year again – when Japanese calendars for 2023 go on pre-order. If I (the JAFWA MC) get enough interest, I will probably order from here. It is very early yet, so only a small number of calendars have been listed so far. The link I gave pointed to only Anime calendars, but the left menu shows other categories if you are interested.
This site may be slightly more up-to-date in titles being listed.

The Australian dollar is not buying much these days, but if we bundle our orders together, we should be able to get cheaper shipping rates. And if we order very soon, we may get pre-order discounts (eg another site with rather expensive postage rates).

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Dates of Interest

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• May to September 2022 — JAFWA’s Winter hours, where we start (~4:15PM) and finish (~9:45PM), an hour earlier than normal.
• Sept 9^th to 17^th 2022 — South West Festival of Japan 2022 at Bunbury Regional Art Gallery.
• Wednesday 21^st September 2022, 4PM to 7PM — JSS Matsuri 2022. Located at UWA – Oak Lawn (free entry), the Japanese Studies Society (JSS) is holding their annual Matsuri.
• October 2022 onwards — JAFWA’s returns to normal hours, where we start (~5:15PM) and finish (~10:45PM), an hour later than Winter.
• Saturday October 1^st 2022, 10AM to 4PM — Tokyo Alley is holding their second mini-event Tokyo Market. Free entry to Citiplace Community Cebtre just outside Perth Train station.
• Saturday October 1^st 2022, 5PM to 10PM — Anime on Show at the Guildford Twilight Market. Located at Stirling Square, just past the Guildford Train Station.
• October 8^th 2022, 9AM to 12 Midday — Nexus Toy Fair at Leisurelife Centre, 34 Kent St, East Vic Park.
• October 15^th and 29^th 2022, 10AM to 4PM — Kai-con’s Artist Market. Free entry to Citiplace Community Centre just outside Perth Train station.
• Saturday November 5^th 2022, 9AM to 4PM — JAFWA fund raising Bunnings sausage sizzle at Cannignton Bunnings. Volunteers requested.
• November 5^th and 6^th 2022, 9AM to 5PM — Anime in the Valley. Located at the Swan Settlers Market in Herne Hill. Free entry.
• November 19^th to 20^th 2022, 10AM to 6PM — [ KaiCon ] Kaiga Anime Convention 2022 at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Log Horizon series III – Destruction of the Round Table

It’s been a year since Shiroe and his friends were trapped in Akiba due to the Catastrophe. Their forging of the Round Table has brought order and prosperity to its people. But fracturing political alliances and the constant menace of the Genius monsters threaten to destabilize all they’ve fought for and built.

This evening’s Episode: “Adoration”

Shiroe and the others decide to give shelter to the Mofur sisters after learning of Ereinus’ impending threat from them. With their level high enough to participate in raids, the junior members of Log Horizon begin training with their seniors, while Minori tries to get closer to Shiroe. Meanwhile, Rayneshia discusses with Misa and Rieze the details of their expedition to the Chinese server in order to rescue Crusty.

Spy x Family

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “The Counter-Secret Police Cover Operation”

In the evening of the next day, Yuri, who secretly works for the Ostanian State Security Service (SSS), visits Yor after interrogating a WISE informant from within the City Council. Yuri, who is heavily attached to Yor and finds it hard to accept her marriage, barrages Loid with questions in the hope of catching him off-guard. An inebriated Yuri then requests that the couple kiss in front of him after seeing them act uncomfortable from touching hands, threatening to annul their marriage if they fail to do so.

Deaimon

Nagomu is a man who left his home in Kyoto and his family’s confectionery shop when he became a musician. Upon hearing that his father has been hospitalized though, he comes back home to take over the family business. However, while he was gone, a young girl named Itsuka started working at the shop. The whereabouts of Itsuka’s parents is unknown, and she has no other relatives, and Nagomu finds himself as foster parent for Itsuka. Itsuka, on the other hand, dislikes Nagomu for abandoning the family to become a musician. She proclaims that it will be her who will take over the shop one day instead of Nagomu.

Tonight’s Episode: “Red Sea Bream for a Spring Dawn” finale

Itsuka’s birthday approaches, meaning she must keep her promise to spend the day with Nagomu. The Ryokushou employees decide to make her cake from wagashi. A Hanami festival is also approaching so Heigo plans to make Sakuramochi and is impressed when Nagomu suggests edible gold leaf. Heigo also notices Nagomu has stopped making mistakes and so he starts teaching him more closely.

These are peaceful days, thanks to a secret crime-fighting organization of all-girl agents: Lycoris. The elite free-spirited Chisato is their all-time strongest agent, alongside the coolheaded talented-but-mysterious Takina. Working together at a café, they serve coffee and sweets as well as childcare, shopping, and teaching Japanese. The chaotic everyday lives of this mismatched duo begin.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Easy Does It ”

Behind Japan’s prolonged period of peace, lies the intelligence organization “DA”, which employs young orphaned girls known as “Lycoris” to covertly eliminate criminals and terrorists. Lycoris Takina Inoue is dismissed from the DA and partnered with Chisato Nishikigi after disobeying orders, risking the life of fellow Lycoris Erika. She reports to one of DA’s front operations, Café LycoReco, run by its owner Mika and former DA agent Mizuki Nakahara.

Steins; Gate

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that an international organization is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab members.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Egoistic Poriomania ” finale

Two months after the main storyline, Rintaro, Daru, Mayuri, and Luka are invited by Faris to come to Los Angeles, where she will participate in a Rai-Net tournament, reuniting with Kurisu upon their arrival. Due to Rintaro’s cancellation of Faris’s hotel reservations for them as a result of his ego, the group ends up checking into a motel.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 2

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Never Give Up ” and “No Matter How Many Lives ” Entertainment District arc finale

Surviving his fall, Tanjiro finds Nezuko’s box, relieved she is safe. Gyutaro arrives, mocking his inability to defend her and his friends and slamming him around the burning city. With Tanjiro at his mercy, Gyutaro proposes he become a demon, willing to spare him; Tanjiro responds by head-butting him, simultaneously stabbing him with a poisoned kunai. Immobilizing Gyutaro, he attempts his Hinokami Kagura once more to behead him. And Nezuko sill has her Blood Demon Art.

preview item – Call of the Night (Yofukashi no Uta)

Nanakusa is a vampire. That’s okay with human Ko. He wants to be one too. But transformation doesn’t come that easily. When Nazuna invites Ko to spend the night at her place in an abandoned building, he awakens to kisses on his neck with a little too much bite to them. Then, when a cute girl from Yamori’s past shows up and competes for his attention, his budding relationship with the undead is put to the test.

This evening’s Episodes: “Night Flight”

After rejecting a classmate’s love confession, 14 year old Ko Yamori becomes increasingly depressed. Unable to sleep at night, he takes to wandering the streets at night. He meets with a beautiful girl named Nazuna, who identifies his night time restlessness as lack of satisfaction with life and decides to help him find it again.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Blue Eyes” season 2

A locust swarm separates Asirpa and Inkarmat from the group, where Asirpa questions Inkarmat about her father. Inkarmat says that Asirpa’s father is Wilk, a Polish-Ainu man with blue eyes who was killed by Kiroranke. Elsewhere, the men cook sea otter meat given to Inkarmat and Tanigaki, and become aroused from its aphrodisiac effects.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part B

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Retrospective”

The engineers inform Hange’s group that it will take at least half a day to get the flying boat ready. They realize that it will be too late to save Liberio at the Wall Titans’ pace. Kiyomi suggests they can leave by ship and take the boat to the Marleyan coastland city of Odiha, where the Azumabito own a hangar. Magath rushes Kiyomi and the engineers to the dock while Annie and Reiner use their Titans to protect them along with the ship from Floch and the Jaegerists.
