Screening on the evening of Saturday, January 15^th 2022

Hoping you enjoyed being eased back into JAFWA after New Year’s break. From this week onwards, we intend to resume our normal 5:15PM start of screening. See you Saturday!

JAFWA’s screening this week will be at our normal start time ~5:10PM, and we will have a full program.
This will include a preview episode, because Japan keeps creating goodanime. Also the retro series people voted most for starts this week. And to finish it off, another new series starts this week. This does mean that “Fena:Pirate Princess” will be knocked out longer than most people hope for.

Excitement is growing over the new Mamoru Hosoda anime “Belle“, soon to appear at the cinema.

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Fruits Basket – final season

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when stressed or grasped by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “Goodbye ” season 3

Kyo meets Tohru after she is discharged from hospital and they finally confess their love for each other. As the two embrace, the truth behind the zodiac curse is revealed before it is finally broken.

Shadows House (Shadoo Hausu)

In a grandiose and dark mansion, the denizens of the Shadow House live, attended by their Living Doll partners who endlessly clean the soot their masters emit. Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, is delighted to start serving her mistress Kate. As the two grow closer and are slowly exposed to various events within the House, they start to discover a number of dark secrets.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Dark Drink”

After noticing the change in Emiliko, Kate reads the girl’s notebook and takes action to bring her back to her normal self. The elder Shadows visit a nearby village and the origins of living dolls are revealed. When Emiliko vanishes, Kate goes to John who ends up fighting with Shaun. Later the co-debutantes meet and Louise reveals the identity of Emiliko’s abductor.

Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokuduu) season 2

The Western Restaurant Nekoya is a restaurant situated in a mundane corner of an undisclosed Tokyo shopping district which offers a lot of Japanese versions of Western dishes. It opens during usual business hours but is closed during holidays and weekends. But secretly it is also open on Saturdays, as on this particular day it creates doorways to another world inhabited by elves, dragons, animal men and other fantastic creatures, who enter the restaurant and partake of its exotic food, with many of them becoming regular patrons. But while Nekoya mainly offers food, it is also a place where relationships are forged, inspirations made, and salvation for the needy is provided.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Beefsteak / Cream Puff ”

On the run from her father’s wrath, Juliette, a recently created vampire, and her undead love Romero flee into a cave, where a Nekoya door grants them a temporary refuge and the opportunity to taste beefsteak of a quality they have never encountered before. After another visit to the Nekoya, Princess Adelheid invites her personal servant Hannah to a treat of cream puffs and coffee she has received there.

The Far Eastern Special Administrative Region, also known as the 24th Ward, is a man-made island that sits in Tokyo Bay. Shuta, Ran, and Koki were born and raised on the island. Their family backgrounds, preferences, and personalities are completely different, but they are childhood friends who have always stuck together. However, one incident changed their relationship forever. A year afterward, the three friends are reunited by chance at a memorial service held for the incident. All three of their phones suddenly ring simultaneously. Their friend, who is supposed to be dead, is calling and demands that they make a decision about the future.

In a slightly different world, three unlikely friends are driven apart by a disaster while at high school. But a year later at class reunion, the three of them may yet have a chance to regain the future they have lost, and then some more, as they face the infamous trolley problem.

Steins; Gate

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that an international organization is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab members.

A mad scientist’s paranoid plans come unstuck when a UFO crashes at a time-travel seminar. His ditzy assistant has lost the plot. Then not-stranger Makise Kurisu meets him again, for the first time, only to die suspiciously, in the wrong order. Life is not occurring in the right order. Is Rinatro Okabe/Hououin Kyouma the right mad scientist for the job?

Lupin III part 6

The World’s geatest gentleman thief Lupin III, and cohorts, contending with detective Sherlock Holmes when Lupin becomes the top suspect in the murder of the former’s longtime partner, Dr. Watson. Lupin is also after a treasure hidden by The Raven, a mysterious organization that manipulates the British government from the shadows

Tonight’s Episodes: “Enter Sherlock Holmes ”

Albert d’Andresy, disguised as Lord Faulkner, steals a movie poster from Faulkner’s collection, but he is apprehended by Inspector Lestrade who is assisted by Sherlock Holmes. Holmes has been taking it easy solving low-stake cases, while caring for a schoolgirl named Lily. Albert attempts to escape and is shot, but is rescued by Lupin and his crew, who are investigating the mysterious “Raven” society and their hidden treasure. During the commotion, the poster is cut in half, Lupin’s crew getting one half and the police retrieving the other. Confusion and unexpected links abound.

To Your Eternity (Ri:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) season 2

An omnipotent narrator casts an orb of light to the Earth, watching as this entity copies the shape of a rock and then, many years later, mimics the moss on a rock. When a wolf dies beside the moss, it evolves, taking on the creature’s shape and gaining movement for the first time. As the wolf, the orb observes the dead wolf’s owner, a young man who lives alone on a frozen tundra. The time the orb spends with the boy leaves a mark on the entity as it observes, mimics, and bonds with the boy and then the other creatures it eventually comes across—all while transcending death and living for time immemorial.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Last One”

A mysterious being casts a small white orb unto the Earth. The Orb first takes on the form of a rock that spends an unmeasured amount of time lying there. One day, an injured white wolf collapses on top of the rock. The rock takes on the form of the now-dead wolf and wanders over to an encampment where most of the residents have died except for a cheerful boy. The boy recognizes the wolf and calls out to him as Joann. The boy packs up food and supplies to travel to a “paradise” beyond the mountains where he believes the people of his tribe are waiting,

Vivy – Fluorite Eyes Song

A songstress AI named Vivy is given the mission of making people happy with her songs, and works to one day take the main stage of the amusement park where she works. However, she encounters another AI named Matsumoto who claims to have been sent from 100 years in the future in order to prevent a destructive war between humans and AIs, starting Vivy’s 100-year journey to save the world.

This evening’s Episode: “Vivy Score – Singing From My Heart ”

Five years following the Zodiac Signs Fes, Vivy retired as an idol due to losing her singing voice following Diva’s passing and has now been relegated to a museum attraction. With Ophelia and Antonio’s deaths ruled as a double-suicide and no similar incidents like in the original timeline, along with there being no further missions, Matsumoto decides to investigate Yugo’s anonymous backer, leaving Vivy in solitude. Lacking purpose, she takes up songwriting and spends the next twenty years trying to compose an original piece, which no AI has done before.

Talentless Nana (Munou na Nana)

An academy on an island in unnavigable waters. There, students trained tirelessly to fight back against the enemies of humanity. Nana, a student newly transferred there, also sets out with the intention of eradicating all enemies of humankind.

This evening’s Episodes: “Survival of the Fittest ”

During his search, Kyouya discovers that Nana does not have Kirara’s phone, in which she reveals how she was able to dispose of it while giving herself an alibi at the same time. Nana then claims that she can hear Kirara’s spirit. Michiru later catches Nana off guard, but Nana is able to subdue her. At the cliff, a former student named Jin Tachibana confronts Nana, admitting that he used his talent to transform into Michiru.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re: Life in a Different World from Zero) season 2 part B

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favor, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

This evening’s Episodes: “Otto Suwen / A Reason to Believe”

Otto holds off Garfiel by getting him to chase after him and uses his ability to talk to animals to have them make all sorts of traps. As he runs away, Otto recalls his past growing up as an outcast due to his ability. He was constantly on the move up until he met Subaru after he and his comrades saved him from the Witch Cult. Meanwhile, at the ruin, Emilia demands Subaru reprimand her for running away.
