Screening on Saturday 12^th September 2020

How the year goes so fast. According to the Bureau of Meterology it is now Spring, and JAFWA lifts your heart and soul as the screenings continue.
Thanks to everyone who came to the Bunnings Sausage Sizzle. Somehow the JAFWA effort makes them tastier.

Along with our regular program, we include the puntastic preview episode of another anime produced in Japan, but not yet fitted into the JAFWA program, for your consideration. Please enjoy.

As a side note, quite a few people seem to think 2020 is not a very good year. Be aware that we have entered the new calendar season, and some Japanese calendars have been listed already, such as here and here. Do you want to be cheered up by 2021?

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible second wave of Corona, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
Help would be welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19. Set Up begins ~4:45pm, while the Screening should begin at 5:15pm, or later should the set-up not yet be complete. Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. And we need to wipe the chairs down before they are stacked away.

Fruits Basket (2020 season 2)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

Eizoukan niwa Te o Dasu na! (Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!)

Midori, Tsubame, and Sayaka are an energetic trio of first-year high school girls who come together in the Eizouken (Video Research Club) to turn their anime dreams into a reality. Midori is nervous to create an anime alone. She meets Tsubame who appears to be a well-to-do girl but she really has artistic dreams of being an animator. Midori’s best friend Sayaka has the financial sense to bring the project to fruition and joins the pair on their quest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Hold That Machete Tight! ”

With less than a month to finish their project before presenting it to the Student Council, Kanamori tries to cut down the scope of their anime short while Mizusaki wants to hand-draw every frame and Asakusa wants to add a story. After heated arguments and a failed attempt to loop in the school’s Art Club on drawing backgrounds, Kanamori convinces the other girls to use flat colors and digital photography and animation cheats to save time.

Dr Stone

Typical student Taiju Oki tells his science-loving friend Senku Ishigami that he will confess his feelings to their classmate Yuzuriha Ogawa. He prepares to make his confession to Yuzuriha under a camphor tree on the school grounds, but his attempt is interrupted when a bright light appears in the sky. Taiju pushes Yuzuriha to the tree to protect her as the light petrifies them along with the entire human population. After 3700 years spent trapped in stone, Senku and Taiju are somehow revived from their petrified state six months apart in what they now call the Stone World.

This evening’s Episode: “Stone Wars”

A group of Tsukasa’s army, led by a man named Hyoga, approaches the village and beats down Kinro. With Ginro unwilling to cut down the bridge to the village with Kinro still on it, Senku, with the aid of Gen and Magma, convinces Hyoga’s group that they’ve already produced guns, forcing them to retreat.

Kakushi Goto draws ecchi manga for a living; worried that fact would alienate his new born daughter Hime from him, he swears never to let her find out about his drawing work (kaku shigoto), and it shall remain a secret (kakushi goto).

Tonight’s Episodes: “Secrets / Wishes ”

18-year-old Hime Gotou receives a key to a mysterious and secret building, which is revealed to be a storehouse filled with manga manuscripts written by her father, Kakushi. The current story is set 8 years ago, when Hime was 10 years old. When Hime was born, Kakushi, an ecchi manga writer, vowed never to reveal his job to his daughter for fear of being repulsed by her, going as far as to store his manuscripts faraway, revamp the office building to make it look ordinary, and leave the house in a suit. However, it is never that easy.

Fire Force (En’en no Shouboutai, literally “Blazing Firefighting Corps”)

In the year 198 of the Age of the Sun, Tokyo is a crowded cosmopolis. But the world’s most populous city is threatened by devils that cause people to burst into flame at random. The only ones who can stop it are the Pyrofighters, a team of specialized firefighters. The young Shinra, blessed with the ability to ignite his feet and travel at the speed of a rocket, wants nothing more than to be a hero, and knows that this is the place for him. But he’s not the best at following orders.

Tonight’s Episode: “We Are Family ”

Traitorous captain of the 3rd Company, Dr Giovanni sends the two Knights of the Ashen Flame, Flail and Mirage, to kill everyone at Vulcan’s workshop. He then finds and attacks Shinra who is on lookout in the forest. Giovanni immobilizes Shinra with a massive electric shock and arranges to have him evacuated. Outside the workshop, Arthur takes on his knightly persona and destroys the multitude of Knights of the Ashen Flame.

Isekai Quartet season 2

One day, a magic button suddenly appears. The protagonists in KonoSuba, Overlord, Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil all press the button and move to a parallel world — another brand new isekai — where a new story featuring high school life begins. Now new characters arrive

Tonight’s Episode: “Investigate! First Errand” and “Rise Up! School Festival”

Class 1 will do a school play, so they ask Filo to decide on a theme. She wanders around asking people for suggestions, getting many partisan answers. This leads Class 2 to supsect that a school festival is coming up, wheich Roswaal-sensei confirms and tells them they have to set up a food stand and a school play, promising a reward if they do well, but Ainz points out he didn’t keep his promise during field day. Weiss and Viktoriya set up the food stand and Weiss is happy to finally have chocolate.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Forged Bond ”

Hashira level Demon Slayers Giyuu and Shinobu arrive at Mount Natagumo and split up to cover more ground. Tanjiro and Inosuke’s blades barely scratch Father. The poison has Zenitsu lose the use of his arms and legs when Shinobu suddenly arrives and lands next to him.

Darwin’s Game (Daawinzu Geemu)

17-year old Kaname Sudou accepts an online invitation by a friend to play an app game called Darwin’s Game, unbeknownst to him that it involves a fight between life and death. Those who play the game are given a Sigil, an ability that varies from player to player. Trapped in this game of relentless murder and conquest, Kaname determines to clear the game, and seek out and kill the Game Master.

Tonight’s Episode: “Fragile ”

Ryuji reveals that his brother was killed by Wang and he wants revenge. Kaname’s bluff succeeds as he distracts Wang by making him believe that there is a chance his key leads to the treasure so that he can take the treasure hidden in the coin locker without giving him a chance to react. The treasure is a call from the game master on a smartphone to grant Kaname one wish that is within their power.

Retro – Touhai Densetsu Akagi (Mahjong Legend Akagi)

After a death-defying game of chicken one evening in 1958, Akagi nonchalantly enters a yakuza mahjong parlor to shake the police’s trail. Although he is unfamiliar with the rules of mahjong, his gambling intuition saves a small-time gambler, Nangou, and grants him a seat at the gambling table. Thus begins Akagi’s legend among the Yakuaza as the best player and gambler of Mahjong.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Sign of Rebirth”

Six years after the match between Akagi and Ichikawa, Yasuoka brings a man, claiming he is Akagi, to show to Kawada, the boss of a yakuza group. Although impressed with the man’s abilities, Ishikawa, the only man of Kawada who witnessed that match, is not sure if the man is Akagi.

Vinland Saga

set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Normanni ”

The Danish King, Sweyn Forkbeard, withdraws his troops from England over the winter. With the invasion of England on hold, Askeladd’s band set sail for opportunities in France. They offer their services to the Normans and Thorfinn, now a young man, is sent to negotiate.
