Thanks to everyone who braved the wintery weather to show up. This week we have a preview item that will hopefully lighten the mood, the 2019 remake of the classic “Fruits Basket”.

A reminder that the JAFWA AGM and committee elections are coming up in July. It is officially time to start thinking of your election pitches and how you will overlord it when you get elected to the JAFWA committee.

Also, please raise any issues you think need to be discussed at the AGM via the suggestions sheets, and/or e-mail.

Doukyonin wa Hiza, Tokidoki, Atama no Ue (My Housemate Is on My Lap, But Sometimes, on My Head)

Subaru, a 23-year-old introverted mystery writer, who adopts the cat Haru by chance. While he initially remains distant, they gradually bond with each other. Haru and Subaru rarely understand each other, but their misunderstandings lead to a common goal.

This evening’s Episode: “For You ”

Kawase tells Subaru to get a collar for Haru. Subaru returns to the pet shop to buy a collar, and Nana reminds him that he needs to make a visit to the veterinarian as stray cats usually carry diseases. At the veterinarian, Haru is examined and while waiting for Subaru and she is apparently frightened by the other animals there.

One Punch Man season 2

An increase in villain activity has the Hero Organization worried that the “Earthdoom prophecy” will soon come to pass. In an effort to alleviate the overworked heroes, they turn to villains themselves for help. The decision looks ill-advised as at least one villain is more interested in helping the prophecy along than preventing it. Meanwhile, the invincible Saitama is still bored, trying to find a decent challenge.

This evening’s Episode: “The Martial Arts Tournament ”

Metal Knight tries to defeat Elder Centipede, but fails to even scratch the behemoth monster, while also fending off Garou. We find Metal Bat’s weakness, and Garou gets an offer. Meanwhile, in the Fight Tournament Saitama is introduced to the other contestants, hoping to find somebody challenging.

Preview item – Fruits Basket (2019 remake)

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when touched by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episodes: “I’m Going ”

Tohru Honda, a high school girl living in a tent in the woods, passes by a nearby house where she has an encouter with her classmate Yuki Sohma and meets the house’s owner, Yuki’s cousin Shigure. Yuki then accompanies Tohru to school, where she is harassed by some of Yuki’s admirers until she is saved by her friends Arisa Uotani and Saki Hanajima. Will the Soma’s allow Tohru to live on their land? Can they prevent her from discovering the Soma “curse”?

Sword Art Online: Alicization

Kazuto has been recruited to assist in testing an experimental FullDive machine, Soul Translator (STL), which has an interface that is far more realistic and complex than the previous machine he had played to help develop an artificial intelligence for the Ministry of Defense (MOD) named A.L.I.C.E. He tests the STL by entering a virtual reality cyberspace created with The Seed package, named UnderWorld (UW). In the UW, the flow of time proceeds a thousand times faster than in the real world, and Kirito’s memories of what happens inside are restricted.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Seal of the Right Eye ”

As Kirito explains the truth of the Underworld to Alice, and the truth behind Administrator and the Integrity Knights, Alice is convinced that Kirito is telling the truth. Meanwhile Eugeo wakes up to find himself on the 100th floor, at the mercy of Administrator.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari)

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a parallel world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers. As he little by little gain the trust and gratitude of the people with their heroic actions, Naofumi and his companions work hard to fulfill their mission as saviors of the world, while unraveling its deepest secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “A New Comrade ”

Filo th bird has evolved into a humanoid form, much to everyones’ surprise. Naofumi brings Filo to Erhard the weapon-smith, who sends them to the Dressmaker, who in turn sends them to the Magic Shop Owner to make the magic clothes for Filo. However, the Magic Shop Owner needs a new magic gemstone for her loom, vital to make the magic thread. Somehow Naofumi must battle through.

Yakusoku no Neverland (The Promised Neverland)

Emma is an 11-year-old orphan living in Grace Field House, a small orphanage housing her and her 37 siblings. Life had never been better; with food that tasted gourmet, plush beds, snow-white uniforms, and the love of their “Mother” (the caretaker) Isabella, as well the litany of daily exams that Emma always aced with her two best friends Ray and Norman. The orphans are basically allowed to do whatever they want, except to venture out of the compounds or the gate that connects the house to the outside world. Then she finds out the truth. Determined to break out of Grace Field House, Norman and Emma partner up with Ray to peel away at the façade of the farm and find a way to escape with all their other siblings.

Tonight’s Episode: “131045 ”

Emma and Norman realise that the children are being shipped out based on their age and test scores, and older children with bigger brains are considered higher quality meat. They decide to escape before the next shipment in two months and explore the forest for an escape route. Ray reluctantly agrees to collaborate with them. Later, Mother Isabella introduces a new infant named Carol and an adult helper named Sister Krone

Overlord season 3

With his foundations now set in this new world, the first steps of Ains Ooal Gown’s master plan apparent begin to come to fruition. The value of Carne village and especially the political value of his alter ego Momon are reaffirmed; the “hidden” genius of his actions is continuously met with shock and awe by Demiurge, Albedo, the rest of his guardians, and even Ains himself at his “great wisdom.” His attempts to act in a way befitting the ruler of Nazarick, continuing to further cement his guardian’s loyalty, push him ever further down the path of not-so-intentional world domination. Without human conscience due to being undead, he is motivated only to continue searching for other players from Yggdrasil and to gain power to better protect the children and home of him and his forty former companions. Lord Ains Ooal Gown maintains his mantle of Overlord and leads the Great Tomb of Nazarick unto the world stage, directly into a vicious power struggle between two great empires.

Tonight’s Episode: “Two Leaders ”

Ains’ cunning plan to invite Nfirea and Enri to dinner, starts with Guu’s forces attacking Carne Village. While the goblin troop, allied ogres, and the vigilante committee prepare to defend the village, the remaining villagers take shelter.

Dororo

From Osamu Tezuka’s beloved manga. During the 1470s after the Wars of Onin and Bunmei in the Noto Peninsula of the Hokuriku District, Hyakkimaru, who lacks as much as 48 body parts, obtains a fake body and eliminates 48 monsters that were made from his body to retrieve his missing body parts, and regain his humanity.

This evening’s Episode: “The Story of the Moriko Song, Part 1 ”

Hyakkimaru is having difficulty adjusting to his new hearing when he is suddenly attacked by a huge bird-like monster, and is only saved by the appearance of the monk Biwa-Houshi. The priest tells them that they are in Sakai territory, and they are preparing to march on the Daigo army. The next morning, Hyakkimaru encounters Mio, a young woman singing a beautiful song, but he collapses from his wounds.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 3

Eren and his companions in the 104th are assigned to the newly-formed Levi Squad, whose assignment is to keep Eren and Historia safe given Eren’s newly-discovered power and Historia’s knowledge and pedigree. Levi and Erwin have good reason to be concerned, because the priest of the Church that Hange had hidden away was found tortured to death, making it clear that the Military Police are involved with the cover-up. Things get more harrowing when the MPs make a move on Erwin and the Levi Squad narrowly avoids capture.

Tonight’s Episode: “Reply ”

At his trial before the fake king and his council, Erwin unsuccessfully puts his case to reclaim Wall Maria and avoid a potential civil war caused by people competing for limited resources. Just as Erwin is sentenced to death, news arrive that Wall Rose has been breached by Titans.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Ougen no Kaze (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Golden Wind)

Set in 2001, two years after the events of Diamond is Unbreakable, Koichi Hirose is sent to Italy and tasked by Jotaro Kujo to search for Giorno Giovanna, an aspiring mafia gangster who is a son of Dio Brando. But as Dio possessed the body of Jonathan Joestar at time of his conception, Giorno is technically a Joestar and takes more after them than the father he never knew. The series follows Giorno as he joins the mafia organization Passione, moving up through its ranks with the intention of becoming its boss to improve life in Italy.

Tonight’s Episode: “Head to Venice! ”

Giorno tricks Baby Face Jr. into merging with Melone’s motorcycle then uses the spark plug to ignite the gasoline causing an explosion, destroying him and returning Bucciarati and Trish to normal. Risotto ruthlessly presses his pursuit of Trish. Bucciarati’s gang resumes their journey to Venice where they receive the boss’ final orders from Pericolo via Moody Blues which retrieved him from the past.
