NOTICE OF ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Please be advised that on the 21st of July 2018 the Japanese Animation Fans of Western Australia will be holding it’s 2018 Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Collins Street Centre in South Perth from 3:00pm onwards. The regular screening will commence afterwards, and during the dinner break the committee election will be held.

We request that all current members attend to meet quorum requirements and to have your voices heard!

Or leave your query or statement at the front desk via the suggestion box.

The JAFWA committee has a few constitutional amendments to make that requires the approval and voting by the JAFWA membership.

Screening

Below is the program for the evening of Saturday June 23^rd, 2018.

While this may be the weekend of SupaNova, do recall that they close the doors at 6PM. For after that, there is JAFWA!
We are starting a new regular series this week, where the characters get to visit Fremantle. Let us find out how close to reality they get it. And since there is far more anime being produced in Japan than we can ever hope to screen at JAFWA, we try to make up for that by occasionally screening a sample episode from some anime that seems worthy. Believe it or not, we have two such sample episodes this week!

This is official notification that we are now taking nominations for the upcoming JAFWA committee elections, to be held during the Dinner Break of July 21, after the AGM. Nominations are open to all members paid up for at least the last 3 months, and permanent residents of WA. Sally has already nominated.
Also, we are asking for any issues members want raised at the AGM. Basically this is a notice of inclusion for matters for the official agenda, as per the constitution. So far we have a request to make a constitutional change to the definition of one of the classes of membership.

It is an unfotunate fact, but in Winter we are not able to properly keep the Hall warm. A reminder to bring along warm clothing.

CardCaptor Sakura: Clear Card

The long=awaited sequel. Sakura and Syaoran are starting junior high school. With the Final Judgment passed, Sakura thinks school life will be quiet, but then all her cards suddenly turn blank. The mysterious new power she discovers will change how she thinks about her powers.

This evening’s Episode: “Sakura’s Heavy Rain Alert”

A heavy downpour persists throughout the day, and Sakura discovers it is caused by the card “Aqua”. The cloaked figure from her dreams continues to try stealing her key. And then there are the tryouts for the cheerleading club.

Sakura Quest

Yoshino Koharu is a young girl trying to look for a job in Tokyo, but is only met with a series of rejections. However, she has a seemingly lucky break when she receives a job offer to work with the tourism board of the economically struggling Manoyama village as their “Queen”. With no other choice, Yoshino accepts the offer and travels to Manoyama only to find out that she was hired based on a case of mistaken identity and that her contract term is for one year instead of the one day, as she had initially thought. With nowhere else to go, Yoshino reluctantly becomes Queen of Manoyama.

This evening’s Episode: “Minerva’s Sake Saucer”

Queen Yoshino voluntarily becomes the Warabiya villagers’ hostage since she wants to help them get their bus service back as well. Eventually, the villagers turn their town into the “Republic of Warabiya”, and begin gaining fans and support from Manoyama. Sanae confronts the Professor, who explains that he doesn’t expect the village’s withdrawal to succeed in restoring the bus service, but he did want to make Manoyama aware of Warabiya’s issues.

Sora Yorimo Tooi Basho (aka A Place Further than the Universe)

Mari Tamaki is a second-year high school student who wants to make the most out of her youth but is usually too afraid to do so. One day, she meets Shirase Kobuchizawa, a girl who has been saving up to travel to Antarctica, where her mother disappeared three years ago. Joined by two other girls, Hinata Miyake and Yuzuki Shiraishi, they join an expedition headed towards the Antarctic.

This evening’s Episode: “One Million Yen For Youth”

Mari Tamaki, a second year high school student who fears she has not been making the most of her youth, contemplates skipping school and going on an impulsive trip, but is too scared to go through with it. One evening, she comes across an envelope dropped by a girl, discovering it contains one million yen. What happens when she finds the owner of the lost envelope?

Retro – Choujikuu Yousai Makurosu (Super Dimension Fortress Macross)

In 1999 a city-sized alien spacecraft crashes in South Ataria Island on Earth. Over the course of 10 years the military organization U.N. Spacy reverse-engineers its technology and rebuilds the spacecraft, naming it the SDF-1 Macross. In 2009 at the launch ceremony of the Macross, a space war fleet from the alien Zentraedi arrives in the solar system and identifies the Macross as a former battleship used by their enemies. Mistakes happen. Thus begins the war between Human and Zentraedi, led by the brave crew of the Macross.

Tonight’s Episode: “My Album”

Two years have passed after the final battle with Boddole Zer. The Macross is now a relic of the conflict known as Space War I, and sits in a large lake in barren Alaska. Earth is still a desolate wasteland, and small towns and forests are located miles around Macross City.

Hikari Tsutsui is a high school boy who is satisfied with the virtual girls he encounters in anime and games. He does not have many friends and he lives in his own world. One day, when he is stuck on pool cleaning duty, he is approached by Iroha, a “real girl” who is showy and popular with boys.

Tonight’s Episode: “About the Time I First Met Her.”

As punishment for being late, Hikaru is made to clean the school pool, where he encounters the school’s beauty Iroha Igarashi, a girl famous for her lousy behaviour and lack of friends. Although he is determined to avoid Iroha, he can’t help but take notice of her, especially after she stands up for him against bullies and doesn’t laugh at his otaku habits.

Sword Art Online side-story – Gun Gale Online

This is a side story from the Sword Art Online universe, this is all new characters – no Kirito or Asuna. We follow the story of Karen Kohiruimaki, a university student with a complex about her abnormal height. She begins playing a VR game called Gun Gale Online after it gives her the cute, petit avatar that she has always wanted.

Tonight’s movie: “Death Game”

With three teams remaining in Squad Jam, Llenn and M find themselves up against another team using hovercrafts. But a letter that M reads may spell the death knell for Llenn.

Maho Tsukai no Yome (The Ancient Magus Bride)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human magus named Elias Ainsworth. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife.

Tonight’s Episode: “God’s mill grinds slow but sure.”

With Christmas approaching, Chise and Elias are reminded by fairies called the Yule Twins to be sure to burn a Yule log for the Horned God and Dark Lady. Chise goes Christmas shopping with Alice, who needs help choosing a present for Renfred. They meet Hazel, a Centaur postman, who suggests they buy presents they could see Renfred and Elias using.

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “In the Eternal Night”

Admiral Reinhard von Lohengramm’ fleet is outnumbered and about to be out-flanked. But he is determined not to follow the path of the doddering old generals and have history repeat the events of the Slaughter of Dagon. Tactical brilliance will hopefully outshine tired incompetence. Unless the enemy has someone as brilliant as Admiral Lohengramm.

Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku (Magical Girl Raising Project)

Himekawa Koyuki plays a popular social game known as the Magical Girl Raising Project, that secretly has the ability to grant players a 1-in-10,000 chance of becoming a real-life magical girl. Each of the magical girls possess unique abilities and earn Magical Candies by protecting people and performing good deeds. However, shortly after Himekawa Koyuki becomes the magical girl Snow White, the administration has decided that sixteen magical girls in a certain city is too many, and the number needs to be reduced…

Tonight’s Episode: “Collect Magical Candies!”

Claiming that there is not enough mana within the city to support sixteen magical girls, Fav announces that whoever earns the fewest Magical Candies from performing good deeds each week will lose their ability to transform. Reluctantly accepting these new rules, the various magical girls face introspection. Snow White continues her duties with La Pucelle, she speaks online with Nemurin, a magical girl who can enter dreams.

Jojo no Kimyou na Bouken – Diamond is Unbreakable (Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure – Diamond is Unbreakable)

It’s the year 1999, 11 years after Jotaro Kujo’s desperate fight against Dio in Egypt. Jotaro meets with Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of his grandfather Joseph Joestar. He discovers that Josuke also has the same “Stand” power and that a new threat is surfacing in Morioh City.

Tonight’s Episode: “Shigechi’s Harvest, Part 1”

Josuke and Okuyasu spot a group of hornet-shaped Stands, known as Harvest, picking up loose change and chase them back to its user, a middle school student named Shigekiyo “Shigechi” Yangu. Learning how much money Shigekiyo made just from loose change, Josuke and Okuyasu strike up a business friendship with him, using Harvest to search for discarded stickers and vouchers that can be exchanged for larger cash rewards.
