Weekly Bulletin for Saturday 31st October, 2015

Screening

Below is the program for October 31st, 2015.

Movie Night! – come in anime cosplay for free entry. Since American cultural imperialism is forcing a very distorted version of a Celtic-derived festival upon us, we thought we would watch the “Heisei Tanuki Wars – Pon Poko” for a proper paranormal parade.

Though as we learnt last week week with the finale of “Amagi Brilliant Park”, we have to ration the awesomeness of anime or risk blowing the circuit breakers. Fortunately the Hall had two power supplies, though I was a bit worried that “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” might trip the second circuit breaker.

All items in the original Japanese language with English subtitles.

Synopsis

Kamisama Hajimemashita, 2nd Season

Momozono Nanami continues to serve as the Earth Deity of the Mikage Shrine, and the fox spirit Tomoe continues to serve as her familiar. Their feelings for each other are becoming harder to ignore, but Nanami’s duties as an Earth Deity won’t wait. And an old friend of Tomoe’s is starting to stir up trouble.

Tonight’s Episodes:The Diety Is Blindsided

Despite Tomoe’s reluctance, the group is now going with Nanami’s plan for sneaking in to the tengu compound and finding, and helping, the ailing Sojobo. Shinjuro now pretends to be the Earth Deity of Mikage shrine (with a talisman from Nanami to compel Tomoe’s obedience) and keeps Jiro distracted whilst a disguised Nanami, aided by the eager young Botanmaru, searches the compound. But the nefarious Yatori is still somewhere within, still whispering in Jiro’s ear and working towards his own goal.

Fairy Tail

Magic and mayhem in the nation of Fiore. The members of the infamous mage’s guild Fairy Tail spend their days sorting out problems for the residents of Magnolia and battling the odd apocalyptic demon or dark guild. Of course they don’t let little things like that get in the way of having fun.

Tonight’s Episodes:Fairy Tactician

Grand Chamberlain Darton, who has never agreed with the Eclipse project, has Captain of the Guard Arkadios arrested on trumped up charges and throws Lucy and Yukino, the Celestial Spirit mages essential for the Eclipse plan, in prison as well. The rest of Fairy Tail must carry on with the last day’s events for the Grand Magic games, but Natsu’s ill-timed outburst in front of the magic-draining Eclipse Gate provides a convenient cover for why he is not participating. Instead he, Wendy and Mirajane aren’t waiting around for Lucy to be released.

Shirobako (White Box)

Aoi Miyamori and her four friends made up the Animation club at their high school, and all five of them aimed to go into the Anime industry after graduation. Now Aoi, like her friends, has made her dream come true. She works for Musashino Animation, a little studio in Tokyo. The job comes with all sorts of challenges and stresses but Aoi wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t something she wanted to do.

Tonight’s Episodes:Retake with the Cat

The drama surrounding the ‘explosive’ ending of Episode 8, and who would be the one to animate it, has been resolved. No thanks to Takanashi. Endou and Yuichiro have even developed a measure of professional respect and friendship from the experience. The director Seiichi, has finally faced his own crisis and started to make progress on the storyboards for the final episode of Exodus … he hasn’t actually finished them but at least it’s a start.

Ansatsu Kyoushitsu (Assassination Classroom)

The students of Class 3E are the lost causes of Kunugigaoka Junior High. But they have been given one last chance to redeem themselves. Their new teacher is not human, he’s a monster that blew a hole through the moon and now threatens to do the same to Earth in twelve months’ time. If the students can manage to kill him before then, they get 10 billion yen and the gratitude of the worlds’ governments. So, it’s time to assassinate the teacher! Which is kind of a shame, because he’s a really good teacher.

Tonight’s Episodes:Island Time

Exams are over. Except for Gakushuu in Maths and Japanese each of the “Big Five”, the best students in A Class, lost to someone in E Class. Terasaka and some of the other students also pulled a fast one on Koro-sensei, getting top marks in Home Ec and demanding the right to destroy a tentacle for that. With the wager against A Class netting them a trip to Okinawa things are looking up for their summer vacation assassination attempt. But the growing competence of the “End Class” is not to Principal Asano’s liking.

Movie – Pom Poko (Heisei Tanuki Gassen Ponpoko – literally “Heisei-era Raccoon Dog War Ponpoko”)

In 1960, in the Tama Hills on the outskirts of Japan, a community of Tanuki found their woodland home threatened by a new suburban development project. Thirty years later and the ever decreasing living space and food is driving the Tanuki in the Tama Hills to fight amongst themselves. It is only at the urging of the old matriarch Oroku that they decide instead to join forces to battle the urban development that is stealing away their home.

Preview – Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace (Strange Tales of Rampo: Game of Laplace)

Kobayashi is a middle school student who finds himself embroiled in the gruesome murder of his homeroom teacher. But rather fear or trepidation at the thought of jail time, Kobayashi is delighted that his life has finally become interesting. His case comes to the attention of prodigal teenage investigator Akechi Kogoro and, in spite of his friend Hashiba’s concerns, Kobayashi dives head first into Akechi’s gruesome world of murder.

Tonight’s Episodes:The Human Chair, Part 1

Kobayashi awakens to find himself alone in his classroom. There is not another living soul with him, but there is another person there … or rather a former person. At the head of the classroom is the dismembered corpse of his homeroom teacher, his body parts carefully placed in a bizarre arrangement.

Akame ga Kill (Red-Eye Kill)

Tatsumi was hoping to find enough money in the capital to save his poverty stricken village, what he found instead was corruption and slaughter. The prime minister is the power behind the throne, manipulating the infant emperor for his own gain, and the common folk of the empire suffer under his reign. A group of assassins known as Night Raid prowl the city, leaving a trail of corpses in their wake. But as Tatsumi quickly discovers, they may be the only hope the empire has.

Tonight’s Episode:Kill the Carnage

Mine gets her final confrontation with Seryu although she is only saved from her last ditch suicide bomb attack by Tatsumi, who finally manages to do what he failed to do for Sheele, Bulat and Chelsea … protect one of his friends. Najenda leads the rest of Night Raid into the Path of Peace’s headquarters and there gets the better of Esdeath through her own cleverness and the cowardice of Night Raid’s target, Borick. Night Raid has won this round.
