No Screening this Saturday, 2nd May 2026

No JAFWA screening until Saturday 9^th May 2026!

Saturday May 2^nd is supposed to be Free Comic Book Day. So head on down to your local purveyor of comics and see if you can score some manga samplers. I have 2 such stores within range.

In Japan they are currently having four national holidays in rapid succession, from Wed, 29 Apr 2026 to Wed, 6 May 2026, leading the coming week to be known as Golden Week.

We are taking our once-a-month weekend off to refresh ourselves after the wonderful month of April at JAFWA screenings, with many of our regular series coming to an end, some more satisfying than others. Though various people will be assuaged with the news that maybe half the ending shows have a next season planned/in the works.

On a personal note, your MC was slightly discombobulated by the ending of the final season of “Golden Kamuy“. Your MC has read all 31 volumes of the manga in the JAFWA library, and knows that the final anime episode we screened merely reached the end of the 30th volume (of 31) of the manga. So how long will the “Runaway Train” arc intended to be when it comes out about December/January? Truly, the anime directors know how to leave you on tenterhooks with these cliff-hangers!

But back to general JAFWA business:

The newest anime season started in Japan during April, and we managed to put some preview samples in that was included in the survey that attendees voted upon last week. With the help of the last survey we hope to design (before next week) an almost all new program starting in May, though a couple of other regular series have one or two more episode to finish first.

• First and foremost – starting in May JAFWA will be running on Winter Hours starting at ~4:15PM and running through to ~9:45PM

Lest you be bereft of anime, a couple of cinemas are going to be screening the That time I was Reincarnated as a Slime: Tears of the Azure Sea anime movie. And it looks like there will be a repeat performance of That time I was Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bond.
And I have just learned that Event Cinemas in Innaloo are screening the classic Akira.

If you strongly feel that JAFWA is neglecting certain well-deserving anime, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.
