Screening of Saturday 31st January 2026

We have reached the end of the magnificent first month of the new year and you know what that means at JAFWA – it is time for both a monthly survey and monthly member’s Prize Draw.
Yes, once more during the Dinner Break we will attempt to gauge the audience appreciation of both the regular program and the recent preview items we have chosen to show. Rate the anime you love in an honest and scalar fashion!
And of course we have the Monthly Member’s Prize Draw for signed up members who have attended this month of January. Every week of attendance this month gets you another entry in the draw.

There is only one more regular title to add to the JAFWA program, and that will happen in February, due to screening dates in Japan. This week’s JAFWA screening will be a preview episode early enough to get in the survey, featuring a high-school rom-com between an expressionless person and someone who cannot hide their expressions.

Anime is going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. Recently the “Zombieland Saga” movie is appearing in cinemas, and a “Gundam” movie. Life is wonderful for anime fans.
Come February is the long awaited Scarlet, with more to come.

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Alma-chan Wants to Have a Family (Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai)

Alma is a super high-performance girl-type robot weapon created by two genius scientists, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane. However, because the pair created her, Alma thinks that the two are actually her parents, and uses all in her considerable power to make them the perfect family.

This evening’s Episode: “Hello“

Enji and Suzume finally clean their apartment to give Alma her own bedroom. Later, they are attacked by another robot girl, Machina, who demands a fight with Alma. Machina’s head falls off and Suzume concludes her builder rushed the manufacturing process, leading to shoddy workmanship. Machina’s creator wants to save Suzume. Alma wants a little sister.

Zatsu Tabi (That’s Journey)

Kashiwada and Oota are classmates at a junior high school. Kashiwada is a girl who never shows emotions on her face. Oota is always thinking of pranks to surprise Kashiwada, but he always fails. They appear to be opposite types of people, but they genuinely care for each other.

This Evening’s Episode: “Those Who Are Completely Inexpressive and Those Who Are Super Expressive”

Oota has a chip on his shoulder for pinning his heart on his sleeve, and can’t even beat the expressionless Kashiwada at cards, or startle her in anyway. But Kashiwada can certainly disturb Oota. To the amusement of fellow classmates. Some pool cleaning action may change Kashiwadas’s expression.

Spy x Family season 3

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This Evening’s Episode: “????’s Memories II“

In flashback, a horrified Loid awakes to see his town in ruins and survivors escaping. He and his mother later move to his uncle’s house at the town of Luwen for safety until a bombing raid destroys the home. With his father nowhere to be found and mother dead, a teenage Loid joins the Westalis Army by using another person’s identity and lying about his age to get revenge and kill as many Ostanian soldiers as he can. While on patrol, he encounters Franky, then an Ostanian soldier who just deserted and spares him.

May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shitemo Yoroshii Deshou ka)

In the middle of a ball, Scarlet’s fiancé, Prince Kyle, suddenly calls off their engagement. She’s falsely accused of being a bully, and people unfairly call her a “Villainess.” At her wit’s end, she asks for one last favor: to give him a good fist in the face. So begins Scarlet’s story of revenge against Kyle and his corrupt cronies.

Tonight’s Episode: “May I Go To See My Fists’ Beloved One (Punching Bag)?“

Scarlet attends the auction with Julius. Leonardo and the royal knights wait for the signal to attack. Julius promises to let Scarlet beat up Godwin in exchange for a personal vow, which Scarlet grudgingly gives. In the dungeon, Nanaka comforts the slave children. Godwin ends up trying to escape to the roof, where his Vankish assassin Alflame waits to retrieve them. Scarlet races to the roof in time to stop Alflame from killing Godwin.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”) season 2

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him, now that his magic-lack is revealed.

Tonight’s Episode: “Finn Ames and the Friend“

There exist 13 ancient wands known as Master Canes that bestow blessings on those who can wield them. Carpaccio captures Finn, but when Finn tries to resist Carpaccio’s magic causes stab wounds all over his body; Margarette reveals Carpaccio possesses a Master Cane that transfers damage Carpaccio receives to his opponent. What can Mash do against this?

Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”) season 3

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.
As Aqua continues his quest to find his father—the puppet master behind his mother’s murder—within the Japanese entertainment industry. But to also track down the truth behind Ai and Goro’s deaths, Ruby keeps rising in the entertainment world.

Tonight’s Episode: “Calculating“

Ruby asks for advice on gaining fame to meet the people Ai was acquainted with, and Ichigo Saitou tells her to craft a persona tailored to her strengths. Ruby deliberately juxtaposes her ditziness with Aqua’s cool-headed persona in Dig Deep!, leaving Aqua more suspicious.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game (Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyuu Zenpen)

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin. Now that curses are mainstream, the Culling Game begins, pushing Yuji and his allies to their limits.

Tonight’s Episode: “Perfect Preparation“

Maki returns to the Zen’in clan to find that Ogi has emptied the vault and wounded Mai. He defeats her and leaves the twins to be devoured by curses. When Mai resuscitates Maki, she dreams they are on a beach; knowing she will always keep Maki from reaching her potential as she lives, Mai sacrifices herself by creating a replica of Toji’s katana, asking her to destroy the clan.

The Beginning After The End (Saikyou no Ousama, Futatabime no Jinsei wa Nani o Suru? lit. ‘What Will the Mighty King Do in His Second Life?’)

King Grey is a once-powerful ruler reborn as Arthur Leywin, a boy with untapped potential. He discovers that his new life is filled with danger and adventure at every turn. From mastering powerful spells to facing fierce enemies, Arthur must use his skills and wits to protect those he cares about and uncover the secrets of his mysterious reincarnation.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Saved by the King” and “The King’s Test“

Almost immediately, Arthur witnesses slavers transporting a young elf girl. He takes down three slavers in ambush attacks, but their leader turns out to be a mage whom Arthur eventually kills after a difficult magical duel. For a moment, the girl reminds him of a woman he once knew. Arthur tries to send the girl Tessia to her home of Elenoir, but realizes she is too young to travel on her own, forcing him to try lead her there. They eventually reach a teleportation portal Tessia recognizes as a gateway to Elenoir and quickly pulls him inside. Before Arthur can do anything, he is grabbed by elven soldiers who plan to execute him. They are stopped by Tessia’s grandfather Virion, the retired elven king, causing Arthur to realize Tessia is a princess. Arthur will have to take the long walk back to his parents, assuming they even want him back. He also begins to struggle with terrible pains from his mana core.

Golden Kamuy final season(Goruden Kamui)

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Making a Homeland“

Deep in the smoky, fiery brewery Sakamoto, Asirpa and Kadokura are trapped, when comes Botaro the pirate and his immense lung capacity. But Botaro is making a grab for Asirpa and the skins. What is everyone’s goals if they ever get the gold? What of their homelands? Who will end up with Asirpa? And never forget a high-speed beer-bottle chase.
