Screening of Saturday 17th January 2026

After a few teething troubles, JAFWA is back on track wonderful anime anime screenings in 2026.
We apologise that our scheduled movie was cancelled at the last moment, and we instead played a preview item (“Sentenced to be a Hero”) and an episode from the 2^nd season of “Mashle”. This is what can happen is you miss a JAFWA screening.

This week’s JAFWA screening is almost all new regular items, starting either this week or last week. Though we must confess that some of the items in the program are so fresh and new that at the time of writing this that they have barely screened in Japan yet. At least one title won’t be ready for screening at JAFWA this week and we are on tenterhooks hoping “Golden Kamuy” will be available in time for this week.

Coming to our expected program this week will be the continuing spy-com adventures of a fake family consisting of a master spy, master assassin, naive telepath and bow-wow precognitive.
Technically we were going to start the second season of the wrong guy at elite magic school, but an emergency saw the first episode being screened last week. Life is like a cream-puff.
And we will have a preview episode from an anthology of anime stories written by Tatsuki Fujimoto before he had his breakout hit “Chainsaw Man”.

Anime is going mainstream. Last year at the cinemas has been the “Demon Slayer” movie, followed by the “Chainsaw Man” movie, and then the “Jujitsu Kaisen” movie. Soon this year there will be a “Gundam” movie Life is wonderful for anime fans.

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Alma-chan Wants to Have a Family (Alma-chan wa Kazoku ni Naritai)

Alma is a super high-performance girl-type robot weapon created by two genius scientists, Enji Kamisato and Suzume Yobane. However, because the pair created her, Alma thinks that the two are actually her parents, and uses all in her considerable power to make them the perfect family.

This evening’s Episode: “Let’s Eat“

Alma learns to cook healthy food, but when Alma tries to eat and damages herself, forcing Suzume and Enji to build her a working stomach. What about a little brother? And what happens when Enji’s little sister Toki visits, expecting him to be living alone?

Zatsu Tabi (That’s Journey)

Chika Suzugamori is a college student who has been shopping some manga pitches around to publishers ever since she won a rookie manga award, but keeps getting rejected. Just as she was about to lose hope in ever breaking into the manga industry, she decides on a whim to go traveling without any particular goal. During her journey, Chika meets different people, experiences local cultures, and finds new inspiration for her manga.

This Evening’s Episode: “A Pilgrimage with Master“

Chika visits Izumo-Taisha in Shimane with Fuyune, where she finds out that Fuyune and Riri had an argument.

Spy x Family season 3

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This Evening’s Episode: “Berlint Panic / The Informant and Nightfall“

The Forger family have a fun time at a carnival until Bond has a vision of an excavator attacking the carnival. Anya discovers the culprit is an angry, overworked construction worker who is forced to work overtime at a nearby construction site. Anya tricks her parents to go the construction site. Fiona is assigned to get forged Ostanian trade documents for strawberries to be exported to Westalis for the Westalis Trade Minister son’s birthday party. To help her task, Fiona contacts Franky who knows a document forger.

May I Ask for One Final Thing? (Saigo ni Hitotsu dake Onegai Shitemo Yoroshii Deshou ka)

In the middle of a ball, Scarlet’s fiancé, Prince Kyle, suddenly calls off their engagement. She’s falsely accused of being a bully, and people unfairly call her a “Villainess.” At her wit’s end, she asks for one last favor: to give him a good fist in the face. So begins Scarlet’s story of revenge against Kyle and his corrupt cronies.

Tonight’s Episode: “May I Offer You the Taste of My Fist as the Ladylike Thing to Do?“

Prince Julius is thrilled to see Scarlet’s true personality, but she passes out due to overuse of her time manipulation magic. She wakes up three days later just in time to thwart an assassination attempt by her maid Nanaka. Julius and Leonardo then arrive, explaining that they have formed a special group called the Crown Investigatory Office (CIO) dedicated to removing corruption from the government.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”) season 2

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him, now that his magic-lack is revealed.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Mash Burnedead and the Home Visit” and “Rayne Ames and God’s Gift“

Principal Wahlberg suggests Mash could be vital in understanding Innocent Zero, which is just enough to delay Mash’s execution to see if he can become a Divine Visionary. Celebrations if town, a new wand Mash style, and finally Mash takes his friends to visit Regro who is amazed Mash has friends and, according to Lemon, a future wife. Margarette Macaron is heading towards Mash’s house in order to make Mash unable to take the Divine Visionary Election Exam when they encounter Rayne Ames who stands in their way.

preview item – Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26

Eight stories, seven directors, and six animation studios. Together, Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 collects the animated adaptations from Fujimoto’s early career before his global hit, Chainsaw Man. The anime anthology mirrors the same order as the two-volume collection it’s based on, animating the stories he created from ages seventeen to twenty-six. The result is a string of striking stories that cover everything from aliens, emotional bonds, and pandemonium–sometimes all of the above at once.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin’ in the Schoolyard“

In 2019, an extraterrestrial force successfully defeated Earth, resulting in widespread devastation for humanity. To the victors, humans are no more than livestock, just as chickens once were to people. However, two human survivors, Y?to and Ami, are currently concealed in a school courtyard that has been overrun by extraterrestrial students.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Culling Game (Jujutsu Kaisen Shimetsu Kaiyuu Zenpen)

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin. Now that curses are mainstream, the Culling Game begins, pushing Yuji and his allies to their limits.

Tonight’s Episode: “One More Time“

Choso struggles against Naoya, but by flooding the underpass they are in with his blood, he defeats him. Yuta knocks Choso unconscious and heals Naoya in exchange for confirming Yuji’s execution. Yuji sees a memory of his grandfather’s conversation with his father Jin, being distrustful of his mother Kaori, who bares stitches on her forehead. Megumi appears to ask for his help, revealing his stepsister Tsumiki will be forced to participate in “Noritoshi Kamo”’s Culling Games, a battle royale of jujutsu sorcerers awakened after the Shibuya Incident.

The Beginning After The End (Saikyou no Ousama, Futatabime no Jinsei wa Nani o Suru? lit. ‘What Will the Mighty King Do in His Second Life?’)

King Grey is a once-powerful ruler reborn as Arthur Leywin, a boy with untapped potential. He discovers that his new life is filled with danger and adventure at every turn. From mastering powerful spells to facing fierce enemies, Arthur must use his skills and wits to protect those he cares about and uncover the secrets of his mysterious reincarnation.

Tonight’s Episode: “The King, Under Attack“

Arthur recalls when an emissary from another nation attempted to assassinate him, so he executed the man’s family to spare them years of torture, and the emissary thanked him. Reynolds begins teaching Arthur the sword and is astounded Arthur is already a skilled swordsman. Realizing he and Alice aren’t capable of training Arthur, they move to Xyros city to find him an instructor.

Golden Kamuy final season(Goruden Kamui)

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.
