Screening of Saturday 8th November 2025

Welcome to the month of November! Spring is nearing its end and this is the month where JAFWA traditionally tries to wrap up the current program so that we can start the New year with a fresh set of anime. Me, I just wonder how the decade has passed so quickly. The good times pass too quickly.

With the Mamoru Hosoda Retrospective soon to screen at Luna Leederville, JAFWA is looking to score some free double passes, to be used as Door Prizes. You have to attend to win them!

This week at JAFWA we have our usual delightful program, as well as a preview episode. Japan produces so much anime it is difficult for JAFWA to even screen a representative sample, but this week’s preview episode may be even stretching the definition of anime – it started life as a South Korean web-toon and manhwa, was properly animated as a Original Net Animation (an OAV released directly to the internet) by a Chinese studio, dubbed into Japanese language, then subtitled with English.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Dr Stone season 4 “Science Future”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all. This will involve creating a space program to go to the Moon. The battle between scientists is about to start.

This Evening’s Episode: “Until We Meet Again“

As the petrification wave nears, Ukyo frees Francois, Suika, Ginro, and Matsukaze, urging them to deliver the revival fluid to Senku. Suika manages to deliver them to the advance party who places one of them inside the Medusa tower as planned. Gravely wounded, Senku entrusts humanity’s future to nature, hoping the last vial will someday break and revive an ally. Meanwhile, across Ishigami Village and Treasure Island, the survivors collapse carefully to keep their statues intact. Approximately two years later, Suika is naturally revived. But can she find more revival fluid?

Secrets of the Silent Witch (Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto)

Monica Everett, the Silent Witch, is the world’s only practitioner of Voiceless Magic, a veritable heroine who single-handedly fended off the Black Dragon of legend. However, the young prodigy is actually…super-duper shy. and she only learned Voiceless Magic to avoid speaking in public. Ignorant of this, the Seven Sages have placed her on a top-secret mission to guard the Second Prince.

This Evening’s Episode: “The Hidden Secret“

After being briefed on the situation, Sage Louis takes Casey into custody. While her crime constitutes the death penalty, Monica convinces him to exile her instead, since the mother of First Prince Lionel, whose claim to the throne Louis backs, is from Landor; thus, exposing Casey could reflect badly on him. During that, Casey disowns Monica, telling her she should hate her for pretending to be her friend. The cover up will have other consequences.

This evening’s Episode: “Fate Begins to Stir“

Empress Consort Diana dies giving birth to Emperor Claude Obelia’s daughter Athanasia. Having never loved Diana Claude completely ignores Athanasia. At a few days old Athanasia gains adult intelligence and has a vision of her future where she is accused of plotting Claude’s assassination, leading to her imprisonment and suicide. Diana’s friend Lilian decides to raise Athanasia herself. Three years later Athanasia is beloved by her servants who find her adorable, except for a greedy maid who searches Athanasia’s home hoping to steal treasure.

Zatsu Tabi (That’s Journey)

Chika Suzugamori is a college student who has been shopping some manga pitches around to publishers ever since she won a rookie manga award, but keeps getting rejected. Just as she was about to lose hope in ever breaking into the manga industry, she decides on a whim to go traveling without any particular goal. During her journey, Chika meets different people, experiences local cultures, and finds new inspiration for her manga.

Tonight’s Episode: “A City where you can meet Gods? And then…“

Chika is getting better feedback on her draft proposals, but frustratingly she is still missing something. Perhaps a trip to Ise Bay in Mie Prefecture with Riri-sensei? But searching for food our geographically challenged Chika is reminded of Ise Shrine, the number one godly location in Japan. Riri-sensi when not drinking is rather elegant and responsible. This has helped Chika a lot, but her editor suggests one more dreaded night-time journey. Fortunately she has friends.

365 Days to the Wedding (“Kekko surutte, Hontou desuka” literally “Are You Really Getting Married?”)

The J.T.C. travel agency is looking for someone to manage its brand-new branch in Irkutsk. But for employees Takuya Oohara and Rika Honjouji, they’d rather just stay home in Tokyo. Thankfully, they’ve discovered a way out—their manager has narrowed down the recruits to bachelors, so they decide to get married. The problem is they barely know each other at all.

Tonight’s Episode: “Rika-san, How Are You?“

Nao finally catches up to Honjoji to apologise and offers her a free glass-making class. With nothing else to do except worry about Ohara Honjoji accepts. Honjoji’s moth visits and eventually asks about marriage and warns Honjoji that choosing the right man is vital. Honjoji misses several calls from Ohara, convincing him she is avoiding him.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”)

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mash Burnedead and the Accelerated Battle“

Mud Magic user Wirth invites Lance to join Magia Lupus, claiming it will make Lance stronger than Adler could. Meanwhile 2nd fang Abyss cuts Mash several times and reveals a relic is draining Lemon’s magic; in 30 minutes she will become magicless permanently. Mash breaks his mask, revealing his Evil-Eye which is despised by magic society for its magic nullifying power.

SAO alternate: Gun Gale Online season 2

This is a side story from the Sword Art Online universe, this is all new characters – no Kirito or Asuna. We follow the story of Karen Kohiruimaki, a university student with a complex about her abnormal height. She begins playing a VR game called Gun Gale Online after it gives her the cute, petit avatar that she has always wanted.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Showdown“

Eva reveals she figured out LLENN is the real traitor and teams up with her. Meanwhile, Pitohui orders M to withdraw and support the “true winner” so she and Fukaziroh can have a fair two on two battle with LLENN and Eva. This is the battle to decide Squad Jam 3!

Solo Leveling 2 – Arise from the Shadows

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “It Was All Worth It“

Upon using the potion gained from clearing the Demon’s Castle, Jin-woo’s mother recovers and poignantly reunites with Jin-woo and Jin-ah, eventually moving back in with them. As such, Jin-woo refuses when Baek approaches him to join the Jeju Island operation. In an effort to convince him, Baek has him meet the combined force of S-Ranks. The Japanese and Korean S-Rank Hunters agree to train through a 4v4 duel.

Akiba Maid War (Akiba Maid Sensou)

In Akihabara in 1999, a 17-year-old girl named Nagomi Wahira begins her new job working at a pig-themed maid cafe, trying to follow her dream of being a cheerful and hardworking maid. However, Nagomi soon finds the world of maid cafes in Akihabara is a lot more cutthroat than she anticipated at first.

Tonight’s Episode: “Akiba Creatures Go Wild! Let the Moe Festivities Begin!!“

The “Lady Omoe Festival” is about to start, a festival in honor of the first ever Akiba Maid, where all the local Maid Cafes sell themselves and their snacks to the visitors, and then race to reach the top of a giant Lady Omoe statue where the winning maid cafe gets increased prestige and sales. However, with the end of the group warfare, nothing prevents events from being rigged.

DanDaDan part 2

Takakura, an occult maniac who doesn’t believe in ghosts, and Ayase, a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens, try to overcome their differences when they encounter the paranormal.

Tonight’s Episode: “I Want to Rebuild the House“

Okarun matches Evil Eye’s strength, and they destroy Seiko’s house, leaving Evil Eye wanting to continue the duel. Okarun refuses and compromises on fighting him once a week in exchange for not harming innocent people, which Evil Eye begrudgingly accepts. Okarun and Aira return with Peeny-Weeny to help Momo and Seiko rebuild their house using nanoskin. But is Evil-Eye behaving?
