JAFWA returns to Normal Hours (5:15PM -> 10:40PM) in October

The month of October does not imply octopodes. I doubt we will have a single octopus appearing in any of our anime items this month. If you wish to prove me wrong, come along to JAFWA and keep a close eye out for an octopus appearing somewhere in our program.
We are no longer in Winter Hours so JAFWA starts at 5PM!

With the Mamoru Hosoda Retrospective soon to screen at Luna Leederville, JAFWA is looking to score some free double passes, to be used as Door Prizes. You have to attend to win them!

Since last week had a surprise pirate appearance, this week’s program will include a ninja-related preview item, set outside of medieval Japan, but full of bloody battles.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

• From Thursday October 23^rd 2025 — For the fans of “Chainsaw Man” seen at JAFWA comes the next story arc as a theatrical movie – Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc at assorted cinemas. As always check to see if a particular session is Japanese language with English subs, or (shudder) dubbed into English.
• Monday November 10^th 2025, 6:30PM — Luna Monday double feature at Leederville – “Tokyo Godfathers” and “Paprika” Japanese language, English subtitles, 15 minute intermission between the two movies. Satoshi Kon goodness.
• Sunday 18^th to Wednesday 26^th November 2025, — The Annual Perth Japan Film Festival in Perth held at Palace Cinemas Raine Square.

Dr Stone season 4 “Science Future”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all. This will involve creating a space program to go to the Moon. The battle between scientists is about to start.

This Evening’s Episode: “Stone Sanctuary“

After crafting ultra-small diamonds, Senku reveals that reactivating the Medusa requires natural diamonds from Lassen Volcanic National Park, polished with synthetic diamond dust. He also warns that the advance party must sever communications to evade Stanley who is circling around South America and closing in fast. The advance party presses deeper into the Amazon, selecting the stone sanctuary of Araxá as the foundation for their Superalloy City. At Araxá, the group fortifies their position, preparing to lure Stanley’s forces into a decisive showdown.

Secrets of the Silent Witch (Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto)

Monica Everett, the Silent Witch, is the world’s only practitioner of Voiceless Magic, a veritable heroine who single-handedly fended off the Black Dragon of legend. However, the young prodigy is actually…super-duper shy. and she only learned Voiceless Magic to avoid speaking in public. Ignorant of this, the Seven Sages have placed her on a top-secret mission to guard the Second Prince.

To celebrate Monica passing the retest, Glenn throws a barbecue. After school, Monica receives a new dress as a gift from Louis through Rynzbelfeid and begins writing a thank you letter. The next day, Monica notices that Claudia has been tailing her, then reluctantly attends a tea party with Caroline. Monica drinks tea that Caroline poisoned with eye drops causing her to faint and recall the time her father was burned at stake for forbidden research.

Zatsu Tabi (That’s Journey)

Chika Suzugamori is a college student who has been shopping some manga pitches around to publishers ever since she won a rookie manga award, but keeps getting rejected. Just as she was about to lose hope in ever breaking into the manga industry, she decides on a whim to go traveling without any particular goal. During her journey, Chika meets different people, experiences local cultures, and finds new inspiration for her manga.

This evening’s Episode: “An Epic Midsummer Journey!“

Continuing on from last week, Chika and Hassu Koyomi are enjoying Summer holidays on the island of Awashima. But someone forgot their sunscreen. Come the morning what delights will they experience as they go full cycle? And yet a few days later another journey with Hassu and also Yui, but no father than the West of Tokyo and the rich history of Shibuya.

365 Days to the Wedding (“Kekko surutte, Hontou desuka” literally “Are You Really Getting Married?”)

The J.T.C. travel agency is looking for someone to manage its brand-new branch in Alaska. But for employees Takuya Oohara and Rika Honjouji, they’d rather just stay home in Tokyo. Thankfully, they’ve discovered a way out—their manager has narrowed down the recruits to bachelors, so they decide to get married. The problem is they barely know each other at all.

Tonight’s Episode: “Can I Come Over to Your Place?“

Ohara’s childhood friend Nao cannot find her new apartment, which turns out to be in the building next door to Honjoji’s. Nao invites herself to Honjoji’s apartment for drinks. As Honjoji nervously starts to become drunk, she reveals that Ohara is bad at communicating, and she cannot tell if he likes her or not. Also drunk, Nao calls Ohara and demands that he visit Honjoji’s apartment. Words will be spoken.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”)

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mash Burnedead and the Puppet Master“

Abel wants to return the world to a “survival of the fittest” mentality, as “equality for all” means no opportunity for strong people to advance. He uses his dolls to steal Mash’s gold coin. Mash discovers cutting their strings returns the dolls to humans, freeing Silva. Mash and Lance are later attacked by Magia Lupus members Sixth Magic Fang Olore, who transforms into a shark, and Seventh Magic Fang Anser, who controls a magical shuriken.

SAO alternate: Gun Gale Online season 2

This is a side story from the Sword Art Online universe, this is all new characters – no Kirito nor Asuna. We follow the story of Karen Kohiruimaki, a university student with a complex about her abnormal height. She begins playing a VR game called Gun Gale Online after it gives her the cute, petit avatar that she has always wanted.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Offensive and Defensive Battle That Still Has Time“

All of the teams make a run for the ship as Pitohui and David cut the lifeboats loose. Eva, Elvin, Tomtom, and Cole do their best to repel the other teams. MMTM and SHINC manage to reach the ship after losing a single member each while LPFM manages to reach the ship with no casualties. Belowdecks, the teams wait for the scan and LPFM and SHINC are shocked to find that they are right next to each other.

Higan is a ninja who has left his clan to live with his wife Ren and their child Ren. Unfortunately, those who leave the clan are considered traitors and must be killed. Higan can leave a peaceful life for a while but eventually, his family gets attacked and by a miracle he is the sole survivor. He sets out on a quest of revenge against the people who took his family away.

In a city, a young man attempts to escape masked ninja assailants chasing him, but is caught and beheaded by their boss. Elsewhere, Joe Logan, his wife Sara and son Kyle are enjoying their daily life in the corn fields of rural America. Joe and Sara celebrate Kyle’s birthday, but that night the family is ambushed by ninjas. Joe miraculously awakens in a morgue and is later approached in the hospital by FBI agents.

Solo Leveling 2 – Arise from the Shadows

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “The 10th S-Rank Hunter“

Jin-woo arrives for his reassessment, overshadowing Minsung’s press conference to announce his Hunter assessment, officially designated as the tenth S-Rank Hunter in South Korea. Using his new status, Jin-woo sells items to purchase gear for the S-rank dungeon. Elsewhere, Jin-ho’s father becomes ill due to magic exposure and a flying ant appears in South Korea.

Akiba Maid War (Akiba Maid Sensou)

In Akihabara in 1999, a 17-year-old girl named Nagomi Wahira begins her new job working at a pig-themed maid cafe, trying to follow her dream of being a cheerful and hardworking maid. However, Nagomi soon finds the world of maid cafes in Akihabara is a lot more cutthroat than she anticipated at first.

Tonight’s Episode: “Creature Gang War Chronicles: The Bloody Extra-Akiba Terrestrial Showdown!“

One week after Nerula’s murder, Nagomi has gone missing from Oinky Doink Cafe. Ranko finds out that Nagomi has started working at a ninja-themed cafe instead, hoping to hide from the maid violence. Some time later, Manami takes a sizable crew of Maidaliens with her to finish off Oinky Doink Cafe. Despite Ranko, Zoya, and Yumechi’s tactics, the numbers are not in their favor. However, Nagomi appears in her ninja outfit, using smoke bombs and kunai to ambush the enemy maids and even the odds.

DanDaDan part 2

Takakura, an occult maniac who doesn’t believe in ghosts, and Ayase, a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens, try to overcome their differences when they encounter the paranormal.

Tonight’s Episode: “Feeling Kinda Gloom“

Miko and Muko tease Momo as she begrudgingly serves drinks to her friends and a flustered Okarun. Momo continues working at the Maid Cafe until the end of her shift, where she finds Okarun waiting for her. Meanwhile, Jiji is able to gradually control Evil Eye much to Seiko’s relief. Okarun will need to train harder, but music does not soothe the savage spirit.
