JAFWA continues in August (Winter Hours:- 4:15PM -> 9:45PM)

Last week at JAFWA was a blast! We will be trying to keep the momentum of excitement up this week, the last week of August. And you know what that means – we will have both our monthly survey during the Dinner Break, as well as our Member’s Prize draw! What an August ending to this month.

This week’s program still has a little bit of exciting flux still to settle. First off is one last preview item to watch before this month’s survey, and we are once again reminded that the Japanese psyche was strongly influenced by some Western Children’s classics in the early era of anime.
In addition there is two more regular series starting this week – can writer’s block be resolved by a random walkabout trip around Japan, and the second season of an FPS spin-off from a multi-media franchise involving video games better than we have today.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Apocalypse Hotel

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all. This will involve creating a space program to go to the Moon. The battle between scientists is about to start.

This Evening’s Episode: “Earth Race“

Senku reveals the advance party’s true mission: to build a superalloy city in the Amazon rainforest. This requires sailing around South America, a long journey with frequent stops for fuel and lumber, risking Stanley’s forces catching up. One night, Taiju and Suika spot glowing letters in the sky and suspect the Why-man, but Senku and Xeno determine that they were made using kites and phosphorescent paint. Welcome Dr Chelsea.

Secrets of the Silent Witch (Silent Witch: Chinmoku no Majo no Kakushigoto)

Monica Everett, the Silent Witch, is the world’s only practitioner of Voiceless Magic, a veritable heroine who single-handedly fended off the Black Dragon of legend. However, the young prodigy is actually…super-duper shy. and she only learned Voiceless Magic to avoid speaking in public. Ignorant of this, the Seven Sages have placed her on a top-secret mission to guard the Second Prince.

This Evening’s Episode: “Taking a Step Forward“

Monica attends her first day at Serendia Academy but makes a poor first impression due to her shyness. Monica searches for a private spot she can be alone in, and encounters Prince Felix by chance. After instinctively saving Felix from a falling flower pot, she faints from fright from being in close contact with him. The Prince suspects Monica.

Prince Edward Island is a beautiful, small island in Canada. By mistake, the orphaned Anne Shirley is taken in by the elderly Cuthbert siblings, Marilla and Matthew, at Green Gables. Through her interactions with her classmates, teachers, and the people in the village, the young Anne grows up.

This Evening’s Episode: “It’s Such an Interesting World“

Anne Shirley, an eleven-year-old girl born in Nova Scotia, arrives at Prince Edward Island from an orphanage, where she will be living with the Cuthberts. She happily greets Matthew Cuthbert at the train station, but the Cuthberts were expecting a “little orphan boy” to raise. Can they return her, for being defective?

Zatsu Tabi (That’s Journey)

Chika Suzugamori is a college student who has been shopping some manga pitches around to publishers ever since she won a rookie manga award, but keeps getting rejected. Just as she was about to lose hope in ever breaking into the manga industry, she decides on a whim to go traveling without any particular goal. During her journey, Chika meets different people, experiences local cultures, and finds new inspiration for her manga.

Tonight’s Episode: “The First 1225 Steps“

Chika Suzugamori, a college student who dreams of becoming a mangaka, tells her story. After failing multiple times to get her work serialized, Chika feels stressed and decides to go on a trip to escape. Without much planning, she holds a poll on social media to choose her destination, leading her to an unexpected place across Japan.

365 Days to the Wedding (“Kekko surutte, Hontou desuka” literally “Are You Really Getting Married?”)

The J.T.C. travel agency is looking for someone to manage its brand-new branch in Irkutsk. But for employees Takuya Oohara and Rika Honjouji, they’d rather just stay home in Tokyo. Thankfully, they’ve discovered a way out—their manager has narrowed down the recruits to bachelors, so they decide to get married. The problem is they barely know each other at all.

Tonight’s Episode: “What Does It Mean to Get Married?“

Ohara receives an anonymous call from someone who knows their engagement is fake. Their co-worker Gonda asks to visit Ohara’s home, so Honjoji brings some of her things over to make it appear she spends time there. Honjoji admits she is confused why their co-workers seem obsessed with their relationship. Then there is Ohara’s father, who has heard rumours of the wedding.

Mashle: Magic and Muscles (“Masshuru”)

This is a world of magic where magic is used for everything. But deep in the forest exists a young man who spends his time training and bulking up. He can’t use magic, but he enjoys a peaceful life with his father. His muscular body will have to protect him from the magic users who are out to get him.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mash Burnedead and the Mysterious Maze“

Officer Brad provides Mash a fake Mark so he can attend Easton Academy’s entrance exam. Examiner Claude dislikes Mash, mistaking his airheadedness for laziness. Mash manages to pass the magical demonstrations. For the last test the applicants must escape a trap filled maze. Mash encounters Lemon, a shy girl who sabotages Mash on purpose.

SAO alternate: Gun Gale Online season 2

This is a side story from the Sword Art Online universe, this is all new characters – no Kirito or Asuna. We follow the story of Karen Kohiruimaki, a university student with a complex about her abnormal height. She begins playing a VR game called Gun Gale Online after it gives her the cute, petit avatar that she has always wanted.

Tonight’s Episode: “What Happens Twice Will Happen Thrice“

With the Third Squad Jam beginning, Pitohui convinces LLENN and Fukaziroh to join her and M’s team “LPFM” so they can cooperate rather than compete against each other. LLENN is hesitant until Pitohui reminds her of her promise to have a rematch against Team SHINC. Meanwhile, other teams make their preparations for the Squad Jam as well while Fukaziroh warns LLENN that the Third Squad Jam will introduce new secret rules as teams are eliminated.

Solo Leveling 2 – Arise from the Shadows

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “I Suppose You Aren’t Aware”

Outside the gate, Dongsoo and Baek Yoonho nearly come to blows, but Dongsoo leaves after being convinced that Jin-woo is guaranteed to die in the dungeon. An unraveling Chul blames Jin-woo for his party’s death and attacks him, leading Dungeon boss Baruka to their location. Baruka notes that Jin-woo doesn’t appear as human to him.

Akiba Maid War (Akiba Maid Sensou)

In Akihabara in 1999, a 17-year-old girl named Nagomi Wahira begins her new job working at a pig-themed maid cafe, trying to follow her dream of being a cheerful and hardworking maid. However, Nagomi soon finds the world of maid cafes in Akihabara is a lot more cutthroat than she anticipated at first.

Tonight’s Episode: “Gambling Adoracalypse: Yumechi“

While Nagomi tries to process the events of the previous night, the Oinky Doink manager is forced to serve as a golf tee by the Creatureland representative for not paying her dues and ruining his original plan for Wuv-Wuv Moonbeam. In dire need of cash, the manager visits a loan shark, who makes her give him the Oinky Doink Cafe as collateral, then convinces her to gamble the loaned money at the Maid Casino.

DanDaDan part 2

Takakura, an occult maniac who doesn’t believe in ghosts, and Ayase, a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens, try to overcome their differences when they encounter the paranormal.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Evil Eye“

Jiji saves Momo and Okarun from killing themselves due to the death worm’s psychic powers when he encounters a spirit named Evil Eye, whose abilities conflict with the death worm. Gazing into Evil Eye, Evil Eye in turn gazed into Jiji. Now Momo, Okarun and Turbo Granny need to deal with a possessed Jiji as well as the Mongolian Death Worm.
