JAFWA continues in July (Winter Hours:- 4:15PM->9:45PM)

JAFWA‘s AGM is over, and the election was a non-issue. Now comes the important part of the month.
Know too, that this is the end of the month when we have a rather important survey during our Dinner Break that will provide vital guidance in our selection of anime. With our regular program items approaching their conclusion, it will be in August and September we will have several new regular series starting. With the results of this survey biasing the decision strongly. Hence the Survey this week is your chance to bend the JAFWA program to your will.
And we will also have our monthly members’ prize draw, so make certain to attend.

During this week’s program at JAFWA we will also screen a preview episode of a new anime recently screened in Japan, in order to bedevil you with more options for the Survey. Based off of a manga which the JAFWA library has a couple of translated volumes. A lovely slice of life featuring a shy bodyguard witch in the hallowed halls of elite education in a fantasy world.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

And there is the end of year irregular screening to consider. What do you want to see in it?

• Sunday July 27^th 2025, — Nostalgia screening of Cowboy Bebop: The Movie at the Revival House cinema in Como. I can’t tell if it is subbed or dubbed.
• From Thursday July 31^st 2025, — select cinemas screening the latest Detective Conan movie – “One Eyed Flashback”. Check to see which sessions are subbed or dubbed.

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzarou hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “Wag Your Tail, but Never Wag a Shift!“

After studying Japanese labor laws, Ponko orders Yachiyo to take the next two days off from work. Initially unsure of what to do, Yachiyo checks into the hotel as a guest. Then she tours what’s left of Ginza’s various landmarks and tourist destinations. However, when she performs a system check she discovers one of her parts is starting to break down.

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Mob 2 ~Rival~“

After being hit by the truck, Mob reawakens in his ???% state and proceeds to go on a rampage. He proceeds to walk straight forward toward the park, still with his bouquet for Tsubomi in tow, decimating everything in his path, forcing the city into lockdown. Reaching a forest area “Mob” is confronted by Teru as they proceed to battle with their psychic powers.

Monica Everett, the Silent Witch, is the world’s only practitioner of Voiceless Magic, a veritable heroine who single-handedly fended off the Black Dragon of legend. However, the young prodigy is actually…super-duper shy. and she only learned Voiceless Magic to avoid speaking in public. Ignorant of this, the Seven Sages have placed her on a top-secret mission to guard the Second Prince.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Colleague Arrives and Acts Unreasonably“

After saving the Kingdom of Ridill is attacked by a horde of pterodragons led by the Black Dragon of Worgan, Monica Everett, known as the Silent Witch of the Seven Sages recieves a secret order from the king to protect the second prince Felix Arc Ridill. Now Monica, along with her black cat familiar Nero, will struggle against her shyness and anxiety to go undercover asa student at Serendia Academy. Introduced to the villainous Isabelle Norton, Count Kerbeck’s daughter whose land Monica saved from the black dragon.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective (“Ameko Takao no Suiri Karte” literally “Ameku Takao’s Mystery Medical Record”)

Dr. Takao Ameku is the brilliant yet eccentric director of investigative pathology at Tenikai General Hospital, in charge of diagnosing patients the other hospital departments cannot. However, due to her love of solving mysteries, Takao also gets involved with mysterious deaths and murders, all while dragging along her assistant Yu Takanashi in her various adventures.

This evening’s Episode: “The Night When the Angels Danced [Part 2]“

Fuyumoto recovers from his heart attack, but the doctors are still puzzled how it happened. Takao deduces the culprit responsible for the boys growing sicker and the angel sightings. Without explaining, she announces to the three boys they are being sent home. However these bullies have true remorse about bullying dying Miki.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “Taibon“

Maomao learns the resurrection drug was a side result of the immortality research, proven effective by Suirei. Shenmei, obsessed with regaining youth, demands a youth potion. Maomao insults Shenmei, and is sent to the “taibon”—a pit of venomous creatures—but delights in dispatching and eating one of them. Then there is gunpowder stores and the approaching imperial army.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 3

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “War Without Weapons“

To the dismay of the FPA forces in Iserlohn Fortress, it appears that the Imperial Geiersburg Fortress has warped into attack range. Their only advantage – the Imperials don’t yet know Yang Wen-Li is not present. Back on Heinessen Yang has a few friends, but is surrounded by enemies at the Court of Inquiry. Will he use his ultimate resource?

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”) season 2

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Nomad: Now Here” finale

Sian wakes up with Belle. She still cannot remember him, but Gaff told her who he is. He expresses pride in her and she kisses his cheek as he leaves. Belle, Guinness, and Bennett meet Adonis’ brother, Sandy, who restores his father’s sword. A new sacred tree sprouts, but they say they will never be slaves to the machines again and Belle chops it down. Belle meets Gaff to take the test to become a Nomad. She suddenly tries to destroy the piano, but her sword goes through it. The “NOWHERE” inscribed on the piano changes to “NOW HERE” and it plays a beautiful song by itself. Now it is time to leave.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “Arise” finale (season 1)

Overwhelmed by the seemingly endless horde, Jin-woo nearly despairs. The timer for the daily quest, which Jin-woo forgot to do that day, expires; he is transferred to a penalty zone, which he uses to recover and prepare. Returning to the castle, he succeeds in defeating the horde. As a reward he gains the title “Shadow Monarch” and its benefits. Meanwhile, the S-rank hunters make a horrifying discovery: the Jeju Island S-rank monsters are evolving and now threaten to spread to the mainland.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (“Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”) season 3

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favour, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Tonight’s Episode: “Theresia van Astrea“

As they fight, Wilhelm attempts to reason with Theresia, but is caught off guard and defeated when Heinkel stumbles upon them. Fortunately, Reinhard arrives before Theresia can kill them and instantly defeats her. It is time to flashback over her life, before she dies once more in Wilhelm’s arms.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Caged Bird“

Lambda, aka 11, believes she should kill Rose but relents after Cid decides to visit Rose himself. Epsilon, as famous musician Shiron, can escort Cid into the palace as her student. Perv demands Cid perform a song to prove he is Shiron’s student. Cid dazzles the nobles with a performance of Moonlight Sonata while using magic to sneakily rob them of money and jewelry, including the Ring of Succession from Perv’s pocket he mistakenly assumes to be Rose’s ring for the wedding. Unaware Cid from the academy is also Lord Shadow, whom she had worked for briefly, Princess Rose is glad to see Cid whom she still loves.
