ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING before JAFWA Screening

This is it!
After announcing it at JAFWA and web-sites for a couple of months, it is finally upon us!

Please be advised that on the 19th of July 2025 the Japanese Animation Fans of Western Australia inc. will be holding it’s 2025 Annual General Meeting.

The meeting will be held at the Collins Street Centre in South Perth from 2:00pm onwards. The regular screening will commence afterwards, and during the dinner break the committee election will be held.

We request that all current members attend to meet quorum requirements and to have your voices heard! Please arrive about 10 minutes early.

If you have any matters you would like to have raised at the meeting, please email them through to jafwa.anime@gmail.com. Preferably sufficiently in advance so that we can accurately prepare our response.

Screening on the evening of Saturday, July 19^th 2025, after the AGM

Now that the excitement of JAFWA‘ AGM has been dealt with, I imagine you wish to watch a delightful program of anime.
We should warn you that quite a few items in our regular program are approaching their conclusion, so that in August we will have several new regular series to start. But which ones? This is a hint that the survey to be held on the 26^th may be a little more important than usual.

However that is next week. During this week’s program at JAFWA we will also screen a preview episode of a new anime recently screened in Japan. Based off of a manga which the JAFWA library has a couple of translated volumes. Involving that most feral, yet somehow lovable beast, in a situation that seems like it could be the fuel of nightmares. Watch this episode if you dare, and learn how fearful our horde of beloved pets can become.

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay and Elliot both did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally have done, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

And there is the end of year irregular screening to consider. What do you want to see in it?

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzarou hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “Clean Sheets Symbolize Pure Hearts“

Many years after Mujina’s death, Ponko and Ponstin now have a daughter named Tamako. Yachiyo greets a guest called Slurpity Slurp who requests to stay one night in complete privacy. The next day, Ponko investigates Slurpity Slurp’s room when he is overdue for checkout, and is shocked to find his corpse. How to protect the hotel’s reputation?

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Mob 1 ~Moving~“

Mob learns that Tsubomi will be moving the next month, devastating him, but resolving him to ask her out before she does, seeking advice from his friends. Many of the boys in the school have the same thought and begin to all confess their feelings, with Tsubomi rejecting all of them. He decides that even though he doesn’t know why, he’s going to be true to his feelings. Mob calls Tsubomi’s home asking her to meet after school at the park. How stable are the emotions of the strongest psychic on Earth?

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective (“Ameko Takao no Suiri Karte” literally “Ameku Takao’s Mystery Medical Record”)

Dr. Takao Ameku is the brilliant yet eccentric director of investigative pathology at Tenikai General Hospital, in charge of diagnosing patients the other hospital departments cannot. However, due to her love of solving mysteries, Takao also gets involved with mysterious deaths and murders, all while dragging along her assistant Yu Takanashi in her various adventures.

This evening’s Episode: “The Night When the Angels Danced [Part 1]“

Dr. Kumakawa informs Takao three boys named Sekihara, Sakuta and Fuyumoto in room 703 all mysteriously grew sicker shortly before they were supposed to leave the hospital. There are also witnesses who saw an angel near their room. But Takao, who is still upset about Miki, an 8 year old boy with terminal leukemia she couldn’t save, reluctantly agrees to examine the boys.

Run! Flee! They are coming to inflict an irresistible fate. Survivors Kunagi and Kaoru must pass a gauntlet where co-existence with cats is no more. It was not so long ago that they were working at a Cat Cafe, when they witnessed the beginning of the Nyandemic.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “The Stronghold“

Shenmei punishes Suirei for Maomao’s and Kyou-u’s presence in the storehouse. Loulan—Shisui’s real identity—intervenes on their behalf, convincing her mother to take Maomao as an apothecary to develop an immortality drug. At the Shi stronghold, Maomao learns more about their family history. Lahan reports the results of his investigation to Jinshi, revealing unreported expansion in the Shi stronghold, evidence of rebellion.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 3

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Inquiry“

Yang Wen-Li has been ordered back to the capital Heinesson to answer am extra-legal Court of Inquiry. With all its political ramifications and house arrest. Choose your words carefully Yang. What can help his case?

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”) season 2

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Reason: Moonwork“

The younger self narrates that this city was the home of the gods. The events play before Belle. A calamity destroyed the city and the gods evacuated the planet in spaceships, but Belle was left behind on the moon. When she hatched, she played in a amusement park with machines, but when she wanted real companionship, the machines put her in suspended animation until new life could evolve, which took countless eons while the machine in the tree monitored her and was worshiped.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Knight Who Defends an Empty Throne“

Jin-woo starts the job-change quest and is teleported to a massive castle. After fighting waves of knights, assassins, and mages (mimicking enemies he fought previously) he confronts Igris, the Bloodred Knight Commander. Igris matches or exceeds Jin-woo in speed and strength. Meanwhile, the S-rank hunters of Korea head for Jeju Island, which was the site of an S-rank dungeon break years ago.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (“Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”) season 3

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favour, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Warrior’s Commendation“

While battling Lye, Otto learns Felt’s group was looking for a powerful metia, so agrees to stay behind with the city knights to keep him busy while Felt retrieves it. Elsewhere, Capella reveals to Al she’s deduced he is the one responsible for opening the floodgates and killing the Council of Ten, disrupting her plans. Meanwhile, Garfiel continues to fight Kurgan, but is overwhelmed by the warrior, being further distracted by his visions of Elsa.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Cid stays at an inn owned by Marie, the former prostitute from Lawless City. 666, 665, and 664 meet 559 to spy on supporters of Perv Asshat. They witness Queen Reina, 666’s mother, use her royal blood to open a chamber and reveal the Ring of Succession, which is taken by cult officer Kouadoi. Cid mistakenly believes Rose was always plotting to become queen after killing her father and decides to wait until she becomes a tyrant so he can heroically defeat her.
