Screening of Saturday 21st June 2025

JAFWA continues in June (Winter Hours:- 4:15PM->9:45PM)

Now that we approach the deepest, darkest day of Winter, ie the Winter Solstice, know that you can find the welcoming light of an anime screening over at JAFWA.
An important consideration for June is that we are opening nominations for our fully signed up financial members (at least 3 months, and resident of WA) to run in the JAFWA committee members elections.

Remember that in July we will be having our Annual General Meeting and committee elections, as per incorporation rules. What item do you want raised at the AGM, and who of our signed up members wish to run/rule JAFWA?

We continue to explore the world of anime at JAFWA this week. For as you should realise, the Land of the Rising Sun produces so many anime titles each season that we can not hope to keep up with it all. We would struggle even if we restrict ourselves only to the best anime titles. But your beloved committee has found a preview episode for this week, something like a sort of domestic slice of life if a Ninja and an Assassin lived together. What perfect room-mates!

If you would like to showcase the anime that holds great meaning and value to you, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did previously, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• From Thursday June 6^th 2025 — Preview of the second season, of DanDaDan: Evil-Eye will be appearing at various cinemas. You should check if the session is subbed or dubbed.
• Saturday July 12^th 2025, 9AM-12PM — More geeky stuff before JAFWA Nexus Toy & Collectors Fair 34 Kent St, East Victoria Park WA.

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzarou hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “Bow Down Deep But Always Aim High“

With no new guests arriving, Yachiyo and the Prociones resort to performing occult rituals in an attempt to summon more guests. Eventually, Yachiyo gets the idea of launching a satellite into the space in order to better advertise the hotel. Upon hearing this, Ponko also wants to launch and Rods from God armed satellite to protect the hotel from potential invaders.

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Divine Tree 3 ~Dimple is~“

After hearing Dimple’s comment, Mob reaches 100%, but to Dimple’s shock, instead Mob simply releases all of his excess energy into the air, dispersing it all over. Dimple is confused as Mob refuses to fight back when he attempts to attack him, and is further drawn aback when Mob reveals that Dimple has no intention of actually hurting him.

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective (“Ameko Takao no Suiri Karte” literally “Ameku Takao’s Mystery Medical Record”)

Dr. Takao Ameku is the brilliant yet eccentric director of investigative pathology at Tenikai General Hospital, in charge of diagnosing patients the other hospital departments cannot. However, due to her love of solving mysteries, Takao also gets involved with mysterious deaths and murders, all while dragging along her assistant Yu Takanashi in her various adventures.

This evening’s Episode: “Crimson Curse of the Sorcerer“

Sakurai cannot explain how Aoi’s body caught fire while the rest of her house was undamaged while Ikari dies in the hospital at the same time. Murota is convinced Enzo’s curse will kill him next and hides himself away in his office. Yu attends Ikari’s funeral and personally witnesses Ikari’s corpse explode into flames.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Tonight’s Episode: “The Fox Village“

Jinshi searches for Maomao after her disappearance, Guen’s memory of Maomao the cat’s behavior allowing Luomen to uncover a hastily written, hidden message from Maomao, the characters for “shrine” and one that is unclear. At the Jade Pavilion, the ladies-in-waiting suggest the character might be for “jade”, and Seki-u wonders if it might refer to Shisui, whose name shares the pronunciation. Jinshi recalls that Suirei’s name was written with that character. Suirei takes Maomao and Shisui by ship and boat to a remote hot spring village.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 3

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Geier Takes Flight“

The Imperial Chief Engineer Schaft has a daring plan to recapture Iserlohn fortress from the rebellious Free Planets Alliance. Enough to interest Lohengramm? Admiral Kempff gets a chance to redeem his honour. Yang is at Iserlohn getting a few home truths, and family issues.

Bye Bye, Earth (“Bai Bai, Aasu”) season 2

Despite having incredible fighting skills and the strength to wield the enormous sword Runding, Belle Lablac has grown up as an outcast due to being the only human in a world of anthropomorphic animals. Desperate to find a place where she belongs, she goes on a quest to find others like her.

Tonight’s Episode: “Absurdity: Asking the Voices of Swords“

Guinness gives Belle permission to do what she wants, but she chooses to fight with the group. They are attacked by a mermaid zombie with ice powers until Bennett defeats her. Deeper in the tree, a boy zombie attacks the group with soldiers controlled like marionettes until Guinness defeats him. He drops Adonis’ father’s sword. Will Belle finally get answers on what she is and where she came from?

Satoko is a naive kunoichi (female ninja) and Konoha is a high school girl assassin. Satoko escapes from the ninja village, meets Konoha, and they start living together a life full of danger and excitement.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Ninja and an Assassin Meet“

Satoko Kusagakure, a ninja who was roped by her leader into fleeing her village, passes out in an alley and is found by a high school student named Konoha Koga. After the pair have a meal, a ninja assassin from the Kusagakure clan, shows up and attempts to kill Satoko for her desertion, only to be killed herself by Konoha, who reveals herself to be a professional assassin. Konoha is impressed by Satoko’s ability to turn dead bodies and evidence into leaves and decides to have Satoko move into her apartment building as a housekeeper.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “This Is Frustrating“

Jin-woo visits his comatose mother and decides to get stronger so that he can get the needed ingredients to save her. He accepts Jin-ho’s request to aid in the creation of a guild. Due to a shortage of Hunters in the area, the group is rounded out by three imprisoned Hunters, who serve in exchange for reduced sentences. The prisoners are overseen by B-rank Kang Taeshik.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (“Re: Life in a Different World from Zero”) season 3

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favour, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Plan to Conquer Greed“

Capella provokes Felix into attacking her, and after stating she has no idea how to cure dragon’s blood, “Crusch” is revealed to be a disguised Anastasia, blasting Capella down a trap into the underground tunnels, where Al is waiting for her. Meanwhile, Subaru, Emilia, and Reinhard try multiple different attempts to injure Regulus.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “John Smith“

Alpha sends Delta to hunt “John Smith” but Delta realizes “John Smith” is Cid from his scent. Cid claims he is undercover and then temporarily gets rid of Delta by sending her to hunt Juggernaut. Delta’s absence causes Alpha to assume “John Smith” killed her. Alpha and Gettan independently realize “John Smith” is planning a bank run.
