JAFWA continues at May’s end

The month of May comes to an end, and as we felt last week, Winter has finally come to JAFWA. So we look to regularity to fortify our appreciation of anime.
Firstly, during the Dinner Break we will have a survey on current and recent preview shows to determine their popularity in a scalar fashion.
Secondly, after the usual Door Prize draw (where you can buy extra door prize tickets) we will have the monthly Member’s Prize draw (which gets you entries based on how many times you attended JAFWA screenings this month).

This week JAFWA will add a bit of warmth to the program. We will have a preview item, in time for the survey, to take you on a Journey beyond your comfort zone. And then we have an uncommon screening of a theatrical length movie, where a certain cultural phenomena will be animated.

Remember that in July we will be having our AGM and committee elections. What item do you want raised at the AGM, and who of our signed up members wish to run/rule JAFWA?

If you strongly feel that JAFWA is neglecting certain well-deserving anime, please offer to sponsor a night of JAFWA and screen your favourites. If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did last year, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

• Weekend September 13^th and 14^th 2025, 0900-1800 — Self-Described as WA’s biggest gaming and animation expo is Pixel Expo: IV at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Remember to make time to come to JAFWA.

Apocalypse Hotel

There is a solitary hotel in Tokyo’s Ginza district. After society has collapsed, humanity has disappeared, and nature has begun to reclaim most of the land. Despite the lack of guests, Yachiyo is a hotel management robot who continues to manage the Ginzarou hotel alongside other robots.

This Evening’s Episode: “Provide Unlimited Hospitality In Limited Time“

Two new alien guests arrive at the hotel, following the recommendation of the first alien guest that had stayed there. While the new guests enjoy their time at the hotel, they consume the last the stored alcohol. There is the possibility of making whiskey, due a shortage of labor, she cannot making whiskey until the hotel’s hot spring is completed.

Mob Psycho 100 III

Shigeo Kageyama’s nickname is “Mob”. A slang term for a background character, someone who doesn’t stand out. In truth he is an incredibly powerful psychic who has suppressed his emotions in order to avoid causing a catastrophe. Mob would like nothing better than to live a normal life and have feelings just like anyone else, but with his incredible psychic powers there’s no telling what might happen if he did.

This Evening’s Episode: “Divine Tree 1 ~The Founder Appears~“

At school Mob asks Mezato why she didn’t show up the previous day, which she claims is because the “true leader” of the Psycho Helmets appeared, so he doesn’t have to worry anymore. After eating a cookie given to him by members of the Psycho Helmets, Teru suddenly begins to praise the Divine Tree and its leader, before then vomiting it back up, realizing the attempt at brainwashing him. Having realized that the Divine Tree’s roots have been spreading throughout the city, causing people to call his office for this problem, Reigen gets Mob to help find a way to destroy the tree.

Chika Suzugamori is a college student who has been shopping some manga pitches around to publishers ever since she won a rookie manga award, but keeps getting rejected. Just as she was about to lose hope in ever breaking into the manga industry, she decides on a whim to go traveling without any particular goal.. During her journey, Chika meets different people, experiences local cultures, and finds new inspiration for her manga.

This evening’s Episode: “The First 1225 Steps“

Chika Suzugamori, a college student who dreams of becoming a mangaka, tells her story. After failing multiple times to get her work serialized, Chika feels stressed and decides to go on a trip to escape. Without much planning, she holds a poll on social media to choose her destination, leading her to an unexpected place across Japan.

movie – Totto-chan – The Little Girl at the Window (Madogiwa no Totto-chan)

This is an autobiographical memoir written by Japanese television personality and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. After hearing about how children were refusing to attend school, Tetsuko decided to write about her experience attending Tomoe Gakuen.[4] Totto-chan was originally published in Japan as a series of articles in Kodansha’s Young Woman magazine appearing from February 1979 through December 1980. The articles were then collected into a book, which made Japanese publishing history by selling more than 5 million before the end of 1982, which made the book break all previous publishing records and become the bestselling book in Japanese history. It tells Kuroyanagi’s story as a child (nicknamed Totto) of going to Tomoe Gakuen, and learning new things as Japan descends into war.

Tonight’s: “2023 movie“

Totto-chan is a rambunctious seven-year-old girl, perpetually excited by the world around her. However, when this “excitement” sees her kicked out of her local public school, she starts going to a new type of school where the children are free to explore whatever interests them. Here, Totto-chan starts to thrive—even as Japan plunges into the depths of the Second World War.

Solo Leveling

It’s been over a decade since the sudden appearance of the “gates”—the paths that connect our world with a different dimension. Since then, certain humans have awakened to supernatural powers. We call these individuals “hunters.” Hunters make their living by using their powers to conquer dungeons inside the gates. Notoriously weak hunter named Sung Jin-woo gets a unique opportunity to get stronger.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Real Hunt Begins“

Jin-woo successfully defeats the boss, much to Jin-ho’s shock. When Dongsuk and his group re-enter the boss room, they attempt to coerce Jin-ho into killing Jin-woo, but Jin-ho refuses. Jin-woo receives a new quest to kill Dongsuk’s group under penalty of death.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!) season 2

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mask of Falsehood“

Garter, President of Major Corporate Alliance (MCA) who controls trade in Midgar via organized crime, goes to war with Mitsugoshi, a Shadow Garden fashion company. Alpha hopes killing Garter’s thugs will force Cultists within MCA to reveal themselves. Cid deduces Shadow Garden owns Mitsugoshi and makes new enemies without telling him. Believing Shadow Garden may be going too far Cid arranges the secret meeting with Yukime to discuss putting Mitsugoshi and Garter out of business as a warning to Shadow Garden, whilst making vast profits for himself and Yukime.
