JAFWA continues in April

Hope you survived the week off, for now the April is upon us. If you are in Japan you will be appreciating the Sakura blooming, celebrating the unfolding of Spring. If you are in Perth, then attend JAFWA for your dose of Japanese culture.

This week we have our regular program reaching the final episodes of several of our regular items, thus we have room this week for a double episode of “DanDaDan” (with naked and semi-naked characters) and two preview episode. The preview episodes might demonstrate (you decide) that the isekai boom might be scraping the bottom of the barrel, with one show explosively combines sentai and isekai, while the second show does not have your typical type of protagonist, even though the rest of the isekai staples are liberally applied.
This month we are reaching the end of several of our regular series, so the survey at the end of this month will be of particular importance in helping to select all the new regular series starting in May.

Both Elliot and Greg have provided little 2 minute shows that you might be interested in.

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like both Lindsay and Elliot did last year, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, as Greg and Sally did, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan and inform us in advance please.

The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash (“Saijaku Teimaa wa Gomihiroi no Tabi o Hajimemashita”)

Young Ivy can’t catch a break. Though she has a few memories of her past life, she was reborn into an RPG-like world in the weakest class, and worse, as the weakest rank. As a no-star Tamer, even her parents want nothing to do with her, and she soon realizes she must survive on her own. She learns to live off the land and salvage what she can from other people’s leavings. But when Ivy manages to tame Sora, a lowly slime, everything changes for both of them. There’s something special about this frail little monster, and Ivy’s care will bring out the best in both of them.

This Evening’s Episode: “Into Battle“

At the sweets place, Ivy and Lattrua pretend to fall into Green Gale’s trap knowing that the owner Hagg is a traitor. They talk about a special mission while Hagg prepares the sweets and after Hagg leaves, Lattrua outs the truth about Green Gale working for the organization. Meanwhile, Faltoria arrives at the organization’s base to order his watchmen to empty the secret room. Outside of town, Burksby leads the special unit far enough away from town, so he and Borolda can capture the traitors.

Dr Stone season 4 “Science Future”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. After the battle on Treasure Island, Senku and the gang return to the Kingdom of Science. With their sights set on the Moon, they must first voyage to the Americas in hopes of beginning to harvest the required materials. Through teamwork and science, they continue the fight to save humanity once and for all.

This Evening’s Episode: “Dirty Roads“

In need of parts to construct the drill, Taiju drives the mobile lab with equipment to Chrome’s team. Along the way, he picks up Carlos, one of Xeno’s two spies keeping an eye on the Perseus, knowing they’d tail him if he didn’t. On the ship, Senku continues to give instructions to convert the boat into an aircraft carrier, causing Luna to fall in love with him. Having been wearing the radio earring the whole time, Gen breaks the number code for his understanding while Xeno’s team finishes their new weapon.

The Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto) season 2

Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favourite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

This evening’s Episode: “The Late Emperor“

Maomao is summoned by Shenlü, the clinic supervisor she met when she accompanied Ailan to the clinic. Apologizing to her for her attitude towards her the other day, she asks for help with a sick servant from the Wise Consort Lihua’s pavilion, whose request for sick leave had been ignored by higher-ups despite showing symptoms of a contagious illness and has gone missing for half a month.

preview – The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World (aka Sentai Red Isekai de Boukensha ni Naru)

Leading a sentai team on Earth, T?go Asagaki has the ability to change into the superhero Kizuna Red. He unintentionally gets warped into a fantastical world after the final Boss Battle. Unable to find a way home, he becomes an Adventurer but his transformation, powers, weapons, and ability to summon a mecha, and winning explosions are not magical in nature and make no sense to magic users.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Red Ranger and the Mage“

The Kizuna Five battles the supervillain Breakup King and his forces. Kizuna Red is forced to face Breakup King alone, but after an explosion, he wakes up in a fantasy world. Six months later, Yihdra Arvoln and her butler Poseidon test adventurers with her golem, disappointed by how weak they are. T?go Asagaki arrives and mistakes the golem for an enemy and attacks it.

Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”) season 2

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.
As Aqua continues his quest to find his father—the puppet master behind his mother’s murder—within the Japanese entertainment industry, he finds himself acting in a stage play based on the wildly popular manga Tokyo Blade. Surrounded by competent professionals— including his friends Kana and Akane—it looks like this will be one of his easier jobs… If only things could be that easy.

Tonight’s Episode: “Liberation“

Half-brother Taiki reveals that his mother was Airi Himekawa, a well known actress, while his father was another actor named Seijuurou Uehara. However, both of them died in a double suicide many years ago. This revelation causes Aqua to live his life free of his obsession for revenge. Meanwhile, MEM-cho brainstorms with Ruby and Kana on how to get one million subscribers for B-Komachi’s YouTube channel.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) season 3

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a fantasy world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers.

Tonight’s Episode: “Justice VS Justice“

Itsuki the Bow Hero realises Naofumi’s plan, and wanting to punish him for his supposed crimes, attacks him with his new “Justice Bow”, affected by the Curse of Pride. Itsuki declares his version of “justice” and his intent to rid evil, revealing his bow’s new power and its capability to brainwash others. Rishia stands firm and fights Itsuki, demonstrating her significant growth.

preview – No Longer Allowed in Another World (aka Isekai Shikkaku)

A second life in another world with cute girls by your side and video-gamey powers–sounds like a dream. Not so for a certain melancholy author, who would quite literally rather drop dead. Honestly, all the fantastical adventure is just getting in the way of his poetic dream of finding the perfect place to die. But no matter how much he risks his hide, everything seems to keep turning out okay.

Tonight’s Episode: “I Must Commit Double-Suicide!“

Sensei and his girlfriend Sacchan make a suicide pact, but before they can do anything, they are hit by a truck. Sensei wakes up in a temple where the elf priestess Annette says she summoned him as a hero to take on the Dark Lord. She is shocked when she checks his stats and finds he has no increased physical traits or special skills. He is uninterested in being a hero and attempts suicide.

Overlord season 4

With his foundations now set in this new world, the first steps of Ains Ooal Gown’s master plan apparent begin to come to fruition. The value of Carne village and especially the political value of his alter ego Momon are reaffirmed; the “hidden” genius of his actions is continuously met with shock and awe by Demiurge, Albedo, the rest of his guardians, and even Ains himself at his “great wisdom.” His attempts to act in a way befitting the ruler of Nazarick, continuing to further cement his guardian’s loyalty, push him ever further down the path of not-so-intentional world domination.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Last King“

Ainz, recognising the armour from YGGDRASIL, lets E-Naeul survive and moves his army to the Re-Estize capital to destroy it. The Blue Roses and Drop of Red, are summoned to meet a special forces group from the Theocracy, the Black Scripture, who ask them to switch loyalty to the Theocracy to fight Ainz. Prince Zanac meets with Ainz and demands to know why Ainz has ignored his attempts to surrender, and Ainz replies honestly.

DanDaDan

Takakura, an occult maniac who doesn’t believe in ghosts, and Ayase, a girl who doesn’t believe in aliens, try to overcome their differences when they encounter the paranormal.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Merge! Serpo Dover Demon Nessie!” and “I’ve Got This Funny Feeling“

Aira, with her Acrobatic Sily powers, deals with the Mantis Shrimp and Serpoians as a naked Okarun joins her in the fight, with Momo later arriving to provide support and they defeat the Serpo-controlled Mantis Shrimp. All the combatants are then alarmed by the realm turning into water and the arrival of the plesiosaur, which Okarun recognizes as “Nessie”, as it slowly kills off the Serpoians. Stripping down to reduce drag in the water, they battle to defeat their foes, finally returning to their real school. Leading to terrible misunderstandings due to their close connection and lack of clothes. There is a lot of misunderstandings to fix.
