Screening of Saturday 22nd June 2024

Screening on the evening of Saturday, June 22nd 2024

A fixture of the Perth fandom scene for many years, and a long-time supporter of JAFWA, we are saddened by the news that Tokyo Underground is closing. Their final day of trading has probably now passed, as they have to vacate premises at the end of this month, June 30th. Bronwyn and her shop shall be missed.

The Japanese Film Festival is showing a series of Japanese movies online, including the live-action “ANIME SUPREMACY!” (2022 / Drama, Anime, Business) a delightful story about people pouring their passion into anime production.

JAFWA‘s June program has stabilised, unlike the financial situation at Studio Gainax (they declared bankruptcy if you hadn’t heard). So many wonderful memories and experience their anime brought to JAFWA audiences, and yet from the ashes of their anime empire is it possible that new wonderful anime arise, as their animators go to other studios? We shall eventually see, but for now it is the winter of our discontent.

Just out of curiousity, which of the following Studio Gainax works that we have shown at JAFWA have you enjoyed (and maybe want to see again?):

If you don’t want to sponsor an entire night like Lindsay did in March, and the one coming in November, there is the other scheme for our signed up members. On the night nearest your birthday, you can nominate something to play during the Dinner Break (limited to 30 minutes max). You may have to help us source this material, so plan in advance please.

The other big decision coming up is the JAFWA annual election to be held during the Dinner Break of the JAFWA screening of July 20th. This will be later in the evening after the AGM that we need all signed up JAFWA members to attend when it starts in the afternoon at 2PM in the same Hall.
