We are rapidly running out of November, Spring and regular JAFWA screenings for 2023!
It has been a glorious year so far, with more to come in 2024.

This week, as we have our penultimate regular screening if this year, along with our regular program we will screen another preview episode, to broaden our knowledge of anime released in Japan. It will involve Love, Obsession and Reincarnation (but not isekai!), and the setup in the first episode is so long it is a movie length episode.

We have almost filled in the program for the final, irregular screening of 2023 in December. Last chance to send in your suggestions and help decide the last couple of uncertainties.

Dates of Interest

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• Saturday November 25^th 2023 — from 1PM, JAFWA having an Event Arvo in the Hall of “make your own fun” before the regular screening.
• Saturday December 9^th 2023 — JAFWA’s final screening for 2023 before we take a holiday. This will be a normal length screening with an irregular program. We request that you, the audience, suggest anime items for inclusion in that night’s program.
• Saturday December 16^th 2023 — JAFWA doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle down at Cannington.
• Saturday January 13^th 2024 — JAFWA’s screening resume in 2024.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”

Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.

This evening’s Episode: “Deal Game, Test of Wit “

Senku begins reviving the rest of the crew just as Amaryllis arrives with news of Kohaku and Ginro’s petrification and that Soyuz is likely the Master’s son. Senku and the others deduce there is only one Medusa weapon, but due to the range of its attack, it risks petrifying the one who activates it, hence why Ibara daren’t use it himself and forces Kirisame to instead. Moz appears in the cave at that moment, but in a moment of extremely rapid deduction, everyone realises Moz knew Kohaku and Ginro were intruders yet never told Ibara. Using every mentalist trick he knows, Gen seeks to save the day.

Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mah? Tsukai no Yome)

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.

The female werewolf mourns her husband while her dreams reveal they only attacked the college because Lizbeth kidnapped their children. With the college completely sealed the students are put to work digging vegetable patches to grow the food they need. Alcyone reveals violence always makes Philomena feel ill. Simeon recovers. Everyone is stressed from being trapped in the college. As a distraction they play with wooden puzzle blocks, competing to open them the fastest with magic. While discussing music with Simeon Elias realises he doesn’t know if Chise likes music, or any of her likes and dislikes. Encountering Elias Alcyone believes he is a summoned being like her; Elias is certain he is not but their similarities are remarkable.

preview – Oshi no Ko (“My Favorite Idol” or “Their Idol’s Children”)

Goro Amemiya works as an OB-GYN in a small rural town and is a huge fan of upcoming idol Ai Hoshino. After an unexpected meeting, Goro ends up dying suddenly only to be reborn as one of Ai’s children; a boy named Aquamarine Hoshino (or Aqua for short). He and his twin sister Ruby then grows up as one of show-biz’s biggest secrets.

Tonight’s Episode: “Mother and Children“

Dr. Gorou Amamiya is an avid fan of the idol Ai Hoshino, spurred on partly due to her being the favorite idol of a deceased patient of his named Sarina Tendouji. Gorou is shocked when Ai quietly arrives at his rural hospital 20 weeks pregnant with twins. On her due date, Gorou is killed by Ai’s stalker Ryosuke. He then wakes up and discovers he has been reborn as Ai’s son Aquamarine and lives together with her and his twin sister Ruby. Ruby herself is the reincarnation of Sarina.

In/Spectre season 2 (Kyok? Suiri)

When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He’s surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Sleeping Murder“

The Otonashi family have found the perpetrator and reason for their Matriarch’s death all those years ago, but Kotoko is about to burst that bubble. For she had supernatural witnesses. But how to deal with the fallout? Fortunately Kotoko has supernatural assistance. Don’t mess with Kotoko Iwanaga.

The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!)

Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.

Tonight’s Episode: “The Sacred Land, City of Deception“

Cid is contacted by Alpha, who requests he visit the sacred city of Lindwurm. Beta, Epsilon and Nu also receive a mission from Alpha. While in Lindwurm themselves to attend the upcoming Goddess Trial, Alexia and Iris visit Cid’s department store, where Alexia, planning to try to seduce Cid. In Lindwurm, Cid sees Beta in her persona as the popular author Natsume, who became famous by publishing stories he told her from his past life’s world, such as “Cinderella”, “Romeo and Juliet” and “Star Wars”.

Vinland Saga

Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.

Tonight’s Episode: “Hometown” / “Home” season 2 (final)

Leif’s boat with Thorfinn and Einar aboard arrives at Thorfinn’s village in Iceland, but no-one recognizes him, not even his sister Ylva. However, Thorfinn’s mother Helga verifies who he is and eventually he is accepted back into the family and his village.
