Screening on the evening of Saturday, October 28th 2023
Welcome to the end of October (after the Japanese Film Festival), when we will be having our Monthly Survey, where our dear JAFWAites can express their opinion on the various programs previewed and other suggested possibilities, utilising a scalar grading system.
And later, we have the monthly Member’s Prize Draw, with so much good stuff to choose from for the Winner.
This week we will screen another preview episode, to broaden our knowledge of anime released in Japan. This will be an ancient Chinese palace themed mystery / romance.
Though perhaps more people will also be approving that we will be starting to regularly show new episode from the latest season of “Dr Stone” and “Spy x Family”.
We are still trying to fill the program for the final screening of 2023 in December. What do you want to see?
And could I ask you to write down your suggestions so that I don’t lose them this time. (sorry)

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:
- Weekend November 3rd to 5th 2023 — Kai-Con 2023.
- Saturday December 9th 2023 — JAFWA’s final screening for 2023 before we take a holiday. This will be a normal length screening with an irregular program. We request that you, the audience, suggest anime items for inclusion in that night’s program.
- Saturday December 16th 2023 — JAFWA doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle down at Cannington.
- Saturday January 13th 2024 — JAFWA’s screening resume in 2024.

Dr Stone season 3 “New World”
Modern society is lost when a mysterious light leaves everyone petrified in stone. Thousands of years in the future, super genius Senku awakens and begins restoring civilisation with his Kingdom of Science. With the Stone Wars over, the former members of Tsukasa’s Empire of Might join forces with the Kingdom of Science to build a ship capable of sailing across open ocean to seek answers on the mystery of the global petrification. However, before they can begin their voyage Senku and his friends need to find some key resources and push some new scientific advancements to build the type of vessel they need.
This evening’s Episode: “The Kingdom of Science’s Counterattack ”
To improve his drone Senku decides to revive Kaseki first but realises guards are throwing all their friends smashed statues into the ocean. This means they will first require Ryusui to dive and retrieve them. Ibara has taken Ryusui to the citadel and begins smashing him to pieces, hoping to provoke enemy infiltrators to reveal themselves. Kohaku diverts suspicion by destroying Ryusui herself, knowing he can be revived as long as he is rebuilt first.
Spy x Family part 2b
In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.
This evening’s Episode: “Follow Mama and Papa ”
While terminating the extremist group Red Circus, Yor is shot and wounded in her rear side. The next day, Loid takes her on a date, believing her painful mood is his fault, while Anya and Franky tail them. Yor’s constant pain prevents her from enjoying the date, foiling Loid’s plans.
preview – Apothecary Diaries (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto)
Apothecary Maomao was just out collecting herbs when she was kidnapped by procurers for the Imperial harem, an easy way for unscrupulous people to get money by having “relatives” go work in the Rear Palace. Hiding her skills and knowledge, Maomao hopes to just glide by, earning as little as possible for her kidnappers during her term of service, but such is not to be: when royal infants begin dying, Maomao can’t resist letting people know the cause. This catches the eye of the far-too-handsome Jinshi, who elevates Maomao from laundry maid to poison taster to the Emperor’s favorite concubine. So much for flying under the radar…

Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)
Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.
Tonight’s Episode: “A small leak will sink a great ship. I”
Philomena is saddened the scent of Chise’s tea is starting to fade. Elias decides to solve the Grimoire mystery before Chise does something dangerous. Chise is astonished Elias considers Simeon a friend. Philomena is able to ask Chise to refresh her tea. In Rune Class Chise is drawn to the protective rune Thurisaz which represents Thorns and is dangerous for humans. Chise returns to Elias shortcut to pay her bribe owed to the hounds, three sheep.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)
An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.
Tonight’s Episode: “Their Choice ”
Miorine recruits the members of Earth House for the new company and makes it their base of operations. To learn more about the GUND format technology, she consults with both Prospera and Belmeria for information but both she and the rest of her companions are at doubt about working in a company that sells weapons.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2
Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were not always enemies. Long before they had what was supposed to be their final encounter during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, the pair were fellow students, rivals, and friends. In another world, they would have been the twin shining stars of Jujutsu Sorcery, but one fateful event destroyed any hope of that ever happening. Turn back the clock to witness the mission that drove them to curse one another beyond even death.
Tonight’s Episode “The Shibuya Incident” season 2
Gojo enters the subway crowded with civilians where he confronts the curses Jogo, Hanami, and Choso. Meanwhile, Yuji accompanies Mei Mei and her brother Ui Ui, who proceed elsewhere above ground to deal with a newly discovered veil. They discover the appearance of transfigured humans, causing Yuji to realize Mahito is around.
In/Spectre season 2 (Kyokou Suiri)
When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He’s surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.
This evening’s Episodes: “Uninvited Judge”
Kyoko reiterates that she does not care about the sins of the 3 heirs of the Otonashi Group, But does require them to determine how President Otonashi killed his wife Sumi. The Goddess of Wisdom Kotoko carefully guides them to her prepared solution. Young Rion may be the one to find the answer about the victim, the grandmother she never met.
The Eminence in Shadow (Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute!)
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one. And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest.
Tonight’s Episode: “Dark Knight Academy Under Attack” and “The End of a Lie”
Cid reveals that he was excited by the chance to look cool fighting terrorists, and saved Rose merely to appear heroic; Rose, meanwhile, mistakenly believes Cid sacrificed himself out of love for her. After the students are taken to the auditorium, leaving Cid’s body in the classroom, Cid secretly revives and heals himself. Rex attacks Sherry to retrieve the relic, which appears to be the control for the Eye of Avarice that is generating the barrier. Sherry activates the control relic, deactivating the Eye and its barrier. Cid arrives disguised as Eminence in Shadow, and Shadow Garden begins slaughtering the terrorists. Iris, believing that Shadow Garden is responsible for the attack, is enraged by their appearance.
Vinland Saga
Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.
Tonight’s Episode: “The King of Rebellion” season 2
Drott begins punching Thorfinn who manages to absorb and deflect most of the powerful blows, until Snake arrives, distracting him and he is knocked down by Drott after 32 blows. However, Thorfinn gets up and withstands another 68 blows until Drott collapses from exhaustion.
