Event Afternoon before JAFWA Screening
JAFWA has the hall from about 1PM to 3:30PM, where it is make our own amusement time.
Does anyone want hall space for nerf gun battles? Bring your own ping-pong? Table top games? Does anybody have their own game machine and games they want their fellow JAFWAites to play? JAFWA will bring out the projector and screen. I am not certain we have access to the outdoor area, but we will try to keep you off the street.
In the past people have brought along video games and the hardware to play them, and sewing machines for cosplay creating. What do you want to do? Just so long as it fun, legal, ethical, and we don’t scuff the floor of the Hall.
Sally has advised that she is going to try cooking hamburgers. Willing (or not) volunteers required for taste testing.

And I think we all know what that means – this week we have our Monthly Survey, where our dear JAFWAites can express their opinion on the various programs previewed and other suggested possibilities, utilising a scalar grading system.
And later, we have the monthly Member’s Prize Draw.
While “City Hunter” does feature a charcater with excessive libido and no shame from before the #MeToo generation, it does appear that it was only the first episode that contained excessive inappropriate material.
This week’s episode of “Golden Kamuy” will be the last one shown, until the next series is animated. For those of use who have read ahead with the managa in the JAFWA library, we do so want the battle of Sapporo Beer factory to be animated.
This week will also preview an episode of anime from Japan from a few years back – a slice of life with outdoors camping.
We are trying to fill the program for the final screening of 2023 in December, What do you want to see?
Looking for volunteers to help with some extra-curricular activities for JAFWA. First, in October there is a fund-raising sausage sizzle at Bunnings Cannington. Then JAFWA is doing the anime screening at Kai-Con 2023.
Be aware that an anime movie has started screening at select Perth cinemas. “The First Slam Dunk” movie brings all the anime excitement of High-School basketball.

- Weekend September 2nd and 3rd 2023 — Evolve pop culture festival in Cannington, behind Bunnings.
- Saturday October 7th 2024 — JAFWA doing a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle down at Cannington.
- October 16th to 22nd 2023 — Japanese Film Festival will be screening in Perth.
- Weekend November 3rd to 5th 2023 — Kai-Con 2023.
- Saturday December 9th 2023 — JAFWA’s final screening for 2023 before we take a holiday. This will be a normal length screening with an irregular program. We request that you, the audience, suggest anime items for inclusion in that night’s program.
- Saturday January 13th 2024 — JAFWA’s screening resume in 2024.

The Devil is a Part-Timer season 3 (Hataraku Maou-sama)
Having been thwarted in his attempts to conquer Ente Isla, the mighty demon lord Satan escapes through a portal with his general Alciel… And winds up in modern day Tokyo with very little magical power left. His resources for world domination now consist of a tiny rented apartment and a job at a fast food restaurant. To survive and find a way to return to Ente Isla, Satan adopts the name Sadao Maou and finds that the Hero Emilia is in similar circumstances. And now they have to look after a very special child.
This evening’s Episode: “The Devil Gets Off to a Late Start”
At school Chiho-san sees a demon from the Malebranche and tries to inform Maou-san. While at the Moped licence test, Maou-san meets Alas Ramus’ little sister Acieth Alla. And they have an unexpected connection to Emilia Justina. And how will Ashiya explain to Miss Suzuki what she just saw? And then it gets more complicated and threatening.
Ningen Fushin – aka Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai o Sukuu You Desu)
Veteran adventurer Nick’s life is falling apart. Despite all the knowledge and expertise he’s devoted to his adventuring party, his respected leader kicked him out, his girlfriend dumped him, and his teammates shamelessly accused him of embezzlement. Tired, heartbroken, and looking for a drink, Nick chances upon a few kindred spirits who are jaded as he is. Together, these disillusioned adventurers form an unstoppable team out to save their bleak, depressing world.
This evening’s Episode: “Mathematics Bare Knuckle”
It is explained Bare Knuckle Mathematics involves ten rounds of brawling. Nick and Leon fight while Curran and Claudine solve maths questions to end each round. Whoever gets the most questions correct earns their fighter a free punch to their opponent. Curran panics as she is bad at maths.
preview – Laid-back Camp ( Yurukyan or Yuru Camp)
Set in and around Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, the series chronicles the adventures of Rin Shima, Nadeshiko Kagamihara, and their friends as they travel to various campsites across the country. Rin enjoys camping by the lakeshore, Mt. Fuji in view. Nadeshiko rides her bike to see Mt. Fuji, too. As the two eat cup noodles together, they behold the beautiful scenery around them.
This evening’s Episode: “Mount Fuji and Curry Noodles”
A girl named Rin Shima comes to a campsite in Lake Motosu, facing opposite Mount Fuji, to spend the day camping. While setting up a campfire, Rin notices a peculiar girl sleeping by the public restroom. Later that night, Rin once again comes across the girl, later introducing as Nadeshiko Kagamihara, who had gotten tired from bicycling toward the area after just moving to a new house, and shares her curry noodles with her before they both get a clear view of Mount Fuji.
Ancient Magus Bride season 2 (Mahou Tsukai no Yome)
Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money … not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. Now grown more confident in her role as a sleigh beggy, Chise was able to accept Elias and herself, if not necessarily everything about her situation. After Cartaphilus fell back into a slumber that would not last forever, Chise was able to go back to her regular life. Then she receives an invitation from a mutual aid organization for mages called the College.
Tonight’s Episode: “The cowl does not make the monk.”
Chise meets Rahab, Lindel’s master, who summoned her. Angelica visits Elias. Rahab reveals Elias lived with her for decades learning about humans, but he always failed to understand emotions so he could only imitate human behaviour. Elias explains his growing worry to Angelica about Chise’s habit of confronting danger, even giving her his precious silver necktie hoping by trying to avoid breaking it she will start avoiding danger.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Kidou Senshi Gandamu: Suisei no Majo)
An era when a multitude of corporations have entered space and built a huge economic system. A lone girl from the remote planet Mercury transfers to the Asticassia School of Technology, run by the Beneritt Group which dominates the mobile suit industry. Her name is Suletta Mercury. With a scarlet light burning in her pure heart, this girl walks step by step through a new world.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Witch and the Bride ”
Suletta Mercury is in transit to the Asticassia School of Technology when she notices a stranded astronaut and takes off in her Gundam Aerial to rescue them. However, the astronaut headbutts her in the cockpit, claiming she was trying to escape. Suletta finally arrives at the school to discover the girl she rescued was Miorine Rembran, forces in an unhappy marriage-to-be with ill-tempered duelist Guel Jeturk. Miorine will steal Suletta’s mobile suit to duel for her freedom.
Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 3
Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.
Tonight’s Episode: “Mist Hashira Muichiro Tokito ” Swordsmith Village arc
While confronting Gyokko, Muichiro succeeds in insulting his art, enraging him. After his Blood Demon Arts are overpowered, he reveals his true form. Elsewhere, Tanjiro struggles with Zohakuten, having his eardrums ruptured and his left foot crushed by the dragons using the clones’ abilities.
Jujutsu Kaisen season 2
Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto were not always enemies. Long before they had what was supposed to be their final encounter during the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons, the pair were fellow students, rivals, and friends. In another world, they would have been the twin shining stars of Jujutsu Sorcery, but one fateful event destroyed any hope of that ever happening. Turn back the clock to witness the mission that drove them to curse one another beyond even death.
Tonight’s Episode “Hidden Inventory 3” season 2
After learning of Kuroi’s abduction by the Time Vessel Association, Gojo, Geto, and Riko effortlessly storm their base in Okinawa to rescue her and decide to spend the time waiting out the bounty’s deadline by hanging out on the island.
In/Spectre season 2 (Kyokou Suiri)
When she was still just a girl, Kotoko was kidnapped by yokai. These spirits made her into a powerful intermediary between the spirit and human worlds, but this power came at a price: an eye and a leg. Now, years later, she watches out for dangerous yokai while developing feelings for a young man named Kuro, who is also special: an incident with a yokai has given him healing powers. He’s surprised when Kotoko asks him to team up to handle renegade yokai, preserving the thin line between reality and the supernatural.
This evening’s Episodes: “Rikka Returns”
Kuro’s cousin Rikka, with the same yokai powers as he, continues to evade Kotoko, plotting and doing who knows what? But Sakurawagawa Rikka is not wanting to be found, and using her powers to be well off. We find out why she so much trouble during the first series.
Golden Kamuy
Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Vanished Kamuy” season 4 finale
Usami tells Kikuta that Ogata killed his half-brother, Leiutenant Yuusaku Hanazawa, during the Battle of Hill 203 to determine if his father, General Hanazawa, really loved him. Meanwhile, Asirpa speculates that the Ainu name that her mother gave to her father, Aca, is somehow embedded in the code, but fears that if she finds the gold, Sugimoto will leave her. Botaro has deduced that Asirpa is Noppera-bo’s daughter and so Shiraishi tells him to show her the gold coin he found in Lake Shikotsu with tattoo-like Ainu markings.
Vinland Saga
Set in Dane-controlled England at the start of the 11th century, and features the Danish invaders of England commonly known as Vikings. The story combines a dramatisation of King Cnut the Great’s historical rise to power with a revenge plot centered on the historical explorer Thorfinn, the son of a murdered ex-warrior.
Tonight’s Episode: “Storm” season 2
As a storm approaches, Arnheid walks to the retainer’s camp to visit Gardar and treat his wounds. She is immobilized by guilt over what has happened to her, but Gardar suddenly leaps up, and although still bound, bites the guard’s throat, killing him. He convinces Arnheid to cut the ropes, whereupon he slays the remaining guards and escapes with her on foot. Einar and Thorfinn discuss how to stop the cycle of war and slavery, but Thorfinn does not see how things can change while Norse men gain respect through their physical prowess and success in battle.
