The month of March has passed so quickly (and enjoyably)! You have spent the afternoon at Perth Japan Festival, and now the evening watching anime with your fellow otaku.
Once more it is time for the monthly JAFWA Member’s Prize. Please attend in order to receive it promptly should you be drawn as our fortunate winner. (every attendance this month improves your chance)
Also of importance this week, is our monthly survey to see what anime is popular at JAFWA. Please fill in each of the scalar ranked survey forms and bias JAFWA’s future programming direction. For instance, I suspect that several of last week’s viewers may rank “High Card” rather highly. Will you aid or dilute them?
But in general we continue our new regular program anime goodness, with the exception that this week we have slipped in a sample of anime as yet unseen at JAFWA with the first episode of “Tomo-chan is a Girl“. And try not to be too sad that this week we finish the the third season of “Golden Kamuy” (though the 4th is around the corner).
It may be of interest to our members, but Luna Leederville cinemas is introducing Monday Double Features, which includes a couple of Mondays with anime.
The next fundraising for JAFWA at Cannington Bunnings sausage sizzle is scheduled for Saturday May 6th, and we would appreciate a volunteer or 3 to help out.

Do It Yourself (Yofukashi no Uta)
Serufu Yua (pronounced “yourself”) is a laid back first year high-school student, very accident-prone and is known for having a perfect attendance record at the nurse’s office. She fails to get into Yuyu Girls’ Vocational High School for technology with her best friend Miku Suride, instead getting into the lower class Gatagata Girls’ High School. But there is a student club that may catch her attention.
This evening’s Episodes: “Does ‘DIY’ Mean Why Did You Suddenly Show Up?”
A young transfer student from America shows up at the DIY Club. However, her opinions that technology is superior to DIY leads her to squabble with Rei. The next day, Serufu, noticing that the girl is likely feeling lonely, gets her to do some DIY, revealing that she actually likes it.
Bocchi the Rock
Extremely anxious and socially awkward Hitori Got? longs to become a rock musician in spite of her struggles, whilst fulfilling her desires to one day make friends. She is even given a chance to do so after she is taken in by Nijika Ijichi to become a member of the newly formed Kessoku Band.
This evening’s Episode: “Be Right There”
Bocchi tries to work up the nerve to ask her classmate, Ikuyo Kita, to be the vocalist and backup guitarist. Ikuyo wants Bocchi’s help in learning how to play the guitar to get closer to her senior bandmate.
preview – Tomo-chan is a Girl! (Tomo-chan wa Onnanoko!)
Tomo and Jun have been best buds since they were little kids, but now that they’re in high school, Tomo wants to be more than friends…… too bad Jun just sees her as ‘one of the guys.’ Tomo may be a tomboy, but she’s determined to prove to Jun that she’s a woman, too.
This evening’s Episode: “I Want to Be Seen as a Girl! / A Terrifying Challenge”
Tomo Aizawa, a tomboy, unsuccessfully confesses her love to her childhood friend Junichiro Kubota. Later on, after Tomo asks her best friend Misuzu Gundou for advice, she tries to change the way she talks with Junichiro, but they instead fight. Carol Olston, an English classmate, is popular with the boys. After Tomo runs into Carol and Kosuke in the hallway, Carol begins to see her as a rival. Misuzu sends Carol to Junichiro, giving Tomo the motivation to go after him.
retro item – Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki
Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko, from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.
Tonight’s movie: “Mihoshi Falls to the Land of Stars ”
An incompetent Galaxy Police officer, Mihoshi Kuramitsu, is sent to patrol Earth, where the wanted criminal Kagato is headed. Meanwhile, Tenchi and his extended family take a short vacation at a local hot springs.
Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiy? Densetsu Die Neue These Kaik?) second season
In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.
Tonight’s Episode: “The Battle of Doria Starzone”
Yang Wen-li takes the long way to defeat the coup d’etat, securing his supply lines and minimising the harm to his fellow Free Planets Alliancemen. Who is friend and who is foe, and who will surrender? Unfortunately the conspiraters are not so restrained.
Jujutsu Kaisen
Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.
Tonight’s Episodes: “Small Fry and Reverse Retribution” and “Idle Transfiguration”
Yoshino Junpei skips school to go to the movies and witnesses the classmates who bullied him getting their faces transfigured and dying. He chases after the culprit, Mahito, and asks to be taught how to control cursed energy. Yuji and ex-salaryman jujutsu sorcerer, Nanami Kento, investigate and encounter two cursed spirits.
Mahito teaches his ideology to Junpei: as a cursed spirit capable of changing the very shape of a person’s soul, he sees people as disposable. Junpei, happy at being told he can kill without feeling guilty about it, has a confrontation with his teacher, who had turned a blind eye to Junpei’s bullies. He is about to kill his teacher when Yuji interrupts. Nanami confronts Mahito in the sewers.
Tokyo Revengers
Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.
Tonight’s Episode: “Break up”
The mysterious enemy Kisaki, a former member of Moebius, is appointed as the new captain of the third division. Takemichi retaliates by attacking him, but first division captain Keisuke Baji beats him down for disrespecting Mikey’s decision. Shortly after he does so, Baji announces that he is quitting to join Valhalla.
Golden Kamuy
Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.
Tonight’s Episode: “To Live” season 3 (final)
Kiroranke gains the upper hand in his fight with Koito, but he is shot by Tanigaki. However, before Tanigaki can kill Kiroranke, Asirpa arrives and demands to know if he was responsible for her father’s death. Svetlana promises to tell her parents she is still alive and travels on to the Russian mainland. Sugimoto and Asirpa reaffirm their partnership to find the gold.
Summer Time Rendering
Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island.
Tonight’s Episode: “Everlasting Night”
The third Shide emerges with the mortally wounded Haine, reduced to a toddler form. He loathes Haine, now useless to his goal. Shinpei voices his disgust of Shide, who promptly slices Haine’s shadow open, revealing an entrance to the timeless world of Shadows.
