Here at JAFWA we continue the anime goodness, with our new regular program items, and a couple of preview items. So this week examine the samples of anime as yet unseen at JAFWA with the first episodes of “Ningen Fushin” and “High Card“, selected from the rather large amount of anime Japan produces.

It may be of interest to our members, but Luna Leederville cinemas is introducing Monday Double Features, which includes a couple of Mondays with anime.

The next fundraising for JAFWA at Cannington Bunnings sausage sizzle is scheduled for Saturday May 6^th, and we would appreciatea volunteer or 3 to help out.

Do It Yourself (Yofukashi no Uta)

Serufu Yua (pronounced “yourself”) is a laid back first year high-school student, very accident-prone and is known for having a perfect attendance record at the nurse’s office. She fails to get into Yuyu Girls’ Vocational High School for technology with her best friend Miku Suride, instead getting into the lower class Gatagata Girls’ High School. But there is a student club that may catch her attention.

This evening’s Episodes: “Does ‘DIY’ Mean Doing Stuff With Somebody?”

Serufu brings her classmate Takumi Hikage to the DIY Club. While Serufu and Rei work on a bench made out of skis, Takumi tries her hand at making a mosaic sign for the club. After both projects are finished, Takumi decides to officially join the DIY Club.

Bocchi the Rock

Extremely anxious and socially awkward Hitori Gotou longs to become a rock musician in spite of her struggles, whilst fulfilling her desires to one day make friends. She is even given a chance to do so after she is taken in by Nijika Ijichi to become a member of the newly formed Kessoku Band.

This evening’s Episode: “See You Tomorrow”

Bocchi gets a quick lesson on how many clubs charge bands for performing depending on the number of tickets they sell. In need of money to make up for their poor performance, the band decide to get a job at the same club they just performed, as Nijika’s older sister Seika is the manager there. Bocchi tries to make herself get a cold to avoid having to work and interact with people.

Spy x Family part 2

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “The Unwavering Path”

Loid and Fiona overcome all of the cheating tricks the Campbells throw at them and win the tournament. Afterwards, the pair cleverly switch and steal the targeted painting before the SSS’ arrival. By chance, they meet Yor, Anya and Bond at the park, when Fiona promptly challenge Yor to a tennis match, wanting to prove she is worthier than Yor.

retro item – Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki

Tenchi Masaki was a normal 17-year-old boy until the day he accidentally releases the space pirate, Ryoko, from a cave she was sealed in 700 years ago as the people thought she was a demon. In a series of events, four other alien girls show up at the Masaki household as Tenchi learns much of his heritage he never knew about and deal with five alien girls who each have some sort of romantic interest in him.

Tonight’s movie: “Hello, Ryo-Ohki! ”

Ryoko pulls an egg from the wreck of her ship and introduces it as her offspring. The egg hatches to reveal Ryo-Ohki, now in cabbit form. Ayeka discovers signs of Jurai present on Earth, and opens up to Tenchi.

preview – Apparently, Disillusioned Adventurers Will Save the World (Ningen Fushin no Boukensha-tachi ga Sekai o Sukuu You Desu)

Veteran adventurer Nick’s life is falling apart. Despite all the knowledge and expertise he’s devoted to his adventuring party, his respected leader kicked him out, his girlfriend dumped him, and his teammates shamelessly accused him of embezzlement. Tired, heartbroken, and looking for a drink, Nick chances upon a few kindred spirits who are jaded as he is. Together, these disillusioned adventurers form an unstoppable team out to save their bleak, depressing world.

This evening’s Episode: “Disillusioned Adventurers”

In Labyrinth City adventurer Nick is abruptly kicked from his team by his mentor Argus, followed by his girlfriend Claudine dumping him. Disillusioned Nick develops an otaku lifestyle around teen idol Agate. To fund this lifestyle Nick returns to adventuring but requires a new team. By chance at an inn he shares a table with sorceress Tiana, ex-priest Zem and Dragon-girl Curran, all disillusioned over something.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) second season

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episode: “Bloodshed in Space”

The traitor nobles make plans to defeat Reinhard von Lohengramm, not realising he and his forces are counting on their disunity. Blood will be shed, and alliances shaken. The good die young.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Boredom”

Nobara and Megumi meet the Kyoto Jujutsu Tech students they will be competing against in the exchange event: second-year Mai Zenin, who is Maki’s twin sister, and third-year Aoi Todo. They have probably exorcised the school spirit of camraderie, as violence, truth and corruption will be revealed. But worse is waiting in the future.

preview – High Card

After discovering that his orphanage was on the brink of closing due to financial stress, Finn, who was living freely on the streets, set out for a casino with the aim of making a fortune. However, nothing could have prepared Finn for the nightmare that was awaiting him. The world order can be controlled by a set of 52 X-Playing cards with the power to bestow different superhuman powers and abilities to the ones that possess them.

This evening’s Episode: “One Shot”

A girl named Iris infiltrates a castle, steals a suitcase from the vault, and escapes with a magic power that allows her to summon several explosives. However, an unseen woman summons a gust of wind that breaks open the case and scatters its contents, a special deck of playing cards, far and wide. One month later, a pickpocket named Finn steals items from multiple people. One month later a pickpocket named Finn tries to raise funds quickly, only to find that the pawn shop owner won’t fence his stolen goods, except for a special 2 of Spades card that Finn refuses to part with. So Finn hitches a ride to Bell End and hits a casino, winning at the poker table, until a card sharp named Lucky Lunchman cleans him out of his winnings.

Tokyo Revengers

Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang. He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his younger boss treats him like an idiot. At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days. To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang.

Tonight’s Episode: “Revenge”

Following Hinata’s funeral, Naoto and Takemichi deduce that Akkun was most likely blackmailed into killing Hinata, as his wife and children have gone missing. They then discover that Draken is on death row for murder. They visit Draken in prison, where he confesses that his biggest regret in life is not killing Kisaki when he had the chance.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Sin and Impurity” season 3

Kiroranke and Sugimoto’s groups are now near each other on the Strait of Tartary ice floe, and a number of incidents happen in quick succession. The best is that Shiraishi is relieved to find Sugimoto still alive, but is surprised to learn from him that Ogata shot Sugimoto and Wilk (Nopperabo).
