Most importantly! JAFWA will return to our regular hours in October. Come along at 5PM!

The month of October is upon us all too soon at JAFWA. And the JAFWA program is going through changes!
Not only will we be screening the final two episodes of the 3^rd season of “Log Horizon”, we have four new regular series to start screening this week. We have analysed the survey results from the last time and guide us towards the best possible program, with further series to add later this month. Be prepared for a pleasant surprise when you come to JAFWA this week.

Don’t forget that we go back to out 5:15PM start.

Japanese Calendars

It is that time of year again – when Japanese calendars for 2023 are available order. If I (the JAFWA MC) get enough interest, I will probably order from here. It is early yet, so not all of the calendars have been listed so far. The link I gave pointed to only Anime calendars, but the left menu shows other categories if you are interested.
This site may be slightly more up-to-date in titles being listed.

The Australian dollar is not buying much these days, but probably more than last year, but if we bundle our orders together, we should be able to get cheaper shipping rates. We have probably missed the pre-order period.

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Dates of Interest

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

• October 2022 onwards — JAFWA’s returns to normal hours, where we start (~5:15PM) and finish (~10:45PM), an hour later than Winter.
• October 8^th 2022, 9AM to 12 Midday — Nexus Toy Fair at Leisurelife Centre, 34 Kent St, East Vic Park.
• October 15^th and 29^th 2022, 10AM to 4PM — Kai-con’s Artist Market. Free entry to Citiplace Community Centre just outside Perth Train station.
• Saturday November 5^th 2022, 9AM to 4PM — JAFWA fund raising Bunnings sausage sizzle at Cannignton Bunnings. Volunteers requested.
• November 5^th and 6^th 2022, 9AM to 5PM — Anime in the Valley. Located at the Swan Settlers Market in Herne Hill. Free entry.
• November 19^th to 20^th 2022, 10AM to 6PM — [ KaiCon ] Kaiga Anime Convention 2022 at Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.
• Sunday November 27^th 2022 — Collectors Zone Toy and Hobby Fair at ECU Sports Fitness Centre, Joondalup.
• Saturday December 10^th 2022, 5:15PM to 10:30PM — JAFWA’s final screening of the year. Will be a non-regular program, so we are taking suggestions for what one-off items you want to be screened that night.
• Saturday January 14^th 2023 — as the Solstice festivities wane, JAFWA returns for a new year!

Log Horizon series III – Destruction of the Round Table

It’s been a year since Shiroe and his friends were trapped in Akiba due to the Catastrophe. Their forging of the Round Table has brought order and prosperity to its people. But fracturing political alliances and the constant menace of the Genius monsters threaten to destabilize all they’ve fought for and built.

This evening’s Episodes: “Despair Genius” and “Song of the Nightingales” finale

Akatsuki and Minori reunite with their friends from both Log Horizon and the Crescent Moon Alliance. Having learned from Lelia and Litka that Ereinus is waiting on the Round Table’s Assembly Hall, they form a raid party. Together, the young players fight their way to the Hall where they confront Ereinus, having the upper hand until the enemy uses his special ability to remove the players’ memories from those, they admire most to break their spirit. As Ereinus proceeds to wipe out the party, Akatsuki and the Mofur sisters who were unaffected by the enemy’s power fight back while inspiring the others to recompose. Can they find its weak point?

Spy x Family

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “The Great Dodgeball Plan”

Both Anya and Damian hear a rumor about a Stella Star being given to the most valuable player in the upcoming dodgeball tournament. On the day of the tournament, Anya and Damian’s class face against the athletically gifted Bill Watkins, who eliminates everyone except for them. Can Anya and Damian co-operate and save the day?

Shadow’s House season 2

In a Western-style mansion on a cliff lives the aristocratic, faceless Shadow family. They live together with lifelike doll attendants who serve as their faces. After finishing their “debut,” Kate, Emilico and three other pairs who started with them begin a new life as adults. With the mystery of the “Shadows House” still unsolved, a new incident occurs in the children’s wing. Kate and Emilico, whom the Star Bearers suspect of being malcontents, investigate a mysterious robed Shadow who may be the culprit.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Those Newly Come of Age ”

During a nightly patrol, Barbie and her master, Barbara, are attacked by scorches and while fending them off, a mysterious tall robed figure passes them by. In the morning, Maryrose explains to the newly debuted Shadow Masters and their dolls about the children’s wing. The Dolls and their Masters are split up with Suzie attending to the dolls in the parlor with Susanna working with the Shadow Masters to teach them about their soot powers. Meanwhile, Kate hopes to get close to John by passing a letter, arousing the suspicions of Susanna.

Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu Die Neue These Kaikou) season 2

In humanity’s distant future, two interstellar states – the monarchic Galactic Empire and the democratic Free Planets Alliance – are embroiled in a never-ending war. The story focuses on the exploits of rivals Reinhard von Lohengramm and Yang Wen-li as they rise to power and fame in the Galactic Empire and the Free Planets Alliance respectively.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Battle of Amlitzer Starzone ”

The FPA’s invasion of the Galactic Empire has gone poorly. Now the various fleets are trapped in the Amritzer star system, hiding in mined out asteroids, while the Galactic Empire attacks with overwhelming force. Escape seems unlikely.

Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun season 2

An orphan girl named Riko who lives in the town of Ousu on an island in the sea of Beoluska. The city surrounds a strange, giant hole going deep into the earth, which is commonly called the Abyss. The Abyss harbours artefacts and remnants of a civilisation long gone, and is therefore the popular hunting spot for so-called Cave Raiders, who undertake arduous and dangerous descends into the mist-filled pit to recover whatever relics they can find. However, the deeper one goes into the Abyss, the more one is afflicted by a progressively fatal malady called the Curse of the Abyss; few who have descended into the lower regions have returned to tell of their experiences.

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Compass Pointed to the Darkness ”

In the apparent distant past, a young girl named Vueko escapes her abusive guardian and joins an expedition of pilgrims called the Ganja led by Wazukyan and Belaf to search for the mythical Golden City at the bottom of the Abyss. Using a special compass Vueko possesses, the Ganja are able to find the island the Abyss is located on despite all but one of their ships being lost in a storm. In the present, Riko, Reg, and Nanachi activate the transport pod with Riko’s newly acquired White Whistle and it transports them down through the Sea of Corpses, an underground ocean filled with the bones and corpses of deceased wildlife.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari) season 2

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a fantasy world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers.

Tonight’s Episode: “Infinite Labyrinth”

After following Kyo to another world, Naofumi, Rishia, and a de-aged Raphtalia wake up in a cell, discovering that all their stats have gone down back to Lv. 1. After leaving the unlocked prison, they find themselves on an eerie island with no way out, with Naofumi unable to track Filo’s location. They join forces witjh Kizuna Kazayama, who introduces herself as one of the four Cardinal Heroes of her world, the Hunting Hero, summoned from Japan just like Naofumi. She tells them that she’s been trapped in the “Infinite Labyrinth” for years, looking for a way out.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Negative human emotions – regret, bitterness, shame – are the source of all curses that infest the world and hide in everyday life, leading to death in the worst cases. Yuji Itadori, a particularly strong young man, attempts to save a friend from a curse, only to wind up consuming the special grade curse of Ryoumen Sukuna’s finger. Only a curse can eliminate another curse, and Yuji’s career as a cursed person who must exorcise curses has now begin.

Tonight’s Episode: “Ryomen Sukuna”

Yuji Itadori is a high school student with incredible athleticism and sports talent. Yuji’s grandfather tells him to use his strength to help others just before his death. Megumi Fushiguro, a student from Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical College, is tasked with searching for a “Cursed Object”, a finger of Ryomen Sukuna, a powerful supernatural monster known as a “Curse”. Megumi tracks Yuji down, having sensed the finger’s energy from him.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “On the Night of the New Moon” season 2

Sugimoto’s and Hijikata’s groups secretly tunnel into Abashiri Prison and link up with Chief Kadokura, an associate of Hijikata’s. On a moonless night, they launch the escape plan.

SummerTime Rendering

Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island.

Tonight’s Episode: “Into the Darkness”

Shinpei announces they need to head back to the old clinic. A mainland police officer named Miura approaches Mio and her friend Tokiko to ask about Shiori’s family. At the clinic Sou finds old bottles of Mercuric Chloride, a toxic medicine. He also discovers a wooden statue of Ebisu, God of Fishermen, but as this statue is female Shinpei realises it actually depicts Ebisu when he was born as a leech like creature believed to be both male and female.
