Our first screening in the month of August, know that in Japanese the eighth month is called hachigatsu. Though historically (and sometimes poetically) it was known as Hazuki (“Month of Leaves”). In old Japanese, the month was called Haochizuki (“Month of Falling Leaves”).

We bow our heads in the remembrance of the anniversary of the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The celebration of International Patlabor Day is scheduled for August 10th.
Though some of us may be looking forward to O-bon festivities.

But otherwise the month of August starts here at JAFWA! To celebrate the start of the month, we start a new regular series, the sequel to the popular “Rising of the Shield Hero”. And we will have a surprise Preview item. Come and warm your soul with the cultural goodness that is anime.

Log Horizon series III – Destruction of the Round Table

It’s been a year since Shiroe and his friends were trapped in Akiba due to the Catastrophe. Their forging of the Round Table has brought order and prosperity to its people. But fracturing political alliances and the constant menace of the Genius monsters threaten to destabilize all they’ve fought for and built.

This evening’s Episode: “Blessings”

In the day of the election, after Ein makes his final speech, Akiba’s main gate is reactivated and thousands of citizens of Susukino emerge from them to participate in the voting. During Reyneshia’s speech, she reveals that not only she, but Regan and Kinjou will be part of the New Round Table representing the People of the Land should their side wins.

Spy x Family

In order to ensure World Peace, a master spy who has to “build a family” to execute a mission, not realising that the girl he adopts as his daughter is a telepath, and the woman he agrees to be in a marriage with is a skilled assassin.

This evening’s Episode: “The Prestigious School’s Interview”

As the Forgers arrive at Eden Academy for the interview, they impress Henry Henderson, one of the Housemasters, as they overcome multiple screening efforts, including stopping an accidental stampede from the school’s farm animals. During the interview with the Housemasters, they give satisfactory answers, but Murdoch Swan, a divorcé, deliberately tries to taunt and fail them.

Deaimon

Nagomu is a man who left his home in Kyoto and his family’s confectionery shop when he became a musician. Upon hearing that his father has been hospitalized though, he comes back home to take over the family business. However, while he was gone, a young girl named Itsuka started working at the shop. The whereabouts of Itsuka’s parents is unknown, and she has no other relatives, and Nagomu finds himself as foster parent for Itsuka. Itsuka, on the other hand, dislikes Nagomu for abandoning the family to become a musician. She proclaims that it will be her who will take over the shop one day instead of Nagomu.

Tonight’s Episode: “Long-Awaited Warmth of Spring”

With Christmas approaching Nagomu asks to spend Itsuka’s birthday with her, but is rejected. Shinri asks to visit Itsuka on Christmas Eve. Itsuka is unsure as her mother has precedent for breaking promises at the last minute. Nagomu breaks the shop’s wooden Yuzu juicer. Nagomu remembers that he was born on the 15th of December but came home from hospital on the 22nd, the winter solstice, so his grandpa bought the juicer as Yuzu is associated with that time of year.

Steins; Gate

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that an international organization is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab members.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Being Meltdown ”

Kurisu reveals to Rintaro that she recalls her stabbing from dreams, as well as Rintaro’s various attempts at saving Mayuri. When Kurisu tells Rintaro that he should save Mayuri over her, he cannot accept it and runs back to the lab. As Rintaro attempts to time leap again, Kurisu stops him, worried that seeing Mayuri die over and over will destroy him.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 2

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Transformation ” Entertainment District arc

Nezuko fights Daki, and despite taking major injuries, she regenerates them almost instantly, causing the shocked Daki to proclaim that Nezuko’s regenerative ability is stronger than her own. Nezuko brutally attacks Daki, completely overwhelming her, and throws her into an inhabited building. While Daki heals, Nezuko notices that one of the civilians is bleeding.

Rising of the Shield Hero (Fumetsu no Anata e) season 2

Naofumi Iwatani was summoned into a fantasy world along with three other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi happened to receive the Legendary Shield, the sole defensive equipment, while the others received weapons capable of attacking. Unlike the other heroes who are fully supported by the kingdom and gain several strong allies each, Naofumi’s luck turns to the worse, shunned by everyone from the King to peasants, Naofumi is forced to train as a hero alone while working to make ends meet acquiring only the most pitiful of followers.

Tonight’s Episode: “A New Roar”

Naofumi continues to watch over Seyaette, as well as oversee Rishia’s training, who struggles to keep up due to her low base stats. They are suddenly attacked by bat familiars, and while Raphtalia and Filo easily dispose of them, Naofumi becomes perturbed when the countdown for the Waves stops.

Golden Kamuy

Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. He decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido’s harsh northern wilderness. Though other parties are also hunting for the gold.

Tonight’s Episode: “Inside the Belly” season 2

The disguised Suzukawa attempts to bribe the 7th for Shiraishi’s freedom, but he is killed by Second Lt. Koito Otonoshi, who foils the plot on Tsurumi’s behalf. Sugimoto flees with Asirpa, Ogata, and Shiraishi on an experimental hydrogen airship, though they are pursued by Koito.

Summer Time Rendering

Upon hearing of Ushio’s death, Shinpei returns to his hometown of Wakayama City on Hitogashima and reunites with his childhood friend’s family. The funeral goes smoothly, but under the surface something strange is brewing on the island.

Tonight’s Episode: “Maelstrom”

Shadow-Mio disappears and the woman introduces herself as Nagumo Ryuunosuke who is there to save him. She reveals how to tell Shadows apart from humans; since their true form is the shadow flat on the ground and not the fake body above it. Shinpei rushes to the shrine and finds everyone killed by a Giant-Shadow. Giant-Shadow identifies Shinpei’s eye as the eye of their Mother, which controls time.

Attack On Titan (Shingeki ni Kyojin) season 4 part B

Young Eldian Warrior candidates Gabi Braun and Falco Grice, seeking to inherit Reiner’s Armored Titan four years after the failed mission to claim the Founding Titan. As Marley’s dominance over competing nations begins to weaken due to the development of anti-titan weaponry, they plan to invade Paradis to develop their military using the resources on the island and also recover the Founding Titan. However, Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps have reached the Marley shoreline.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Sunset”

As the Wall Titans walk off into the sunset, the people in Trost District argue about the cost in lives and devastation of Eren’s strategy caused by the Rumbling. Hitch finds a weakened Annie who has been freed from her crystal and helps her escape from the Military Police. Annie tells Hitch that she no longer wants to fight and wishes to reunite with her adoptive father in Marley.
