Screening on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, April 23^rd 2022

Delayed a couple of years due to a combination of weather and CoViD, JAFWA is once again going to try and do and extra long “Marathon” session of anime this week. We are slightly out of practice, so only the afternoon session will be non-regular program stuff. Thanks to everyone who provided suggestions. There will be a pizza run.
If this proves popular, we can try a better, more varied marathon session later.

We shall also be screening a single preview episode. This one is actually written by a former serving police office.
Regretably, there won’t be room for “Golden Kamuy” this week.
And two of our regular series will be ending this week.

Still looking for a couple of volunteers to help out at our next Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fundraiser, to be held Saturday May 7^th at Cannington Bunnings.

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contact Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.
– We are now required by City of South Perth to check our attendees’ Vaccine status.

Non Non Biyori

In the countryside small town village of Asahigaoka, a place lacking many of the conveniences that people from the city are accustomed to. The nearest stores are a few miles away and one of the local schools consists of only five students, each of whom is in a different grade of elementary or middle school. Hotaru Ichijo, a fifth grader from Tokyo, transfers into Asahigaoka Branch School and has to adjust to countryside life with her new friends. A year has passed

This afternoon’s Movie: “Vacation ”

Summer vacation is drawing to an end. When Suguru wins a free trip to Okinawa, all of the five students of Asahigaoka branch school are excited to end their vacation with a bang. Along with Hikage, Konomi, and their teacher and the candy store owner, everyone goes to Okinawa for a fun three-day trip. There, Natsumi makes friends with Aoi, the girl who helps out at the hotel they stay in.

Bubblegum Crash

In the near future, Tokyo was left flattened as a result from a great earthquake. A new city, MegaTokyo, was then recreated due in no small part from the aid of a multi-million dollar company, Genom Corp. Genom created and mass-produced biomechanical creatures called Boomers to aid in the restoration of MegaTokyo. When the Boomers began to run out of control, the AD Police at first tried to stop them, but they proved to be far more difficult to deal with than was first imagined. Under the ever looming Boomer threat, a group of four girls from varying degrees of society banded together. Calling themselves The Knight Sabers, they were the only ones with enough firepower and resourcefullness to defend the fledgling MegaTokyo from Genom and its berserk Boomers.

This afternoon’s Episode: “Illegal Army ”

The Knight Sabers re-unite after a period of absence to handle the emergence of a mysterious group of former soldiers with mecha suits.

Summer Days with Coo

A small, lone kappa miraculously survives over 200 years into modern day Tokyo, Japan when he is found by young Kouichi. “Coo” who is secretly adopted by the whole family, faces a tragic past and the present’s challenge of living in a dramatically changed environment, searches with his new human friend for places not invaded by people hoping to find any remaining of his kind. When this intelligent “water spirit” draws the popular attention of the whole city upon being discovered and then confronted with his past, it forces him to take action and make an ultimate decision, in order to preserve his kind, inner peace and well being in today’s harsh world.

This evening’s Episode: “We Bravely Dove In ” season 2

Hotaru gets a letter from her friend in Tokyo while Hikage shows Renge her own pictures of Tokyo Tower before having to play dolls with her. Later, Hotaru ends up losing her bag on the bus, so she, Renge, and Hikage make their way over to the bus depot to look for it, coming across various sights along the way. Afterwards, Hotaru manages to work up the courage to dive into the river for a picture to send to her friends in Tokyo.

Uramichi-Oniisan

31-year-old Uramichi Omota has two sides to his personality. He appears as the young man in charge of physical exercises on the educational program “Maman to Together.” Although he has a fresh and upbeat demeanour on the show, he is actually a bit emotionally unstable, he can’t help but reveal his jaded, worn-out personality.

This evening’s Episode: “Servility and Conscience”

No matter the ups and downs he is feeling, Uramichi-san tries to get through to the kids. But the answers that Uramichi can so easily provide contain complex and dark overtones. Is the message he sends to kids OK? Usao-kun has money problems, and the social pressure on behavior takes its toll. The Father’s Day special brings up painful memories.

Restaurant to Another World (Isekai Shokudou) season 2

The Western Restaurant Nekoya is a restaurant situated in a mundane corner of an undisclosed Tokyo shopping district which offers a lot of Japanese versions of Western dishes. It opens during usual business hours but is closed during holidays and weekends. But secretly it is also open on Saturdays, as on this particular day it creates doorways to another world inhabited by elves, dragons, animal men and other fantastic creatures, who enter the restaurant and partake of its exotic food, with many of them becoming regular patrons. But while Nekoya mainly offers food, it is also a place where relationships are forged, inspirations made, and salvation for the needy is provided.

This evening’s Episodes: “Pork Loin Cutlet / Buffet ” finale

The Nekoya staff are preparing for a celebration for Adelheid and Shareef’s royal wedding when Yomi, a heroine of the Other World and the Master’s grandmother, drops by to visit for the first time since her husband’s death. Meeting her old friend Artorius, the day’s first customer, the two start catching up, with Yomi reminiscing how she encountered Daiki and became his wife and co-owner of the restaurant. After enjoying a meal of pork loin cutlet, she acknowledges her grandson’s culinary skill and entrusts him with the magical door’s master key. Later on, the guests from the Other World assemble for the after-wedding party.

Fena: Pirate Princess (Kaizoku Oujo)

An orphan girl, Fena Houtman, has been raised on an Island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Vice Versa ”

Abel breaks down sobbing as he remembers his past with Helena, how she had gotten pregnant with the king’s daughter, then ran away and eloped with the king’s butler Franz while carrying the king’s daughter, and how she was sentenced to death for the act. Meanwhile in the present, Fena begins humming an old tune and Yukimaru remembers the lyrics of her “secret song”. Fena realizes the lyrics have matched closely with her travels thus far, but in reverse.

Steins; Gate

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that an international organization is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab members.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Dogma in Event Horizon ”

Rintaro discovers that a CRT television in the electronics shop below the lab has been serving as the “lifter” from the PhoneWave, as the D-Mails can only be sent when it is turned on. Kurisu then theorizes that it might be possible to send frontal lobe memories back in time through the PhoneWave, allowing the consciousness of a person to “time leap” into the past.

Lupin III part 6

The World’s greatest gentleman thief Lupin III, and cohorts, contending with detective Sherlock Holmes when Lupin becomes the top suspect in the murder of the former’s longtime partner, Dr. Watson. Lupin is also after a treasure hidden by The Raven, a mysterious organisation that manipulates the British government from the shadows

Tonight’s Episodes: “The Truth and The Raven ”

Alex Jenkinson, a landshark who used aggressive tactics to acquire local property, is shot dead by someone he suspects is a Raven assassin. The next morning, local “Baker Street Irregulars” arrive and pub owner Derrick Barnes confirms Jenkinson’s movements. Lupin’s gang suspect the assassin also killed Lord Falkner, who was buying up local land. Holmes tells Lestrade and Zenigata that anyone interested in that land has died, and he offers a million pounds reward for the half of Falkner’s poster held by Lupin.

Female police officer Mai Kawai had enough of a career she wasn’t even that into and was about to hand in her registration, when the unthinkable happened — she met the new, female director of her station. And after spending a little time with this gorgeous role model, Kawai realizes that maybe she isn’t quite done being an officer after all

Tonight’s Episode: “Unbox & Punching Bag”

Kawai, a fresh graduate from police academy, has had enough of the bad rap she has been getting as a member of the police force. However, before she could submit her letter of resignation, a new instructor gets assigned to her. Chief Fuji used to be a detective but got transferred for allegedly harassing one of her juniors. The pair heads off for patrol and Kawai soon witnesses Fuji’s coping mechanisms and skill as a detective by capturing a burglar suspect on the first day.

Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba) – season 2

Tanjiro Kamado is a kindhearted and intelligent boy who lives with his family, making money by selling charcoal. Everything changes when his family is attacked and slaughtered by demons (oni). Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko are the sole survivors of the incident. Nezuko has now become a demon, but still surprisingly shows signs of human emotion and thought. Tanjiro becomes a demon slayer to help his sister turn human again and to prevent the same tragedy that happened to him and his sister, from happening to others.

Tonight’s Episode: “Deep Sleep ” Mugen Train arc

Tanjiro and his friends Rengoku on the Mugen Train. When a train supervisor punches holes in their tickets, all Demon Slayers fall into a deep sleep. Enmu, Lower One of the Twelve Kizuki, is responsible. He used his Blood Demon Art to make them all fall into a deep dream. In his dream, Tanjiro reunites with his deceased family, and believes his whole experience as a Demon Slayer was a bad dream.

Cells at Work! Code Black (Hataraku Saibou Burakku)

A newbie Red Blood Cell is one of 37 trillion working to keep this body running. But something’s wrong. Stress hormones keep yelling at him to go faster. The blood vessels are crusted over with cholesterol. Ulcers, fatty liver, trouble (ahem) downstairs… It’s hard for a cell to keep working when every day is a CODE BLACK.

This evening’s Episodes: “Overwork, Hair Loss, and Delirium” and “Kidneys, Kidney Stones, and Tears”

Neutrophils took heavy casualties during the Gonococci’s infection, so Killer T Cells are overworked. AA2153 delivers oxygen to Hair Matrix cells and bumps into U-1196 exercising despite her injuries. While the two reminisce about the battle between the Neutrophils and the bacteria and she thanks him for saving her life by distracting the Gonococci, she gets berated by passing Killer T Cells who later go haywire and attack the Hair cells after mistaking them for cancer cells.
AA2153 goes to the kidneys to be bathed and finds that the Glomeruli are also overworked and stressed, but their leader, Gran, refuses to let them rest or complain, saying the kidneys are silent organs. The body gets a one-centimeter kidney stone, tearing the ureter and causing several blood cells to get lost in the urine.

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re: Life in a Different World from Zero) season 2 part B

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favor, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

This evening’s Episodes: “Offbeat Steps Under the Moonlight” finale

With a contract now in place, Subaru and Beatrice work with Emilia to use their combined powers to trap the Great Rabbit. Beatrice seals the mabeasts in another dimension using Al Shamac, saving the Sanctuary. Beatrice and Roswaal then visit the grave of Echidna, where he reveals he is in fact the original Roswaal, having figured out how to use soul transcription into each of his ancestors.
