Screening on the evening of Saturday, January 29^th 2022

JAFWA‘ has reached the end of the first month of 2022. You know what that means – it is both our Member’s Prize Draw, and the night we have our survey where we receive feedback from our dear JAFWAites as to what you appreciate in our program, bothe regular items and recent preview items.

This week we say farewell to a couple of regular series, meaning that in February we will be starting to new regular series. To help take the sting off the farewell, just before the Dinner Break we will have a preview episode.

In addition to our regular program. We also screen various things during the Dinner Break. Like a couple of weeks when we screened various anime music videos, one of our attendees asked about this strange “Bubblegum Crisis” anime that came with its own music.
The scary thing is that he could not have been borns when BGC was made. Screening BGC was a staple of early JAFWA. To have someone not recoginise this cyberpunk anime classic, makes me feel old.
Does any one else want JAFWA to screen this anime gem once more? Maybe we could sneak an episode into the Dinner Break?

Excitement is justified over the new Mamoru Hosoda anime “Belle“, appearing at the cinemas this week.

Cash for Containers

As people may have noticed, JAFWA collects the recyclable containers (cans and bottles) that are disposed of by our attendees. It helps in a small way.

Covid-19 Safety Precautions

We continue taking precautions to limit the possible future waves of CoVid-19, and we ask that you co-operate and even help where possible with our efforts to keep you safe – some social distancing, extra cleaning with antiseptic, library under limited access, etc. Also, we must ask that anyone unfortunate enough to be infected to not attend JAFWA until they are contagion free.
– Help is always welcome during set-up and pack-up due to the extra duties imposed by COVID-19 precautions.
– Please arrive early to confirm personal details due to COVID 19 regulations. There will be Contract Tracing, either by the SafeWA app on your keitai (mobile phones), or by signing in at the contact tracing sheet near the entry.

Barring a resurgence of COVID-19 pestilence, these fannish events of interest are scheduled to happen:

Fruits Basket – final season

After a family tragedy turns her life upside down, plucky high schooler Tohru Honda takes matters into her own hands and moves out into a tent. Unfortunately for her, she pitches her new home on private land belonging to the mysterious Sohma clan, and it isn’t long before the owners discover her secret. But, as Tohru quickly finds out when the family offers to take her in, the Sohmas have a secret of their own–when stressed or grasped by the opposite sex, they turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

This evening’s Episode: “See You Again Soon ” season 3 (finale)

Tohru graduates from high school and will move with Kyo to another city. Her friends and the rest of the Soma family prepare a farewell party for them, as they also begin to move on with their lives, each following their own path.

Shadows House (Shadoo Hausu)

In a grandiose and dark mansion, the denizens of the Shadow House live, attended by their Living Doll partners who endlessly clean the soot their masters emit. Emilico, a young and cheerful Living Doll, is delighted to start serving her mistress Kate. As the two grow closer and are slowly exposed to various events within the House, they start to discover a number of dark secrets.

Tonight’s Episodes: “For the Sake of the Shadows Family” (finale)

Edward reveals he plans to expose Kate as a malcontent and enemy of Shadow House, and thus be promoted to the third floor of Grandfather’s wing. Disguised as a faceless-doll, John gets help from the small Morph but is discovered by Edward’s two friends. Kate and Emiliko escape from Edward with the help of the small Morph, then meet with John but are caught by Edward and his friends on top of a tower.

In the distant future, humans live shoulder-to-shoulder, cramped in the “Labyrinth,” an underground world deep below the surface. The place is known for extreme high temperatures, but also for lodes of gold, silver, and other riches. In one of the colonies named Pin-in, a curious nine-year-old girl named Memempu and her father Gagumber board a two-person work robot and mine for ore. One day, Memempu begs her father to set out as Markers — those who chart the innards of the Labyrinth as a spelunker — to search for her mother who left their home. A Marker is the most dangerous, but also the most lucrative, job. Gagumber decides he cannot hold back the ever-curious Memempu from going off on her own countless times, and finally gives in. The two embark on a journey together in the work robot.

Tonight’s Episode: “FATHERS&DAUGHTERS”

Gagumber chases his daughter Memempu around town in the underground colony of Pinyin and falls for one of her traps in order to prove her worthiness to become a Marker, but Memempu gets trapped herself leading to a shouting match between them. Memempu returns home and receives a mysterious package from the legendary Marker Urorop and analyzes the pendant inside it. Afterwards, kaijus invade Pinyin.

Fena: Pirate Princess (Kaizoku Oujo)

An orphan girl, Fena Houtman, has been raised on an Island where there is no hope of becoming anything more than chattel, to be used and discarded by soldiers of the British Empire. But Fena is more than just another powerless orphan. When her mysterious past comes knocking, Fena will break the chains of her oppressors.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Bar-Baral ”

A high-ranking Royal Navy officer named Abel enlists the help of Grace O’Malley to look for Fena. Meanwhile, Fena and her crew’s submersible ship (Bonito II) docks at the free island of Bar-Baral so that they can get food and supplies for their journey. Fena and the warrior twins Kaede and Enju get some new clothes and find a lead on another separate clear stone

Steins; Gate

Rintaro Okabe is a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” who believes that an international organization is conspiring to reshape the world according to its own interests. He and his friend Itaru Hashida inadvertently create a gadget able to send messages to the past. The discovery and experimentation of this instrument become the catalyst of fundamental alterations to the present. Oblivious of the consequences of their actions, Rintaro and his friends end up creating modifications of grievous proportions. He must then try to find a way to return as close as possible to the original timeline in order to save his precious lab members.

Tonight’s Episodes: “Parallel World Paranoia ”

Rintaro agrees to let Kurisu examine their PhoneWave on the condition that she becomes one of his fellow lab members. Performing another experiment with the PhoneWave, which causes a burst of electricity when Mayuri opens it, Rintaro succeeds in sending another e-mail to the past. This leads Rintaro to deduce that their PhoneWave is actually a time machine capable of sending text messages to the past.

Lupin III part 6

The World’s geatest gentleman thief Lupin III, and cohorts, contending with detective Sherlock Holmes when Lupin becomes the top suspect in the murder of the former’s longtime partner, Dr. Watson. Lupin is also after a treasure hidden by The Raven, a mysterious organization that manipulates the British government from the shadows

Tonight’s Episodes: “Adventure Along the (Bogus) Transcontinental Railroad ”

In England, Lord Marquess hosts a party for railway enthusiasts on his vast estate which includes a replica railroad. Zenigata convinces NYPD’s Inspector Queen that Lupin will be there to steal a valuable historic railway ticket so he attends the party. Queen’s nephews, Manfred Lee and Frederic Dannay, would-be detectives who are visiting from the United States, follow Fujko onto the Lord Marquess estate.

To Your Eternity (Fumetsu no Anata e) season 2

An omnipotent narrator casts an orb of light to the Earth, watching as this entity copies the shape of a rock and then, many years later, mimics the moss on a rock. When a wolf dies beside the moss, it evolves, taking on the creature’s shape and gaining movement for the first time. As the wolf, the orb observes the dead wolf’s owner, a young man who lives alone on a frozen tundra. The time the orb spends with the boy leaves a mark on the entity as it observes, mimics, and bonds with the boy and then the other creatures it eventually comes across—all while transcending death and living for time immemorial.

Tonight’s Episode: “A Large Vessel”

Hayase escorts March, Parona, and the transforming wolf-boy (who March named Fushi) on a long ride to Yanome. Hayase lets them eat at various food stands, but soon slips them each sleeping drugs. When they wake up, Fushi is attacked by desperate prisoners who soon find that the boy is immortal, and Fushi learns a new phrase, “it hurts.”

Vivy – Fluorite Eyes Song

A songstress AI named Vivy is given the mission of making people happy with her songs, and works to one day take the main stage of the amusement park where she works. However, she encounters another AI named Matsumoto who claims to have been sent from 100 years in the future in order to prevent a destructive war between humans and AIs, starting Vivy’s 100-year journey to save the world.

This evening’s Episode: “World’s End Modulation – April 11, 2161 ”

As AIs all over the world go berserk after having Vivy’s song uploaded into them, Vivy herself meets up with Matsumoto, who has no idea what is happening either. They decide to confront Osamu and end up saving him from being killed by AIs as he is about to send this timeline’s Matsumoto back in time.

Talentless Nana (Munou na Nana)

An academy on an island in unnavigable waters. There, students trained tirelessly to fight back against the enemies of humanity. Nana, a student newly transferred there, also sets out with the intention of eradicating all enemies of humankind.

This evening’s Episodes: “The Invisible Blade part 2”

Kyouya reveals that the victim was Ryuuji Ishii, someone Nana did not kill. When asked where he was, Moguo states that he was giving his henchmen a pep talk. The henchmen then reveal their talents. Later, Ryuuji’s girlfriend, Fuuko Sorano, demonstrates her talent on Kyouya outside. Shortly thereafter, the homeroom teacher arrives to announce that the higher-ups are on the phone thanks to Kyouya .

Re: Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Re: Life in a Different World from Zero) season 2 part B

Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favor, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.

This evening’s Episodes: “A Journey Through Memories”

Accompanied by Echidna, Emilia is surrounded with dreamlike memories of her childhood. She is immediately presented with scenes of the Princess Room, her childhood home in the forest, as well as her aunt, Mother Fortuna, who is raising her in her parents’ absence. Young Emilia follows a lesser spirit into the nearby village to observe Mother Fortuna, who speaks with Petelgeuse and other witch cultists as they deliver donations of books and clothing.
